It's interesting that you say that about FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET, which I too found pretty underwhelming. I have a deep love for THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE, and consider it much better than the two films that followed it. But DEEP RED is definitely the moment Argento became the Argento we know, and remains my favorite of his films.
Dude this was an awesome review! Your wall of movies and shit behind u is immaculate. Please don’t stop doing this! I enjoy listening to what other horror lovers have to say. Argento is one of my favorites. The first one I ever saw of his was Suspiria. Deep Red has to be one of my favorites besides inferno.
Sinister Cinema Reviews I know I just came across this now! I have some catching up to do. Thank you for making content I can actually relate to. Half the time I talk about horror movies with someone they don’t know what I’m talking about lol
This movie established some important aspects for the genre such as the importance of colors, plot twists, and flashback sequences. It also paves the way for Suspiria in the use of colors and interiors/buildings, especially the beautiful haunted house, as part of Argento's renowned aesthetic. The score was brilliant and extremely creepy. Argento's use of lighting and visuals is flawless, it adds such a depth to the movie. The shot of the lizard impaled on a needle, was done for real sadly. This monstrous act of cruelty is inexcusable, given that Argento had hired effects technician Carlo Rambaldi, previously responsible for *simulated* animal carnage in Lucio Fulci's A LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN (1971) which was so realistic, it landed the Fulci in court! This is one of the very few movies I know of where people I respect actually prefer the cut version. Either version is watchable so it's really just a matter of taste. For the record, I prefer the extended version. Thumbs Up Jason..Great Review!!
I really, really like this film, it was the 1st argento film i ever saw & ive always had a soft spot for it. David Hemmings is great in it & the music is outstanding. Great film, great review. Bring on Tenebrae ha.
My first car had three broken door handles so I would leave it unlocked. Of course, somebody stole the stereo despite it being worth like 50 cents. I never had to get in though the trunk but I feel your pain on some level.
I agree that the music is awesome. . . Of course I could google it, but I wonder how many iconic slasher themes took the opening music as primary influence???
After watching Deep Red, it’s obvious The Original Friday the 13th borrows a ton from this and other giallos.... the only thing it ripped off from Halloween was the method of putting the flick together....

Absolutely

I also wonder if the red-haired doll somehow inspired Child's Play. These older films were so innovative and imaginative.
I don't think Carlos or whatever the kid is called killed anyone.
Great review bro! You hit the nail on the head! I absolutely adore This movie! This is my favorite by argento.
Thanks. It’s a great one

All of them! Haha
Top 5 Argento movie for sure
Aw damn my favorite film ever
I honestly can't think of anything to write in the comment, great review bro! Actually Suspiria then Inferno then Tenebrae!
I’m pretty sure that they’re calling out his toxic masculinity in the scenes you described. I read it as well ahead of it’s time in that regard
My favorite film. I really like the actor who played the pianist. Actress director's wife is very good. sorry for my English))
Your English is better than most Americans in here haha
You might enjoy BLOW UP, another movie starring the same actor David Hemings. In some ways a similar role too.
My favorite Dario Argento.
I didn't like it much as Tenebrae or Susperia, but this one is REALLY good.
that's fair
To me this film had the greatest writing and humor
Dude! I saw the little guy in Insidious when she walks by the laundry area and thought it was one of those ornamental lawn jockeys :)
Hahaha
In rome in the 70's argento really had a love for women. And daria argento ( dario's wife ) is great in this film.
ex wife.
Haven’t watched your vid yet, just want to be the first ❤️
You are 😉

Deep Red and Suspiria inspired John Carpenter to make Halloween.
I need to rewatch this giallos are my favorites, but this I will never understand the hype. Thought it was insanely boring.
In my opinion was an ok movie but a little overrated. Tenebrae was better.
