    Little bit worried by how satisfying I find watching people shoot and edit. 'Ohhh yeeah, lower angle, beautiful, Mmm bring down those highlights, just a little more. Yeah that's it.'

    Gavin, I watch a lot of photography videos and while many people share a lot of good information on lighting techniques and tricks I must say that the final photographs you include on your videos are consistently the best around. (Maybe other people just say, "Oh, well, it's just an example photo for my video." and do not put in the post-processing work that you do. But whatever it is, your final photographs are always inspiring and provide marks for viewers to shoot for.... no pun intended.) Thanks, as always, to you and Adorama for producing these videos.

    Nice. Love this tutorial. I learned the difference to use ambient light and flash. And more. Now I know the situations to use each kind of light. The ambient light refer to real situations, the flash light refer to fantasy, unreal situations.
    The flash light brought me an surrealism aesthetic. Something like a steampunk photo.

    Gavin, this is SOOOO awesome! You have inspired me SOO much!! There is a photo group that I belong to and we are having a photo shoot at the Oakland (California) Aviation Museum this coming Sunday and this video as well as the other with the female (red head, I think? ) model an air museum that you did a video on was my TRUE inspiration to do some dramatic shots (if possible) while there. Ambient light and shots can be "nice", but, I want DRAMATIC and I want that "WOW!" factor, so, HSS and practice and props, etc. are what I'm shooting for. Thanks again for all that you do! The best to you, Huie

    I thought he was a boxer as well ;) Very nice comparison of ambient vs. flash. It seems like you can get great photos either way, but each has a different look and feel about them. The ambient look more like what you might find for a simple photojournalism style piece for the newspaper, whereas the flash look has more of an in-depth photo essay feel, like what you might find in a magazine.

    • @GavinHoey

    • @markwang77

      on an overcast day, i almost always prefer flash over ambient - the lighting without flash is too flat and muted otherwise...of course, that might be fine if that's the mood you're going for :)

    I do have one question regarding the light stand that you used. I see that the legs folded up as you lifted it. This is something I have been looking for to help with mobility in sometimes confined floor spaces. Could you tell me what make it is and if possible where I can get my hands on one.

    Hi Gavin, thanks again for another great tip! The post processing part is really helpful in showing us how to get the effect as seen in the image. I have a question. Will a single Canon 600EX-RT speed light + your Glow ParaPop 38" Portable Softbox good enough?
    I know a speeedlight has limited power source, hence I'm thinking of getting the RoveLight or Jibei HD that has 600 Ws but the weight is discouraging me. :)

    • @GavinHoey
      @GavinHoey 8 років тому +1

      The Streaklight 360 was mostly used at 1/2 power which is roughly the equivalent for THREE speedlights all firing at full power. The rovelight is OK but take a look at the newer (and better in my book) Xplor600 www.adorama.com/fplfx600tbc.html
