Zygopetalum Orchid Care Indoors | From Seedling to Near Blooming Size in 1 year

- In today’s video I’ll share how I care for my Zygopetalum orchid. I’ve learned a lot along the way and I credit a lot of the success with growing this one so far to Michael McCarthy, Roger Orchids & Ninja Orchids. These orchids are not fussy at all but have sensitive roots. Provided you’re careful with them during repot time they will grow very vigorously. These orchids tend to be quite thirsty as well - big drinkers. They do well under moderate light. I can’t wait to bloom this one!

Look at that progress 🤩🤩 Zygo roots are just so nice to look at... but just looking at them makes them want to shrivel 😅 thank you so much for joining in, Nicole! For taking the time and sharing your growing experience 🥰 have yourself a wonderful Saturday in NY 🌸
Thanks so much Nina! I'm excited to eventually get blooms one day! I enjoyed watching your repot and look forward to seeing how she does! Genius to repot with the water filled up in the pot for less trauma.
Hi Nicole, from seedling to this in just a few months ! That shows that your growing conditions are very good. I am still at a learning stage with orchids and looking forward to the days when I will have well established specimens requiring less babysitting. I am no longer buying seedlings, today I bought a small phalaenopsis from a florist, it has two exquisite flowering spikes and it cost me just a bit more than a seedling from a grower. From a florist, buying an orchid in flower means that you know what you are getting for your money. Thanks Nicole
You will have specimens in no time! I love seedlings, but as new grower it's definitely best to get some blooming sized Orchids first so you can enjoy their blooms. Really appreciate you watching and your very thoughtful comments. I hope your Catasetums are doing well :)
I’m glad I watched this video, I’m new with Zygos and am not planing to repotting it cause is doing well, hopefully I’ll keep it like that with my care and watching care videos like yours that very informative thanks for sharing your experience with us!
I'm so glad it was helpful to you :)
Your zygo looks awesome Nicole.
Thanks so much for watching! Hope she blooms soon!
What a great change to see it grow from when you go it. Looks like it’s loving it’s setup and hopefully it will bloom soon for you 😁
Thank you! I can't wait to see the blooms 😁 this one will be very rewarding for me and my first Zygo ever!
Great video and roots....we all love roots!!! Keep doing what you are as your Zygo seems to appreciate it. Have a great weekend...
Thanks so much! I'm going to keep it all EXACTLY THE SAME 😁 I hope to get blooms soon ☺️
So beautiful plant orchid,so Lovely flower,Thank you for sahre with US,sedning my hug and support
Thanks so much for watching :)
Thanks a lot for bringing an informative video on zygos.
Thanks so much got watching! Hope it was helpful :)
Great thumbnail, love it! The orchid is in great condition and looks like you’re doing really well with them. Wow that root system! Thanks for all the tips 😊🙏 happy growing 🪴🌸
Thank you! I can't wait to get blooms! They really like their moisture! ☺️
You clearly cracked the code with the zygoes, yours looks fantastic! I still can't build up the courage to get one 🤣
Haha! Thanks! You can do it ☺️
Beautiful adolescent orchid!! Great care presentation!
Thanks so much for watching 🤗
Hi Nicole I remember seeing you repotting this zygopetalum it was small and now look at her now. : ) thank you for sharing your care tips. Have a wonderful weekend keep safe and happy growing : ) Reah
Thanks as always for watching Rhea! You've been watching from the very beginning ❤️🤗
Great set of roots!!! I hear these orchids can grow multiple spikes which I beleive yours will do considering how vigorous it is 🤩.
I can't wait to see it! So excited and hopeful this will happen in the next 6 months 😁
Thanks for sharing how you grow your Zygo. I have one. It bloomed this past late winter into early spring. I grow mine in bark also, only in a clay pot that’s 7inches wide and about 7 1/2 inches tall. It’s a little big but I don’t want to repot for several years. Have a great 4th.🤗🥀
Have a wonderful 4th! Nice you don't have to worry about repotting for a while ☺️ Thanks so much for watching!
Your zygo looks so good. I think it should bloom soon! :D thank you for sharing. And I keep watching true that window, in every video if you have this set up for filming. A lot is happening there LOL … happy growing!
Thanks so much for watching!! Lol! People have told me this about the windows 😂 Good ol' busy upper manhattan street. There's always lots going on here.
I had one but it’s gone, maybe I’ll try again one day. yours is so beautiful, great job amiga 😉💖🌿
Thanks so much! You can do it 💪
Thank u nicole for the update
.
Thank you for watching and following along. Have you been able to find one?
I just lost mine😩. I live in south west Florida and it was in spagnum moss and bark but the roots rotted! I wish I had seen your video sooner since I probably hurt the roots when I repotted it😡. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'm so sorry to hear about that! I think I was successful with mine because it was in a very small pot! With moss I think that's important so it can dry out quickly. Definitely try again, you got this 💪
Thanks for your encouragement. If I try again, I will definitely try a smaller pot and, maybe, not moss?😍
Looks like blooming size to me! Maybe the next growth would surprise you with double spike?
I hope so! I think it'll happen in less than a year, I truly can't wait 😁
If those new growths had started earlier or later, it might have bloomed. I find them extremely reluctant to bloom in the heat of summer. So, probably look for spikes on the next new growths (I assume those will mature around October, so perhaps blooms in January).
We shall see what happens! I'm thankful the heat wave ended today and we got some cooler weather. It's the first time in a week the grow room was under 80 degrees, it's been brutal! My fingers are crossed for blooms in the next 6 months 🤞 thanks for your guidance on these! It was your feedback on Rogers video that really made me understand these guys!
@@NicoleDeanna I can imagine it was becoming a bit stifling. And you haven't even hit August yet.
Hi nicole I just got this orchid today the blooms are so pretty should I wait for the flowers to fall off before I repot it
Yay! A new Zygo is an exciting addition. Blooming takes a lot of energy, I'd wait for the spike to finish before repotting (in general for all orchids, unless there's pests or an emergency situation). I hope you're having a lovely week!
@@NicoleDeanna thank you I am have a wonderful week hope you are too when the time comes to repot would you be able to help me I dont know what its potted in got it from trader Joe's and it's in a dark pot its tightly packed with small bark on top
@@kathleenross7412 just careful with damaging the roots, as I mentioned in this video they are very sensitive, if in doubt if the media cannot come off the roots easily leave it. Try getting it off gently of course, but any bark pieces lodged into the root, just leave it and pot around it with something fresh
@@NicoleDeanna got it also its has wrinkled bulbs only 3 of are those gonna die2 of them are still semi plump
Mine always get black lesions and spots… do you know the cause? Because I’m really good with most orchids
Zygos seem prone to that :(
What is 400 to 500 parts per million? New here!!
Thanks for watching! It's the amount of particles in the water per million particles. I'm short it's a measurement to show how much mineral / additions are in the pure water.
