  • Open faced helmets are not a great idea beyond certain specific applications. If you want to, you do you, it is your life and your face. But for those of you that don't understand the risks, this video is for you.

I disagree, I have been riding with a 3/4 helmet with a slide up sun visor and clear full face shield for as long as I've been riding bikes. I'm not going to argue with those that think full face is the only way to go, that's your choice, but to say that 3/4 helmets are all bad and a horrible decision to ride with is also a bit irresponsible however..... anyway, some 3/4 helmets are very worthwhile, others are not, it's a nuanced thing, like life in general, making blanket statements is almost always quite inane. ..

I agree. The most important part when riding is visibility. You don't ride to crash. Yoy ride to enjoy. With more visibility it's also easier to avoid accidents.

Good points with the noise levels. I am from Australia and I wear both fullfaces and a half-bucket. Fullface #1 is tolerably quiet up to 100 even, though I prefer to wear earplugs if I'm taking it that fast. Fullface #2 bothers me past about 70, and the halfie is too loud after about 50. So basically I ALWAYS wear earplugs with the halfie, and it's fine then.
Also, get those earplugs that have bendy domes, rather than foam, because they're much much quicker to put in/out, no nonsense about squishing crap up and holding it in your ears.

I used 3/4 as a kid, then went to full face helmets for years, and have since went back to 3/4. Visibility is superior, as is range of head movement. As is comfort. For me that’s worth the trade off for losing the chin protection.

To be honest, I used a 3/4 early on when I started learning to ride, then I switched to a full face and never noticed the drop in visibility. You would have to be wearing a car helmet like the Simpson range to suffer that. Comfort wise, I never liked how 3/4 rattled and buffeted in the wind.
I'll give you that about head movement though, can't depress your head to your chest to look down as well as a 3/4. A pretty important function for delivery riders, haha.

Great points I personally like the 3/4 helmet it's lighter in weight which is good against neck fatigue and like you already said it has better air flow it also has better visibility, these sorts of helmets are great for urban area's streets and city's the flip shield is easy to use and practical, I do see what you mean (your face is exposed to any impact) however from the data you provided it would be good to know how many of the people who suffered those helmet impacts whether or not they were wearing protective armour as more people who wear full body armour tend to go into a fetal position as soon as they come off the bike, full body armour suits have armour in the back, shoulders, elbows and side's but not the front area's protecting your organs it's because your expected to land on your back and your side's however in countries were squid's ride with sandals instead of boots it's to be expected that protective clothing is something overlooked, wearing full armour is uncomfortable, heavy and hot to wear I understand why people would rather skip it however those who come off riding without armour instinctively try landing on your hands and feet resulting in frontal damage, full face helmets are good but it's visibility over protection, modular flip face helmets are great as they're the best of both worlds full protection with the practically or riding with it open however it's hard to find one light in weight, Great upload friend, enjoyed 🖐️👍
