      @@ICookAndPaint I just tried it yesterday, & it worked. They make a good savory snack.
      I salted them, before I put them in a 170 degree oven with th door propped open an inch for 6 hours. Salting them before drying helps keep them from sticking to the parchment paper or each other. This might not make a difference, but I would have salted them to bring out the taste as well as to help their shelf life anyway.
      Drying them is a good way to preserve them, instead of them going to waste. I'm sure, that they'll have a good shelf life, but they taste so good, that they won't stay on the shelf long!

    Only if you grow your own grapes or get it free of cost. Grapes in our country cost a lot and raisins are comparably much cheaper to buy considering 1 pound of raisins need 6 pounds of grapes.
    1 kg of grapes cost about a US dollar and 1 kg of raisins cost around 4 US dollars.

    • @Dave_en
      @Dave_en 5 років тому

      @N C no, I'm not poor but I'm concerned about poor. Grapes are not much grown in our country and the price which I have quoted is the minimum. It may go upto 3.5 Dollars per kg.
      But cost of raisins is much cheaper.
      If you want raisins here, just buy them. If grapes then buy grapes, but no need to take hassle of making raisins as you get this much cheaper in the market. That's all I want to say. Here people can survive with earning $5 per day as labour.

    Hi from South Africa. No one in South Africa, no matter if they pay their electric bill or not, can dry raisins for 18 hours in the oven. No 1 it can cause loadshedding in their municipality or even countrywide cause most homes have electrical ovens. Only those that can afford solar panels can do that. No 2 The weather is never that cold that you can keep your oven on lowest heat for 18 hours, and besides, we love baking in the oven and most households only have one oven. A better method is to cook for 2 minutes, dry with a cotton cloth, put in a pan in the sun covered with the cotton cloth for 3 days. Trust me, even in the Winter we can make raisins this way. One day when I have two ovens and solar panels to give constant electricity to my home, I will try your method.

    • @ICookAndPaint
      @ICookAndPaint  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! Thank you for your comment. I can understand how this method would not be practical in your situation. Here in North America electricity is quite cheap, and where I live (Canada) it gets even cheaper during the night time hours. I actually love your suggestion much more as it doesn’t use any electricity at all. One day soon I will try it :)
