  • In this video I demonstrate how to tie the Anchor bend, also called the Fisherman's bend. Although the name would imply it is a knot used to join two pieces of rope together, this is not so. This knot is a hitch used to attach rope onto objects.
The knot is demonstrated as number 1723 in The Ashley book of knots.
The Anchor bend is secure, easy to tie and remember.
    Enjoy the tutorial!

    Thank you. Clearly presented.
For me I think using 3 loops and passing twice through those loops makes it simple, quick and secure whilst remaining easy to undo.

this is my favorite and most versatile knot to date. can be undone with a single gloved hand if not given a heavy load

You could also add a stopper, I think a double overhand stopper would be about right, after the 2nd half hitch as close as you can. The bulk keeps the standing end from passing back through the bight just as it prevents and end from coming out of a block. Now the anchor bend can't shake loose. Because the stopper isn't heavily loaded, it will stay easy to untie.

nice. I usually use a clove hitch with a half hitch backer in this case because it's faster to tie and untie and if there is weight on the line then it will not untie and you don't even need the hitch backer. but you can hitch below the knot as many times as you have line. thanks I'm going to remember this one.

How is this better than two half hitches?

ok now let me see you do a joint splice with a taper on 4 strand braided gear line...

Hehe, I think that will actually come up at some point.
Splicing and tapering are quite enjoyable for me, but I have yet to work with 4 stranded rope at this point. I usually do decorative work, while 4 stranded ropes are often larger diameter ones.
Thank you for commenting, you seem quite knowledgeable on these matters!

Paracord guild thank you. yea ive been a commercial fisherman for 5 years. I learned quite a few knots. but for work. you obviously know more knots than i do. the cool thing about knots is you can make them up as you go. must be a million different ways

    • @Paracordguild
      @Paracordguild  6 років тому +2

      Indeed!
But the number of knots a person knows really does not matter all that much. A single knot can be very powerful if you know how to use it. For example the figure 8 knot can work as a stopper, bend, loop. A relative of mine pretty much sails his boat using that single knot.
As a fisherman you probably practiced a several knots very well and know them better than most people. I'd love to hear which you find the most useful!

Paracord guild clove hitch. without a doubt. but we also use the sheets bend knot to tie our gear together. but i definitely use the clove hitch the most. unless i need to yard the line. then i use a truckers hitch
