    HECK YEAH! So glad I found this video. A spring came out of my lid and I wasn't sure where it went. I was able to figure it out with this video.
    THANK YOU!

    You saved my day...
    As I had no idea where the internal spring should go....
    I had been trying with the spring deep inside but after watching your video i know where exactly should go.
    At the beginning i thought i lose some parts but your video saved my day.
    Keep the real good job.
    Greetings from Monterrey Mexico.

    Nice video for cleaning Stanley Mug. I would like to watch for assembling after clean. Especially spring for the button.

    Wow thanks! I've had it for like 3 years now. Used it a lot when I bought it, but then it just rotted inside the drawer for approximately 2 years. Took it out like a week or two weeks ago, rinsed on it a bit and used it. The cap smelled horrible and I couldn't use it at all. Seeing this video made me realize the amount of dirt that was probably in the cap.
    Used your instructions to disassembly the cap and clean it properly. Now it's perfect, thanks! :)

    Well designed and made to last. Just that fact alone is exciting to me.
    Edit: this reminds me of cleaning a weapon. Based.

    Excellent. Overtime the rubber parts wear and the top leaks. Does anyone know where can I buy replacement rubber parts and springs?

    My trigger button doesn’t have a spring under it. It’s from a pretty old model. Anyone else? Thanks for this btw! Couldn’t figure out how to get all parts out and definitely found some mold and all kinds of nastiness.

    I'm having trouble putting the lid back together. The spring for the push button prevents the button from seating all the way and when I release it, the button comes out too far and falls off. This is not the problem where the bottom gets loose and falls off. Any thoughts?

    After reading all of the comments about the issue with the button, I would avoid removing it altogether. Soaking the cap in white vinegar should take care of any bacteria living inside and should cure any odor issues.
    If you use the warranty and get a new cap, save the old one for parts, especially the little silicone cap that seals the sipping slot. That thing likes to pop off in the wash and goes right down the drain. I've written to Stanley for replacements four times so far (everyone in my family has lost one!), and the replacements arrive within a week. A spot of superglue on that thingy might be wise.
    Again, if you don't wish to take the cap apart, soaking it in white vinegar is a safe alternative.
    Here's a link for replacement part requests: www.stanley-pmi.com/replacement-parts

      I'm soaking it in Oxy-clean for 12 hours. Give it a good rise after the application. It will look like new.

    Side Button Hack #1: Try roughing up post w/80grit, then using a 5mm piece of heat shrink tubing to increase its overall diameter. Mine's holding so far. I honestly had no idea the button was held onto the lid by friction fit. I assumed there was a cir-clip involved and that I'd lost it at some point.
    Side Button Hack #2: Contact Stanley for lid replacement under their lifetime warranty, as recommended in the comments here.

      I emailed support 3 times for my older model. Never heard back. I ended up buying a newer model a few years ago and I love it just as much. Recently I discovered you can also buy a lid for both versions on their website for $10. Hoping I still have my older one in storage.

    So my "button", once removed, would not stay back on. Ended up having to gorilla glue it back on to have it stay.
    I've got another mug that I was considering cleaning as you suggest, but don't wasn't it to break like the last one. Any idea what went wrong the time before?

    This is a helpful video but would you post a video on reassembly? The only part that is an issue for me is the button assembly. The button won't go back on with the spring in place. What is the trick?

    • @azppmd
      @azppmd 6 років тому

      Kathy Huck It should reassemble the same way it came apart. Not sure what's happening on your end. Please let me know what you find and how you fixed the problem.

    • @heartofalegend

      Hi Kathy. I just figured this out. Attached to the push button is a tubular plastic extension. If you look inside it, it has 4 little "teeth". One on top, bottom, left and right. The idea is that when you slide that tube back over the part that extends from inside the lid through the hole, to the outside, the teeth are supposed to lock onto it, so that it takes a lot of effort to pull the button off, again. The problem is that Stanley is making either the tube too big or the plastic extension too small, so that the button doesn't really LOCK onto it the way it needs to. That's why, the minute you add the spring, it just pops right off. If Stanley isn't precise with these parts, then this is what will happen. This needs to be addressed because too many people are experiencing this problem. They have to come up with a new, more solid specific way in which this connection is secured. I got lucky by combining parts from my new replacement lid with parts from my old lid. Thankfully, I got a solid LOCK with the button, and I don't plan on removing it ever, if I can help it. Hope that helps a bit. Feel free to reply with a request for more explanation if you're still a bit unclear. This is a real testimony to how much we like these mugs, to go through this hassle to keep using them.

      It sounds like it may be a quality control issue with Stanley.

  • @heartofalegend

    John, thank you for the video. Like others, I'm frustrated because this is the second lid where the push button came off, and I can't figure how to get it to stay on. What secures the spring? There's nothing that secures it to the mug or keeps the button attached to it, so I don't get it. Seems like very little thought went into this. Do you have any advice? I really do like the mug and prefer to keep using it, vs going back to Contigo. But, they just seem to have done a poor job with the push button. Any advice?

    • @JCLinInterests
      @JCLinInterests  6 років тому

      I wonder if there is a way to make the short stubby rod slightly thicker so that the pressure fit onto the button will be more secure. I think this is a quality control issue with Stanley. It's too bad, because these mugs are incredible otherwise.

      Think Crazy Glue or plastic cement would fix it?

    • @JCLinInterests
      @JCLinInterests  6 років тому +1

      The fix you want to perform should allow subsequent removal and cleaning of parts. I don't think Krazy Glue is a good idea. Rubber cement may be a good idea. It may fill the space without making the fixation permanent.

    • @heartofalegend
      @heartofalegend 6 років тому +3

      I wrapped plumbers tape several times around the plastic stub. So far, it's been about 10 days, with no issue. Can do 90% of parts cleanup. Just can't do anything with the button itself. Don't want to split up the two parts, now that they're staying together. If I can clean everything else, I'm happy.

    I had one for a year then the button started coming off about two weeks ago. Just bought a smaller one, lasted a week. This mug is perfect other than the button. Someone needs to come up with a fix and post it.

    • @JCLinInterests
      @JCLinInterests  6 років тому

      I have an older mug. I have taken it apart and cleaned it numerous times. I have dropped it numerous times. The button has stayed in place. I must be very lucky.
      I wonder if anyone would send me a broken lid (with the faulty button) and let me see if I can try to figure out the problem, video it, and provide a fix. I would be happy to return the repaired (or broken) lid back to you once the project is complete.

    I have the same problem with the button. It doesn't grip onto the post well enough to stay in the correct position. It sort of still works, but it is very annoying and I always worry that the button will fall off and get lost.
