Whoever was directing magazine commercials back in 77 deserved an award

0:00--For some strange reason, the music in the Time commercial reminds me of that used to accompany the old silent movies.

4:01 - This Aim commercial is like a bad drama. "He's cavity prone!!" And something tells me this is the last time this lady invites "Blanche" into her house if she's going to be this insane over toothpaste.

I mean even commercials nowadays don’t even get THIS upset over gum disease.

Shut your pie hole, Blanche, and mind your own damn business.

As far as I am concerned, The Ford Mustang did not exist between 1974-1978. That was just a bigger Pinto. Young Erin Gray, before Buck Rogers Fame. Fun fact, she was 2nd Runner up to play Captain Janeway on Star Trek Voyager. When they FIRED Geneviève Bujold after the first day of shooting, the next 2 names on the list was Kate Mulgrew and Erin Gray. If Kate Mulgrew was not available it would have to gone to Erin Gray. Makes me wonder how the show would have been with her as Captain.

"zipping around like a turtle with bad knees" what in the hell does that mean

Possibly a jab at the turtle-shaped AMC Pacer, a competitor at the time.

I remember using Roll-a-matic mops even in the mid 90s. They lasted forever. Is that design still around?

LOL at the Mustang II ad. Not the car I'd choose for "breaking out of the cage." Surprised it didn't fall apart when it hit the plastic bars.
Also, for someone who is such a rebel, she seems to be dressed a lot like a grandmother.

13:47 Car reminds me of the one that was in the Initial D show and movie.

    Roll-O-Matic-the Swiffer of the 70s
Aim-"..and it tastes good,i like it!!" must be eating it like it's candy
Outlaw Blues-those two police officers are graduates of the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy
Bloomingdales-"how to be a hit in the bedroom"..? Wear a fire helmet lol
WABC News-i actually lived through the NYC blackout,it was truly a nightmare

@@sillygoose420 4:01--I can't help wondering if the makers of Aim toothpaste were capitalizing on the success of the "Mikey likes it" commercials for Life cereal?

Nice stuff from New York about half a year before I was born.
The Irish travel ad was creepy enough but for creepiness this time around it goes to those Realemon bears!!!!! Give me the jibblies.

Jack Soo who may look oriental but he doesn't act it. What does that even mean? How do "oriental" (asian) people act?

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  6 років тому +8

The concept of an Asian character on TV without any sort of accent in 1977 was progressive and combated societal norms, expectations and stereotypes. Here's an example of the sort of character that was common on TV only a few years prior: ua-cam.com/video/1BD80DyQodA/v-deo.html

14:04--I believe he passed away during the original run of "Barney Miller," and they actually ran a special episode that paid tribute to him. And from what I've seen here, it looks like I'm not the only person who thinks that electronic music is similar to that used in the "In the News" segments that ran on CBS during Saturday morning cartoons back then.

  • @wigglyboots2

And how, exactly, does one "act Oriental" ?
