Updated pin comment✨✨✨✨✨Want to see more of the final artwork? ✨✨✨✨ This is a part of a longer step-by-step tutorial. It is listed below and in the description. I go through the process much slower and show the final work for longer. Also, the Italian Porcetta store is my photo from Arezzo Italy.
✨✨Here is the tutorial ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyUh/v-deo.htmlttps://ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.html
This is an updated pinned comment since some people were quite feisty and didn't seem to see my previous pinned comment. Sorry
*”people were quite feisty…”*
Gotta love the internet. Full of endless dickheads, angry that an amazing FREE tutorial wasn’t given to them on a *polished enough* silver platter.
😂🤦♀️
You're saying paper but can you do this on gessoed canvas as the last step instead of paper... Cuz that would be an amazing beginning to a lot of artwork for me! If that's true! I totally want to try it if it's true that it works with canvas!
Have you tried it with Candice? If you have or if you do, I really hope you let me know!
I took a printmaking class in college but I have never seen this.
This is so in depth and beautiful, I've never seen this kind of art before
I only learned about it recently and couldn't wait to try it out. Thanks!!! I really appreciate it
I'm a little confused on rights. Who took the picture that she's using? Does that photographer at least get any credit? This woman looks like she is in a professional print shop?
@@somewhereupthere785 Hi, I took the photo. It was taken in Arezzo Italy. The first few images were I am testing out the process are from Vogue. But the laser photo is my own photo. Not a professional printshop but I do have a lovely classroom that I am working in where I teach art.
@@bluelavaart You might want to be clear about the photos you use in the videos. There are pending class action suits against AI using artists property let alone anyone else. Beautiful picture though.
@@somewhereupthere785you need to chill dude 🙄
Let me know if you want a longer UA-cam video tutorial on this process
Would love a longer tutorial on your process! This looks like a fun hobby to get into 😃
@@emilbananna Great! I made a longer step by step video if you are interested. ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.htmlsi=o-pbwbt40_lRgQAY
Yes please
Yes!!! I had to get one of these for a printmaking class and never was taught how to use it! It’s still sitting in a box waiting to be used
Yes!
Thank you! I've never found anyone explain this as clearly as you have in this video. Would love to see more like this!❤
Thanks so much! I’m sure that I will post more
The laser print is a photo I took in Arezzo, Italy. I turned it into black and white and adjusted the contrast to make it easier to print with this process.
Bout time someone explained this. 35 videos and you were the 1st.
So happy you found it helpful. I have lots of longer tutorials too 😊
I’m taking print making in university rn. Can’t wait to play around with this technique. May try and incorporate it into my final
pleeease a longer version! thats so interesting!!😍
I will! I’ll let you know when it is posted
I love this.
I made a longer version with a step by step tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.htmlsi=vM_RVmfqSn1jHw5l
I’ve never seen this printing method before!! I am a surrealist and impressionist painter by trade but did my first few years of my BFA as a design major focusing on contemporary print design (laser printing, risograph, and inkjet). I’ve really enjoy doing both graphic design work and traditional painting in my practice and this seems like a amazing way to combine the two!!! :D
I only learned about this a couple month ago. It is a nice way for me to combine my photography and painting
This seems like something my high school art teacher would have done as one of the class projects. She always gave the coolest assignments and why i took her classes every semester and every year in high school. She was definitely my favorite teacher.
I love your style with these. I often see gelli plate art all in a very bright style and not something that feels congruent to my art style. I'm loving seeing a more traditional painting incorporated with the gelli technique.
I totally understand. A lot of crafters use it, which is great but I really like seeing how I can combine it with my painting style. Thanks!
I'm in love ❤️.
I have a special picture of my dad.
This is what I've been waiting for.
That sounds so special!!!!
Oh, that final product was so amazing! ❤
I don't know if I just can't get how it works or I can't because it's 5AM and I haven't slept yet. 😂😂😂😂 Anyways it looks cool and interesting.
I never get tired of watching these
I have a whole playlist!
In love with ur process. Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome!
Absolutely wonderful
Many thanks! 😊
Gel plates are so friggin fun to use!
Agreed!!!❤️
So satisfying 😂
Love it love it love it. No more to say

Very nice.

Wow 🤩

It’s super nice looking:)
Thanks so much
Never seen this before - I like it.
Love this ❤
Thanks!
I finally understand how this works, great explanation!!
YAY!!!
Ok that's freaking slick
Thank you!
That is so cool! I've never seen that specific process for making art before ❤
I'm glad you like it! I only recently learned about it
I have about 10,000,000 crafts that I am in love with and constantly working on….looks like it’s time to make it 10,000,001. 😂❤
Have fun with the process ❤️❤️❤️
@@bluelavaart can this process be done on canvas-or does it only work on paper?❤️
The tricky bit is that canvas is textured. So I think it would be challenging. I haven't tried it yet but I plan on trying it
@@bluelavaart ah that’s true…it would probably come out patchy looking.🤔
Maybe if you primed/gessoed the ever loving crap out of the canvas first? Lol
Love it! Thanks :)
You are so welcome!
I use laminating sheets cut to fit through an in jet printer , it’ll transfer to almost anything fabric, glass , wood , a car bumper , and if you roll it on sideways , it can blend in until you tilt your head and notice a whole detailed image in a strange place . I’ve always wanted to find a spot where someone has deep thoughts and have full thoughtful image there for them to find
wow! That sounds like a very interesting process. Do you use anything on the laminating sheets to get it to transfer, heat, acetone, etc?
My favorite part was when you held on the final picture.
I know. Check out the pinned comment
Gotta love art teachers
I have to try this!!
Really love seeing the result for .02 of a second
I know, sorry. I have 60 sec limit for shorts. I have the full version on UA-cam though. here is my step by step tutorial. ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.htmlsi=VUWojIRGjDWn--1w
You have the well known art teacher cadence and breathy vowels. When u said ‘c-hhover it’ I heard my high school art teachers in my head
I guess I choose the right profession since I have the voice for it. Never knew that. Thanks
That's beautiful
Wow it's amazing 😍
Thanks a lot 😊 It took a lot of trial and error to get here
Thats awesome
Thanks!
That salt city "advert" tho, I wish that turned out

I’m so Gelli that I can’t do this. It’s amazing and truly like magic
Love it!
I'm curious to know if you've ever printed on fabric or more specifically bookcloth? 👀
it looks like a lovely way to decorate covers without need for expensive cutting machines!
I have done it on Canvas and have a video on it. Book cloth might work
what!!! no way!! That’s awesome
Thanks!!!!
awesome
Thanks!!!
That is good
Thank you!
Great explanation 👍
Glad it was helpful!
So it's the same science as silly putty? Damn that's cool
Pretty much!
I don't understand anything but I love the art ❤
Nice, just might switch from Silly Putty.
Ahhhhh the tok book
TOK is everywhere
So it's a print of a print. A negative of a negative is a plus.
Pretty much ❤️❤️
That was the Fastest “Finish Shot” East of the Mississippi 😅
So true 😅The full thing is in a long tutorial. here is my step by step tutorial. ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.htmlsi=VUWojIRGjDWn--1w
I have done 1 out of 30 that turned our right
It could be several things not working. Is it not working in the image transfer layer part? if so, it could be the amount of paint that you have on the gel plate or the image quality of your photos or the amount of toner on the photo. I have in my playlist, a bunch of tutorials that troubleshoot some of these different issues. Good luck and keep trying.
Have you tried painting the back of a lazer print with acetone? It transfers the lazer "ink" to just about any surface!
Yes! I have done that and gel medium transfers. What I like about this is the reverse painting aspect that you can't do with those other methods.
Hi, thanks for a nice video.
What is the last later you put on?
Emilia
you could either do a layer of acrylic paint or in this case I used gel medium. Thanks!!
try pulling the gel pad from the image/paper. It should keep the paper from curling. Cool tho! Looks like something I could do from home :D
Thanks for the tip. It is a great project for home. Easy clean up
How long do I wait to lift the papee
The final pull-off of the gelli plate is done when the paper is completely dry. That could be 10 minutes or over a day depending on how think you laid the paint and the humidity. I hope that helps!!
Does the transfer work with color laser prints? I have a b&w laser printer but have been considering upgrading to a color one.
Yes! it does. Sometimes it works better. I typically use a black and white image but printed in color (CYMK)
So for small details if you print that section in multiple layers so it has more ink that hasnt completely dried, it might catch the details? Smaller details might dry faster than the thicker printed areas?
Yes, the smaller, thinner areas dry faster
Do we need to let the paint dry ?
Yes 💃🎉🌼🌷
What printer are you using?
A multi function printer called triumph Adler
So do you let each layer dry first prior to putting on the gel medium?
Yup. let each layer dry before adding gel medium (not Joe medium, but you better believe I will be calling it Joe medium in my head from now on) :)
@@bluelavaart thank you and 😂😅🤣😂talk to text changed gel to Joe 🤦🏽♀️ I will edit
Hi - I have tried unsuccessfully many time to transfer an inkjet image to gelli plate. I printed it in B&W after making a halftone of the picture. Contrast is good. Black acrylic is wet and thin on the plate after rolling it with the brayer, then I lay down the laserjet image - lightly toughing it for 3 to 5 seconds and then life. It comes off easily - not sticky the way in your video. And ALL of the ink comes off the plate onto the paper. If anything, there might be one small part of the image on the plate somewhere and it is way to light to be meaningful. I dont know how to be lighter with touch or faster with laydown to prevent so much of the acrylic from coming off the plate. Do you know what I need to do? I am out of ideas and frustrated!
I see your frustration and I think I can help. It needs to be a laser jet photo. - Ink jet uses ink whereas laser printers use toner. Toner has plastic in it which repels the paint and makes this process work. The toner in the laser print repels the acrylic paint and lets it stay on the gel plate. The rest of the paint gets sucked into the photo printer paper where there is no toner. The paint, as you experienced, just gets all sucked into paper. I hope that helps
i would love to know if this works with material too
You can do it on fabric. I have never done it though. You need to use a fabric binder like golden GAC 900.
thank you so much for replying and the extra info. Ill let you know how i go haha@@bluelavaart
So are you using ink or acrylic paint at the beginning
Acrylic paint throughout. I misspoke at one point in the video.
How do you make multiple prints? Can the magazine page be reused?
unfortunately you can only make one. It is a monotype
still can't wrap this around my head 🤔
If you would like to learn more, I made a step by step tutorial. ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.htmlsi=VUWojIRGjDWn--1w
Very good! The reveal was way too fast though.
Sorry about that. The 60sec limit is a challenge
The longer version is on TikTok
@@bluelavaart Yes, I bet!
the tok textbook 😭
I know
I have a laser printer. It doesn’t work. I don’t know why. Some magazines transfer. Some do not. I had some older art and antiques magazines and they worked. Overall it can be frustrating.
Yes it can be. I have a longer YT video about editing photos to work better for transfers
When the process is explained to you, and it still goes "Whoosh", right over your head. Sigh.
If you would like to learn more, here is my step by step tutorial. ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.htmlsi=VUWojIRGjDWn--1w
Do you need to credit the original artist/photographer whose image you’re lifting?
The final image is mine. It is a photograph. I took in Italy. The other ones are magazine images that technically don’t need to be cited, but I’m not selling those. Those are just for practice.
Is the gummy thing like non toxic because I would bite it just to see
Good news, it is vegan!
Check out this video I made: ua-cam.com/users/shortsm_OWcaYoh3g?si=ax_vQpuXr1IvVgry
It’s a negative to a positive
That’s the wacky thing about this. It is a positive to a positive
It's chemistry actually.
What was the name of that last wet layer you put on, please? I can't hear it properly.
Gel medium. It’s like acrylic paint without the color. You can also just put on a coat of acrylic paint as well. The main thing is is that the last layer needs to cover the entire plate and be wet when you apply your paper on top of it And then make sure it dries fully before you pull it up.
@@bluelavaart Thank you very much! I look forward to seeing more of your work💚
Can you pause on the last image a little longer? I couldn't even pause at that moment, it went by so fast 😢
Yes. Sorry. This was trimmed from a longer TikTok. I can only do 60 seconds on shorts. I have a long version of this video here ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.htmlsi=VUWojIRGjDWn--1w
We used to call it Super Putty.
Exactly 👍
¿¿¿Does it works on Tshirts as well ???
I have never tried it. However it does. You need to use a fabric binder with the paint
Thanks for showing a 0.2 second shot of the final product.
Sorry about that. It is edited down from a longer tutorial - The full version is here: my step by step tutorial. ua-cam.com/video/QZVKXyQSQyU/v-deo.htmlsi=VUWojIRGjDWn--1w

🤔?
Does anyone know if this would work on fabric?
It does but I haven't done it before. you need to use a fabric binder like Golden GAC 900
How do you get a laser printed image??
I think you can use ink jet too.
❤ How do yoy keep the gelli from trying to lift up / stretch?
Are these gelée ?
Not sure what gelli is
It is the namebrand of the type of plate that I am using “Gelli” @gelliarts
This looks like witch craft and I feel like u are lying to me…. Need 1000 of these now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know!!! that's how I felt when I first saw this process
It's interesting, but I don't like the thrice-xeroxed look of the finished product.
