You are exactly right and that is one of the major contributing factors to today's problems. These people weren't allowed to grow up. They've been coddled and told how special they are, protected from getting their feelings hurt and never allowed to experience normal adolescence where they could develop the skills necessary to cope with adulthood. Now they are adults in name only with no life skills or experiences to draw on and all they can do is lash out in anger.

Considering the attacks that have been launched against him by Grummz and his followers over the past few weeks, I can’t really blame him. All because he dared to investigate Grummz’s history as a developer.

Nick simply investigated Grummz’s history as a game developer and shared what he found. Gigabear, who is Grummz’s friend, created a fake account, fabricated evidence and then tried to entrap Nick by manipulating him into running a false story in order to discredit him. It’s likely that Grummz and Giga colluded to do it as well, since Grummz immediately shared the result afterwards. Who looks like the unhinged one here?

What are they "fighting" for? Censorship? They need to explain.
Remember, if you happen to read some of their articles in future (a thing I don't recommend) that no game journo spoke against censorship in a +18 rated game. They were ok with it, or actively advocated for it.
To establish what gamers can or cannot see, that's what they want.

Nick got the original tip and then started to investigate it. A while after that, a second source appeared, and it verified the information. He now had two independent sources for the information, which is the journalist standard. So he went ahead with it. Unfortunately, it turned out that both independent sources had been fabricated by Gigabear in a deceptive and manipulative effort to try and discredit him.

I learned in life when multiple people try to stop one person from saying something, that one person is a threat to their whole establishment and their way of life. Grummz is that guy to them. They know he has a voice that is making a difference so they want to silence him. It's been happening throughout time. Silence the voice and brainwash the voiceless

The content of the tip made sense in context to past events. And then Gigabear (who made a fake account and fabricated the fake chat log) even posted it to his real account in order to make the fabrication look verified in order to trick Nick.
If only Nick had tried things like:
"This seems too good to be true."
Or...
"Hans... Are we the baddies?"
@@jameshildebrand907 The tip made sense since it was consistent with what Gigabear has done in the past. Only someone with a lot of knowledge of Gigabear’s past would have been able to pull off something like this. It turned out to be Gigabear himself in this case. It seemed too good to be true initially, but then it got verified when Gigabear posted the chat log to his real account.
If both the person who wrote the tip and the person mentioned in the tip said it was real, then that’s a good source. He got the story from what he thought was both sides, but it was all a deception unfortunately.

Unfortunately both of them turned out to be Gigabear who was trying hard to manipulate him. There’s not much more he could have done.

You can't fake an entire identity. For starters, if you make a videogame, you have a company, and thus, a "serial number". Companies are publicly registered.

Some people made fake games on Steam to show that the platforms greenlights anything.
Some guy even went to CES with a fake project, to denounce the lack of strict control.

I am reminded of a interview with Denzel Washington where he talks about "reporters" wanting to be first, not right, not true, just first.
He did validate it. He received the anonymous tip from Gigabear’s fake account but wasn’t sure about it. He said he wanted to investigate more. Then Gigabear shared the same chat log on his real account, which provided a second source for the tip. If the guy who was mentioned in the tip posted the same chat log, that lends a lot of credibility to the tip. So he decided to run it.

I love how Nick is playing this off like he got fooled and not that he just exposed himself for failing the most basic of journalistic ethics. An actual Journalist would have verified the claim before writing the story. And if it could not be verified they wouldn't write the story. But because he was too full of piss and vinegar to write a hit piece on Grummz he completely threw ethics out the window, and somehow it is someone else's fault. It's always someone else's fault with these people.
This really is gamergate 2.0, the original gamergate was about journalistic integrity and now we are having a renaissance of noticing that game journalists lack integrity.
Entrapment reflects poorly on the integrity of the person doing the entrapment, not the victim. Using deception and manipulation to try and discredit a journalist is very poor behavior.

The bad person is the one went and tried to manipulate him and feed him false information with fabricated evidence.
@@adams3560 I think you're giving the journalist a free pass, the point being made is that journalistic integrity goes out the window and these "journalists" will run with anything so long as it confirms their bias and allows them to run a smear campaign against someone they're trying to attack.
IF he was "just doing his job" then he wouldn't be harassing a single guy who makes hot-take posts on twitter. However journalism isn't about running a smear campaign against an individual which is exactly what this alleged journalist was doing. That is the morally wrong thing to do, but being tricked into exposing himself is justice.
The only reason you see a false equivalence is because your personal bias towards Mark Kern makes you feel like there was nothing wrong with someone using their large platform to smear an individual. He was so desperate to get the hit piece out and run Mark Kern down that he didn't do his job and verify the information.

Nick also said Gigabear "coerced" him. I saw someone being fooled, but nbo threat of violence against Dick. What a liar. Should sue for defamation.
