    Fantastic! Made this today and let it chill in the fridge before serving. This was my first time making a recipe that used tinned sardines, and I couldn't be more pleased!

    Ever since I played The Witcher 3 and seeing the pate in my inventory I've been wanting to make my own.

    We always have tinned sardines and mackerel in our cupboard superb on toast for lunch, don't often think to make pate till now. We picked up some sea bass fillets ( will get some sole next time) at the market last week and used your Grandmothers favourite meal, from your book, this has to be one of my favourite meals, easy to prepare but so full of flavour. I've even picked up some tarragon to see how we go. Thank You Bart.

    Out of many videos I chose this one. I am glad I did. I even tried cream cheese instead of butter. It was gone in an hour so it must have been OK. Thanks a million.

    Hi Bart! I'm gonna make your delicious-looking pate for sure, next time we have a party. Sometimes I make a sandwich of sardines and sliced avocado with lemon juice, hot sauce, s & p on toast. It's good too!

    This looks really delicious and easy but I don't own a foodprocessor anymore. Do you think I could mix the ingredients by hand? I don't mind if it turns out not as smooth as this one, but I am afraid I won't get the butter properly mixed with the sardines.

    • @illomens2766
      @illomens2766 6 років тому +1

      if you soften up the butter very well and then use a sharp knife you can mix this almost as well as you would be able to with a food processor, but it takes a lot longer and it's messy if you don't have a large surface you can do the chopping on

    • @sergiojacome
      @sergiojacome 6 років тому +3

      just shop the scalions as small as u can.. the rest mixed by hand is fine.. the flavour will be there and the more rustic consistency wont diminish the dish..

    • @johnvanegmond1812
      @johnvanegmond1812 6 років тому +2

      I agree with Sergio, the courser chop will be delicious also. An inexpensive useful tool to use is a mini chopper. Takes up the space of half a loaf of bread and much cheaper than a food processor. We had a food processor but got rid of it. We like the chopper that much.

    Bart, is there a reasonable substitute for all that butter?

    • @rohl374z
      @rohl374z 6 років тому +2

      Perhaps avocado? To get the same creamy consistency. It’ll be greenish though and won’t taste as rich. Let me know if you find a substitute, I’m interested too!

    • @johnvanegmond1812
      @johnvanegmond1812 6 років тому +3

      No substitute for the butter for this recipe. It would not be the Portuguese Sardine Pate. You can prepare sardines many delicious ways. This in just one of them. If you make it differently, viola, you have a new recipe. Be daring. If it tastes bad, do it different next time. :)

    Looks delicious. I would be interested to see a proces of making sardine pate from fresh sardines. Is there a way of preserving bones in it (for osteoporosis)?

    • @Bartsfishtales
      @Bartsfishtales  5 років тому +2

      Hi Ivy! Thanks for your question. In the case of fresh sardines I would first steam/cook the sardines shortly. Basically the same proces as tinned sardines except they didn't got the chance to 'ripe'. Quite curious what the outcome would be. Would be great if you could let me know.! Regarding your question about the bones, then I'd actually recommend to eat tinned sardines. You can eat the bones in tinned sardines :) Hope you'll enjoy your pate, made of fresh or tinned sardines! Have a great day, cheers.

      Your supermarket should have some. If not, Asian ones usually do. And, you can always get some online

    • @johnvanegmond1812
      @johnvanegmond1812 6 років тому +2

      As a sardine snob, I recommend Sardines in olive oil only. Large sardines for coarse texture, brisling for a finer texture. In the USA, I find them next to the canned tuna.
