    This is one of if not the best videos I have seen about the places to visit in the UK, informative and incredibly well shot footage, nothing looks forced and false, genuinly well done, other vloggers should watch and take note/s of how it should be done.
    I live just south of York in a city which was a supply hub to York by river in Roman times, this was particularly useful as they used the rivers which join us, this avoided theives etc by road which was common due to the ease of access, unfortunatly little evidence is left of the Roman occupation here except for street names etc.

    Wow..what an amazing vlog. Thankyou for sharing this. Shows my country off in a way i dont think other vlogs do. You showed both the good and the bad of our history and the fact that even the darkest moments we dont hide from our history, and that we aim to educate and learn from our past mistakes. I love the locations you visited and our scenery is to die for, but i am biased lol. Thanks again. Hope you had an amazing time here. Welcome.back anytime. You showed true respect for our nation and iur treasures. So thankyou . Its appreciated. Not everyone is so kind.x

    It is important to understand that not one African slave passed through Bristol and that only the ships used to transport slaves came from Bristol merchants in the triangular business ventures. Before that, Saxon slaves were transported to Europe and Ireland until that was stopped by King William 1st after 1066. All civilisations and cultures were enslaved and enslaved others through history until the UK banned the practice in 1805 and enforced the ending of transporting people out of Africa, bought from African Rulers, for the trade to the Arab and Ottoman Turkish Empires after complete castration and survival of that practice and to S America. Also, the UK bought the freedoms of all American slaves which caused a national debt that was only paid off in 2015. Slavery is complex and exists today, increasingly. No-one talks about it.

    • @anthonycliftonjones2564
      @anthonycliftonjones2564 6 місяців тому +43

      Well said and iterated. I hate the modern style of museum exhibitions that downplay Britain's involvement in ending slavery in the British Empire and the World. We are made to feel colonial guilt for crimes committed by most nations of the world.

    • @mariewolton7027
      @mariewolton7027 6 місяців тому +37

      And also, within the law it stated : if a slave stepped on England - anywhere - they were instantly free.

      200+ years of debt.

    • @qman2261
      @qman2261 6 місяців тому

      Well said - this colonial guilt thing has gone way too far - our kids our growing up thinking Britain was the first and only country to ever have an empire and that it was exclusively exploitative and provided nothing in return. Perhaps Italy, Greece and Egypt should empty their museums of all their heritage - after all, they were all slave owners! Same for pretty much every other country in the world and the Africans were some of the worst.

    • @Whiteshirtloosetie

    My third, and final, comment from me.
    I'd like to say thank you to the maker of this video for being so authentic and accurate about York Minster.
    Alongside the library at Arundel Castle (which I do hope that you will also visit one day) it's one of the most beautiful and atmospheric buildings in the world.
    TOP TIP: Visit the Minster when the choir are practicing; take a seat, look up at the ceiling and just listen... I promise you, the hair will stand up on the back of your neck, you'll get goosebumps and a lump in your throat, like you have never experienced before!

    Love from Yorkshire.
    PS to any visitors to York, just 17 miles by train is Knaresborough, where I am at the moment, and is one of those Hidden Gems, that people from York visit, because it is like York without the masses of tourists, where you walk down a side street and think, why haven't I seen that on a picture postcard?

    Lovely video. I always love listening to Americans and the way they pronounce things, it always tickles me 😅
    Durham Cathedral is the best. It's actually a Cathedral Castle as both are built on the same place.
    If you ever visit I have a task for you. The American presidential seal is the Washington coat of arms... it's from here, and it's in Durham Cathedral... see if you can find it... difficult to find, it's small.
    It's also the origin of Gothic arches, the poiny ones that allow them to have really slim pillars and be very high. You can see where they started with Roman arches and then developed gothic.
    It's also the resting plase of St. Cuthbert who's remains were hidden from the invading vikings.
    Also the venerable Bede who gave us the A.D. B.C. calendar we use today.
    You can go to the very top of the tower for a couple of quid, the Cathedral is free... I nearly had heart failure when I was expected to pay to get into York Minster 😮fortunately we were there for Easter service and didn't have to pay... still 😮
    Plus you can go into the castle, and if you book early..... and have plenty of money, you can stay.
    ❤ from Northeast England ❤️

    Winchester is where Alfred the Great ruled from. He started the process of binding the English into one national and his gr@ndson finished it off. Henry 8 ‘s older brother Arthur was taken there to be christened as it is a very important place in the history of our monarchs and country. The little villages in Hampshire are so pretty as well in lovely rolling countryside. Well worth a visit as well as all of Devon,Cornwall and Sussex.

    From real life experience....
    American tourist in York: Excuse me; could you give me directions to the Minster?
    Me (in York): Certainly... [I give them directions].
    American tourist: We've heard that the Minster is very old.
    Me: Yes, in fact, it's about 700 years older than your country.
    American tourist's young children: [mouths open, jaws hitting the floor, eyes as wide as dinner plates].
    Bless them, the oldest manmade thing that they had ever seen up until that point in their lives was their grandfather!

      @@DatFwad What's not to love about Blackpool ? Six miles of sandy beaches. All the fun of the fair on three piers, The iconic Blackpool Tower, the British Eiffel Tower. A circus, a zoo, Sealife centre and so many more attractions. It's a great place for families and plenty of low cost accommodation. Did I mention donkey rides for kids on the beach ?

    Wonderful video, your daughter's adorable.
    Next time try the Lake District.
    I've lived there (Keswick) all of my 53 years and I've yet to see a more beautiful place, here or abroad.
    York's easily the most beautiful city in England, Durham too.
    London is so overrated.

    A charming video, interesting to see our country through the eyes of Americans. The Royal Crescent in Bath is Georgian not Gregorian. The river Thames is pronounced ‘tehms’ not tayms. And was that “Rain and royalty” ? 😂or reign

    Great video thanks...must have taken ages to edit. FYI Edward Colston was a merchant trading in textiles and food & drink imports.

    You certainly got very busy in England (and Wales), I am sorry you had so many rainy days to contend with. It was nice to experience your pleasure in the sites you visited.
    Please forgive me but the first place is Bath pronounced Barth likewise those big stone buildings are pronounced carsles. The crescent of houses is Georgian architecture not gregorian.
    In Bristol there is a cathedral, but St Mary Redcliffe is just a church.
    That wooden contraption is called the Stocks, not stockades.
    Glad you enjoyed York.

      Their is NO Gregorian architecture it was called Gothic !! Most African Slaves were sold into Slavery by their own people don't hear anyone asking them for restitution ?? Also a large number of American Slave Owneres were Black Freed Slaves Who were paid restitution by the UK up untill 2015!! Anyone got an axe to grind about That ??
