    Love this mentality. For me, I'd rather make 100K on my own than 200K working for someone else. Time, satisfaction, control... and I can pass my business down to my kids. Can't do that with a job. Anyway, great video!

      I agree with you. I want to pass my business to my kid too in the future, I don't really have to worry about their life in the future. When I'm gone from this world, I still have "company as a family business" who can take care of my descendant. And, have some kind of laws to protect them.

It's only a matter of time and perseverance. But like you said, actually DOING THE WORK (and the networking!) is the key.

People that want to be a developer won't be successful when they find a job as a developer but rather every time they read a book, watch an online course, follow a tutorial or develop a personal project. Many fall back to the 9 to 5 but if you adopt a 'damn the torpedos' mentality and press on relentlessly regardless of the inevitable setbacks, you can get through bad times. You can bounce back and your enterprise will flourish 😀. Feel the passion and believe in yourself and your abilities.

I'm a recent coding bootcamp graduate (funny that I see my former tutor's comments - Steve Chapman - below) not yet working in the industry, but I will break in soon. These past few months, all of your longer, tutorial videos have helped me tremendously to overcome learning hurdles/brick walls and act as in incredible supplemental tool to my formal studies. But these shorter videos are a great resource too; there's nothing like hearing it from someone who is in the same boat. I'll continue watching for sure. My biggest fear is the bookkeeping and accounting side, keeping the tax authorities happy. I know the obvious answer would be to get an accountant, but when you starting out, that's quite a big expense, when your cashflow isn't that strong. Any advice?

    • @TraversyMedia
      @TraversyMedia  5 років тому +6

      I get that. I am horrible with that stuff but I found an awesome accountant that handles everything for me and he does it at a very low rate. It's all about finding the right people to help

    • @antware
      @antware 5 років тому +2

      @@TraversyMedia I guess so. Probably just a case of shopping around and finding the right fit. Do you do your own day to day bookkeeping and then hand it over to the accountant once a week / month? Maybe a good topic for one of your more business related videos, since you're such a role model to so many people.

    • @paweorzechowski3422
      @paweorzechowski3422 5 років тому +1

      @Ant You can try to find a small accountant company or a single person and offer them to do some web development services as a settlement for their accountant services. Probably they might want to extend their company website with some new functionallities which you can do in few hours a month. If you just start with your business (as a freelancer for example) it would not requiere a lot of accountant work so they might be interested with such a services exchange.

      I use Xero. It’s an online accounting system which is straightforward and powerful enough for most small to medium businesses. I found an accountant who also uses Xero, and he charges only for the work he does. I spend about an hour or so a month on my “bookkeeping” and that’s mainly creating invoices and reconciling transactions with the bank accounts. Xero imports the transactions automatically from my bank, so this whole process is really fast. I also have to pay some contractors in other currencies, and Xero handles that too with ease. At tax time, I just ask my accountant to clean-up any errors I might have made (usually account coding mistakes), and then it’s really simple for him or someone in his team to prepare the tax returns. He has “Advisor” access to my Xero account and I find this entire process so simple. I’ve also used Freshbooks in the past, and that worked well, but I needed more robust accounting features, rather than just an invoicing system.

      You can create an App perhaps w/React Native, and all your API calls go to a Server/Serverless running express -- but Node/Express doesn't run on mobile which is why you compile to Native Mobile which makes calls to a Server.

    Good chat. I've built and continue to build websites on the side in my spare time. Some of them have turned in to online businesses that ended up making a lot of money over time. Also, there are no limitations to my creativity when I'm working on projects for myself. Then I take that experience to my day job as a developer and that puts me over the top as far as being competitive in the software development field. So few challenge themselves to this level. If you're a developer, why not build your own Empire.
