This song isn't about giving up or suicide. It is about being given the space by others and allowed to accept and deal with your pain. Which is something necessary at times before confiding with others.
It surely might be about that also. Personally I think it has several interpretations, and some of them might be "right", some of them might be "wrong". Very often art doesn't have a final answer. It's, as they say, in the eye of the beholder. But no matter what it's about, and you feel it's about, it's a great, GREAT song! 🤘⚡❤️
@@FranksReactions Drummer Pau: "Choke is about being so overwhelmed by your feelings that you start to drown on them and choke on them and we really wanted the song to reflect that hopelessness you sometimes feel and just offer it to everyone as a safe place to feel those feelings and just like a place of comfort for them". Hope this clears up what you believe it to be about Frank. Of course everyone has their own interpretation but this is from Paulina, one of the writers of the song. Cheers. This is not dark and sad.
TWA(The Warning Army)has given you excellent comments about this song. We all interpret songs that stir our memories. Whatever you had experienced, some times you just need the time to let everything wash over you, and dust yourself off and get on with life.
True! I'm reading through the comments now and I might have interpreted it darker than it is. I've re-read the lyrics and listened to the song several times after, and I can fully agree with what many have written in their comments. But that is yet another thing that's great with music. It's open to interpretation based on your own experiences. And I frickin LOVE this song, as I do the others from this band. 🤘⚡♥️
You are very welcome and thank you for being awesome, watching my videos and giving me feedback. It really means a lot. And yes, The Warning and those sisters are extremely brilliant! 🤘⚡❤️
Thanks for the reaction. I can see that this song affected you deeply, and your feelings for it are totally valid. I would just mention that I don't think from what I have heard about the song's meaning, it isn't really about feeling despair and giving up. It is more about letting someone "drown" in their emotions, let them experience them so they can move beyond them. Often people will repress strong emotions and not fully experiencing them can be detrimental.
I see several others also mention that it's more about drowning in your emotions. And I think I might have interpreted it darker than it was meant to be. But that's the good thing with music and poetry. You use your own experiences when listening to the music, and infuse it with your own experiences. And I've listened to this song several times after I recorded this and it's such a great song, no matter what you put in it. Love them! 🤘⚡❤️
According to Pau, the song is meant to provide a safe space for those who might be experiencing overwhelming emotions, and want to overcome them on their own. They have a few songs which may appear dark (eg, Martirio, Breathe), but encourage emotional resilience. Pau runs the click track and some limited backing tracks from her laptop. 😎👍
Thanks for the information about the song. I might have gone a little too dark in my interpretation, but it is what hit me, possibly due to my own personal experience. But it's really good they have songs that handles deep, and sometimes difficult emotions. And as you all say, they seem to have a positive message. 🤘⚡❤️
One of the things I really appreciate about The Warning is that they understand that although they may have meant one thing when writing the song that people will 'hear' what resonates with them in the lyrics - and that this meaning may or may not match the original meaning.... This is one of the beauties of music!!
100% agree with you. Everyone has personal experiences that colors their feelings. Great artists understand that, and The Warning are great artists! 🤘⚡❤️
This song is from *ERROR*, The Warning's third album released in 2022. It’s about feeling overwhelmed by intense emotions to the point of suffocating under them, with the protagonist wanting to escape but feeling trapped in their pain. Drummer Pau mentioned that the song represents the feeling of drowning in one's emotions, creating a safe space for others who may feel the same. Guitarist Dany emphasized how they wanted the music to mirror the lyrics, capturing the tension of the struggle with the riff and overall energy. The song's dark lyrics and intense instrumentation reflect the hopelessness of trying to survive inner turmoil while offering an outlet for listeners to process their own feelings of distress. For this song there is a very subtle backing track during the chorus that almost sounds like an organ, for lack of a better term. It's less noticeable on this performance than int he studio version.

They did grow up listening to Pink Floyd, and Dany is a fan of David Gilmour, so it seems possible that the lyrics you pointed out were nods to or inspired by Pink Floyd.
Mental health/emotional health indeed (‘Black Holes’ ‘Escapism’ ‘When I’m Alone’). You will find water & downing a repeated metaphor for overwhelming emotion/personal reset (‘Breathe’ for sure, ‘Rivers Soul’). The Warning has NEVER shy’d away from addressing important if uncomfortable subjects (‘Copper Bullets’, the entire ‘Queen of The Murder Scene’ album). While their lyrics always lean to the dark & dramatic, the message is hopeful while remaining real & truthful (‘Runaway’ ‘S!CK’ ‘Martirio’)
I'm so looking forward to listen to the rest of The Warnings catalogue of songs. They impress and inspire me each and every time I listen to a new song. I understand I might have gone darker with my interpretation than the band intended, but I'm still happy they sing about the sad and hard feelings. I love them so much! 🤘⚡❤️
They use very limited backing tracks. 1 is for a click track they used since they were very young. Dany splits 3 Channels from her Kempler profiler. 1 to her Orange Power amp 1 to the Right channel P.A. and 1 to Left Channel P. A. Each channel has different effects. Whammy pedal, octive, Harmony, Chorus, Delay/Reverb ect. That is part of how they create such a huge sound. And Dany use's a lot of Drop tunnings and she uses her Baritone Guitar for a really fat heavy sound.
Thank you for that information. Interesting that she runs different effects left and right, but as you say, that's what build the wall of sound. And no matter how they do it, it sounds great!
@@FranksReactions it's so clever. Effectively when she plays that guitar (PRS in this case and most of the time) she is playing three guitars at once! Blows your head off!

*Choke* to me *Choke* is about those times when you are overwhelmed by things in life and you want/need to work through it all by yourself without others trying to help... Some of the lyrics didn't really fit with what hit me, for example "that vice is overpriced". But it fits better with your interpretation. No matter, it's a VERY good song. I would even say great! 🤘⚡❤️
This band has no problem tackling issues that plague/impact their generation (and apply to all generations, really). Depression, technology (Positives and negatives of it), addiction, thoughts of ending "it" all. They're basically a young, female version of Black Sabbath for the 21st Century. Heavy riffs, dark lyrics, powerful vocals that discuss what is going on in the world from their perspective, as well as warning of what may come. 'The Warning' is the perfect name for the band. Keep working your way through the concert. Still got a couple heavy ones headed your way about depression - 'Breathe' and 'When I'm Alone' - BE SURE to turn on subtitles for both songs, and go into settings to auto-translate to English because they speak to the crowd a little bit in Spanish, in both songs and you'll want to read what they are saying.
I absolutely love young, upcoming bands that do this. And that they do it in a positive way. It's easy to sing about dark times, just to be dark and edgy. It's a whole other thing to do it with finesse, and I have a feeling The Warning manages that balance. I'll for sure go through this whole concert and thanks for the pointer about the subtitles. Should have sorted that for all the videos that have subs included now. Thank you! 🤘⚡❤️
@@FranksReactions Yessir! I think those are really the two critical ones where you'll want subs/translated subs. If you would like to react to the drummer ( Pau ) singing lead on piano , about addition , (drugs or alcohol ) at the Pepsi centre , called " Black holes "i think that you would really enjoy that song , cheers fella .
They describe it as a positive song but I think this could easily misinterpreted. Trying to let people know that everyone gets feeling like they are swamped by life, but that you can rise above it. One thing I can say is that all their songs are ultimately empowering and positive, although they can have a dark setting, sometimes. They are actually three of the most positive and grounded young people in music. They may confront difficulties but always rise above, a great contrast to a lot of the mopey college rock I hear these days.
It didn't immediately hit me as a positive song, but reading all your comments and listening to it several times, I can absolutely see that it is. That's the thing, you only have one chance for a first listen, but then you listen more and more, and also read suggestions from others, like you, and the song makes even more sense. And absolutely, from what I've seen from Dany, Ale and Pau so far, I only feel positive vibes. Love them! 🤘⚡❤️
Fortunately this song did NOT go where you thought. It is about a toxic relationship where the bad guy hurts the person, then reels them back in with tears. "Wear your tears like jewelry: That vice is overpriced" Meaning that your tears no longer have the value they had...it doesn't work, so, rather than dunking me then bringing me back, just let me drown i.e, stop teasing and let me hurt fully so I can move on.
Yeah, I'm happy to say is not as dark as I thought. And the line you reference is one of the lines I couldn't really get to fit with my interpretation. It fits way better with your explanation about the song. And I think we both agree that it's an amazing song! 🤘⚡❤️
There is a cultural divide between USA and Mexico that can be seen reflected in songs made in both countries, even if both are sang in english. Americans tend for the literal and in your face interpretation while mexicans are more poetic, eliptical and interpretative. The Warning haven't yet made a literal lyrics song.
Friend, i am going to ease your concience about this song. The lyrics are metaphors, not literal. The Warning havent yet written a song where the lyrics are to be yaken literal. They deliberatly write them vague so that it can have aplicability. This song is about wanting to have the right and freedom to make mistake and learn from them. The choke is embracing the mistake and the implications it brings instead of running away or go in denial or making up soothing shallow excuses. The drowning is taking responsability and learn. So, ease your mind, friend. Be well.
Thank you, sir! And be sure that I'm doing very well. As you say, the lyrics are vague and that means you can interpret them after your own experiences. And I have no doubt all of you are right in what you are saying about them. And I'll probably be "wrong" about many other lyrics also. 🤘⚡❤️
@@FranksReactions Well, less wrong and more like you are new to them so you are not yet fully aware how they operate as artists. I was the same thing initially when i discovered them a year ago. The Warning Army is good in that regard, they give us plenty of information. The Warning do have songsthat are about suicide or at least suicide ideatization (not in the sense of wanting to but as only the solutionto a deep anguish) in such songs as The End (Stars Seem To Fade), Black Holes and Breathe. Paulina, who is the writer of those songs has admitied that death is her biggest fear because she feels there's nothiong afterwards and she anguishes on the notion of all you ever known and feel just disappears, the absolute loss of identity. People like that tend not to find refuge in suicide because to them there is no hope of a better afterlife. You know what i mean? The Warning are not coy in dealing with heavy subjects - one could say they do nothing but that, ence why their name for the band . but they rarely point towards a solution either, they offer no easy false hopes or solutions. That's refreshingly honest, if you ask me. It says a lot about The Warning that in terms of lyrics their lightest song is Automatic Sun, which on first listen might be about accomodation to obsession and worshipping another person but in fact it is about missing the presence of a good friend. Yeah.
Thank you for all that information! I really appreciate you fans for taking your time and sharing this stuff with me. I'll try my best to learn and become more knowledgeable with the bands as I get to know them more. And the more I learn about The Warning, the more I like them.

So true! You can say a lot about Americans, and they are often good at what they are doing, but they don't do subtle. 😉 🤘⚡❤️
