Hi Craig my brain was working over time on the pot hole effect and how to make it mine . Then an idea came as to how to do so prestation wise. Thank you for your thoughts that inspire.
Michael Close is probably my favourite magician, his thinking is incredible, he has that thinking that people like Darwin Ortiz had, every moment should serve a purpose, for the magician or the spectator. The thinking of building checks into the process of effects so you know if things are as they should be before the spectator does, so you can correct it if it it's not right. His book road to riffsville is a masterclass on jazzing/riffing with a memdeck. My favourite routines have to be the el cheapo magic club, Dr Strangetrick, his version of cardwarp with a display of the card turning inside out that looks beyond impossible, and without a doubt the card the forehead and the salt shaker. His gimmickless version of the invisible deck is also just wonderful.
Yes, the deck was in Aronson stack. As soon as the anchor said "I almost said the eight of diamonds" I was like, "Oh man, Mike got SO lucky here!" Michael Close is one of my favorite magicians. Most of his stuff slays audiences and is brilliantly thought out. Also, I ordered the gimmick for magnetized cards from Plants years ago and then I wound up losing it because it looked too normal and I lost track of it.
I consider "The Pothole Trick" to be one of the greatest, non-card tricks of all time. Something I don't say very often. One reason this guy is SO fooling is he doesn't take fist spectators for drooling idiots. He understands how seldom we really fool them. His explanation on the L&L video is a masterclass on several levels. He seems to try to end most of his tricks clean, something I think is imperative for great magic and cannot be overcome with "audience management".
I’ve got loads of Michael’s material because of you Craig. He must have got very lucky with the channel 8 trick because he uses Aronson and the six of clubs is number 8 in Aronson and the 8 of diamonds is number 9, so with a top change he got there very impressively.
Wow, I very recently got a hold of a Michael Close book, second hand, by luck or perhaps the sellers pure kindness when knowing they were speaking to a person who described themselves as a forever learning student of the Great Art of Magic, i was sold this at a very good price. In fact the price was almost silly. Anyway, I am finding his work absolutely phenomenal! Like you said Craig, the plots and the performance is something he really goes into and seems to understand more than most magicians just how important those two are to the overall impact of any effect. He may well have become my new favourite card magician! . PS. CRAIG... As we all know, magicians having tattoos is quite a common occurrence and so often I find myself looking at them with envy. I love all type of visual art and tattoo's and I especially am fascinated by magicians tattoo's with the various imagery and objects that are part of that theme! Now, not all magic tattoo's are made equal. In dpfact, some are downright bloody hideous or just very badly drawn. Worst of all, I find, is poor colouring. You can (almost) get away with badly drawn symbols but washed out, watery-,looking or faded colours.? Oh noo!!!! Or badly matched colouring where you have the work of an artist who just doesn't know which colours work well together and which colours really, really DO NOT. As I always must see every magicians tattoo's wherever possible, I have seen a lot great-and horrific!- body artworks! I just wanted to say to you that I find your tattoos among the best magicians tattoo's I have seen. The line art works really well and then the use of colour is done so well you can tell right away that it is the work of a professional who knows exactly how colours work together and is very very good at using them. I wont mention specifics because I could be here all day if I start doing that. If you don't mind, I would love to know the name of the tattoo artist, but I understand if you wish to keep your personal life, personal. Anyway Craig, thanks for another great video. Apologies for the over long paragraph about your tattoos but I have been watching your channel for a long time now and have always loved the art and am often squinting and tilting my head to the side when your video is on, trying to see what is on this or that part of your arm hehe. 👍😄
