I know it's 6 years late but I've got a lot of raisins and you convinced me. Thanks for the cool video.
Thanks!
I wouldve ate all those grapes before the water boiled lmao

Those raisins look amazing, thanks for sharing this recipe. Your always so positive in your videos and explain each step very well.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video :)
12-18 hours. Tripping balls son, I’m buying my raisins
well this is a great idea if u dont want to waste grapes or have to many etc... also think of all the things that you can dehydrate to cut down on food waste ...
Can you sun dry them?
@@owenivor yes but it depends on conditions like where humidity and weather
Yeah I understand what you mean. I was surprised by how long in the oven. My bill would be like 😳 😂
I was considering this but that long in the oven is too long. I don't want to run it so long. It would definitely raise my bill a little. 6 hours is my limit. Nice idea though.
Better let it dry on sunlight for 2-3 days, eco friendly and more healthy.
How is it more healthy
@Kahlil Penn if it is, our ancestors wouldn't survive, would they?
@@ichliebebrotmann9709 easy: high temperatures DESTROY most organic (here meaning not the german "bio-" but generally biologic) molecules, including of course also vitamins.
That is if you ever get sunlight
@@rjayalmedora7890 a lot of our ancestors died before they reached old age...
Finally found a simple way of doing this! Thank you!
12 to 18 hours my gosh my electric bill would be INSANE!!! I HAVE A CONVECTION OVEN IF I RAN IT 12 TO 18 HOURS I WOULD BE BANKRUPT MY ELECTRICITY IS SUPER EXPENSIVE NO WAY.
Also wondered about that...
works fine if you have one of those plans which offer free electricity on the day you spent the most. The guy who does the audit of usage behavior would be curious to know what you have done on that day lol.
Well what I do I let them dry slowly in a dark dry spot in the pantry and get results in about 3 months or so I do it all the time....with red, green or dark red grapes... enjoy!
Thanks! Great video. I'll make mine now!
Awesome!
Thank you so soooo much I love raisins. I can't wait to try it.
You are so welcome :)
Excellent
What a perfectly concise video. Thanks for sharing this.

How sweet.
Love your channel. Will definitely start making mine.

Thank you! Happy Cooking! 😀
Awesome! I am so excited to try this. Thank you 🙌✨
You are welcome! You will love how good homemade raisins taste :)
@@ICookAndPaint Hi! They came out amazing. I used some red grapes and put them in oatmeal cookies 😋 I am going to try with green grapes next for an apple tart. You are a genius for figuring this out. Thank you so much. Excited to follow you for your painting too.
Thnx for knowledge, I never thought that raisans are grapes
reaLLY HELPFULL
I’ve never blanched my grapes, but I always freeze my raisins after drying them pretty much the same way you do. I have a pilot light in my gas oven that takes usually about 24 to 36 hours.
Never thought of pilot light, that would be great :)
Love it bro super.
Tried this recipe and worked well!!
Why'd never think about this😋 thank you for sharing your video👍☝️I have wasted a lot of grapes 🍇 because this never crossed my mind. Now I know yay 😊
Awesome, thank you! :)
Another great video, Paul. I love all of them! Yummy!!
Thank U..great video!
Thank you too!

Your videos are so amazing! You really deserve more subs IMO, great work, and keep it up! :)
Aw, thanks! :)
I love your videos, they are very well made and inspiring to try making new things. This summer can you do a video with tomatoes? Would love to see what you can do with them:)
Thank you! :)
That's smart

Slice and freeze grapes. Then juice them. Use the grape syrup in drinks. Mix into dry wine or even jack daniels.
Still watching in 2023. Great info. Unfortunately my grapes have seeds but I'm still going to do this 🙂
Thanks so much! You will love homemade raisins. Happy Cooking!
use parchment paper on baking sheets and they won't stick. Thanks for sharing this, young man! Soooo many fruits and veggies can be dehydrated using the oven! and yea, they are sooo much better for you than store bought junk!
They sure are :)
Very nice idea
I'am from India
Thank you from Canada :)

I had a few questions about the ginger bug, can I use old ginger and does the chlorine in salt kill the bug?
18 hours!? omg, my electricity bill will blow up.. :'(

let them dry out in the sun for 3 days make sure you keep them covered
It is better than dehydrator.
Gonna try this tomorrow. I have a lot of grapes.
I hope you like them
Dhoop me kaise banaye??
I have a ton of extra currant sized tomatoes in my garden. I wonder if this would work for them? ...I'm going to give it a try!
I think they would! Let me know if you try :)
@@ICookAndPaint I just tried it yesterday, & it worked. They make a good savory snack.
I salted them, before I put them in a 170 degree oven with th door propped open an inch for 6 hours. Salting them before drying helps keep them from sticking to the parchment paper or each other. This might not make a difference, but I would have salted them to bring out the taste as well as to help their shelf life anyway.
Drying them is a good way to preserve them, instead of them going to waste. I'm sure, that they'll have a good shelf life, but they taste so good, that they won't stay on the shelf long!
@@sparky6086 I’m so glad! I have black grapes right now that I am not really eating and I am going to try with some salt tomorrow. I always love when I learn from viewers like you. Thanks! :)
Great idea. But 18 hours in the oven? Can't they be dried without an oven?
Wow xxx
hello! I'm a new subscriber here! Uhm what thing shall I use in making raisins if we don't have any oven???
Thank you for subscribing! The only no oven option I can think of is a food dehydrator. You might be able to dry them in the sun, but they would have to be covered somehow to protect them from bugs. I will make a video when I figure something out :)
@@ICookAndPaint thankyouuuuu
Only if you grow your own grapes or get it free of cost. Grapes in our country cost a lot and raisins are comparably much cheaper to buy considering 1 pound of raisins need 6 pounds of grapes.
1 kg of grapes cost about a US dollar and 1 kg of raisins cost around 4 US dollars.
@N C no, I'm not poor but I'm concerned about poor. Grapes are not much grown in our country and the price which I have quoted is the minimum. It may go upto 3.5 Dollars per kg.
But cost of raisins is much cheaper.
If you want raisins here, just buy them. If grapes then buy grapes, but no need to take hassle of making raisins as you get this much cheaper in the market. That's all I want to say. Here people can survive with earning $5 per day as labour.
Canning peaches
So if boiling the grape cracks it open then is it safe to say I can just crack the grape myself skip the boil and put it out in the sun?
It would likely be fine, but dunking them in the water also blanches them slightly to get a head start to drying. If you try it, let me know how it works out 👍
Doesn't this cost a ton? Running an oven for 12 hours...?
Hi from South Africa. No one in South Africa, no matter if they pay their electric bill or not, can dry raisins for 18 hours in the oven. No 1 it can cause loadshedding in their municipality or even countrywide cause most homes have electrical ovens. Only those that can afford solar panels can do that. No 2 The weather is never that cold that you can keep your oven on lowest heat for 18 hours, and besides, we love baking in the oven and most households only have one oven. A better method is to cook for 2 minutes, dry with a cotton cloth, put in a pan in the sun covered with the cotton cloth for 3 days. Trust me, even in the Winter we can make raisins this way. One day when I have two ovens and solar panels to give constant electricity to my home, I will try your method.
Hi! Thank you for your comment. I can understand how this method would not be practical in your situation. Here in North America electricity is quite cheap, and where I live (Canada) it gets even cheaper during the night time hours. I actually love your suggestion much more as it doesn’t use any electricity at all. One day soon I will try it :)
@@ICookAndPaint thanks😀 Gonna search your channel for paintings, I love to paint too, though not that good at it👍
Your videos are awesome! Was the blanching used only to crack the skin? If so, do you think slicing the skin would work too?
Thank you! I believe it's more for speed; slicing them would take much longer. Honestly not sure if it has an effect on drying time, but I would guess yes (it helps them dry better?)
so sun dry 3 days without having to blanch it is equivalent to oven lowest temperature for 16 hrs with blanching ?
what could the lowest setting of oven is ? how hot is it ? 50C ? or 100 C ? or above ?
would not blanching the grape ruin all the nutrient ?
any idea how the commercial doing it for ages ? with that huge amount of grape ?
thanks
andrew
Can i put the grapes under heater?
I have never tried that, but as long as the temperature is 170F/77C and the area is clean, it should work 😀
I hv no oven
Is this how raisins are made??😁. I thot there are raisin trees😅😅
Do raisins need to be mixed with sugar?
No they do not :)
I'll just go buy a dehydrator !
nigga said mmm 😋
“I Cook and Paint”
Okay Paul I know this video was 4 years ago but are you taking any friendship applications at the moment🤔
Agree with Tamara below. No way I will keep my oven on for 12 to 18 hours. Rediculous! Not cost effective at all.
my maladaptive daydreams storyline brought me to This video 🤷🏻♀️
18 hours!
Why do you boil the grapes first and you don´t put them without boiling into the oven?
It blanches them and cracks the skins so they will dehydrate faster.
I Cook And Paint I failed. I don’t know how i left them in the oven for 18h and they were not completely dehydrated. On top of that they became really sour although they were sweet. I don’t understand:(
@@arabaouni I feel so bad! Was your oven on at the lowest temperature? My lowest temperature is 170F. I feel like they should have been well dried out by then. What kind of grapes did you use? Maybe they were more juicy than mine? You should be able to cook them with sugar and make jam, so they don’t go to waste.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
18 hours? In 2022 electric prices unless your stealing the power I think you'll find asda to be cheaper for a bag of raisins cheers anyway always wondered how to do it!
For sure! This was done a few years ago when hydro was actually cheaper. Still a fun project and the best raisins I ever ate :)
It tasted a little bitter... what did I do wrong?
Sorry that happened. I wish I knew but maybe it’s the type of grapes?
Me thinking that you should just leave ‘‘em outside:

The dehydrator is cheaper than that electrical bill!!!
You are quite right :)
18 hours baking in oven? !
Yes at the lowest temp :)
Ikr... makes me wonder which is cheaper, 3 barely filled plates of raisins or 18hrs worth of lpg
@@loieesafy1372 yeah nice idea in oven but in inda better to keep in sunlight bcz I don't want to pay current bill on oven , that money I can buy much more grapes
Thanks for making this video Paul; no offense but in the oven for 18 hours? Isn't that too much?
Hi there! Thank you for the very helpful comments. Actually, 18 hours at the lowest setting (170F) is just right. Depending on your oven, you could turn it off after 12-13 hours and let them dry out the remaining 5 hours :)
@@ICookAndPaint Thanks
There is no sun the place you live IN? Instead of 12-18hrs wasting electricity
I live in Canada and this was filmed in January
Why not use a dehydrator? 😆
I do not have one :)
They look tadty.the $300 power bill to run over is only down side
Yes you can double this. Thank you for the nice feedback!
Jesus! Just put them in the sun for 3 days.
I would have, but it was January...I just sun dried some cherries though and they did indeed take 3 days! 😄
Not everyone has that much sun
Ross Brass If you're going to bring Jesus into this you're probably going to end up with wine.
@@ICookAndPaint Did you bring them in at night? Aound here we have a lot of moisture overnight.
Wait so your going to leave the oven on the whole night????
That is correct. At the lowest setting it acts more like a dehydrator than an oven.
hellllllllll no
Ecology-wise, making raisins in an oven is an enormous waste of energy and CO2. Raisins should be made with natural sunshine. Using an oven is simply a horrendously bad idea.
