in Canada the tip is the same as in US, again Americans tip much better and are generous when visiting Toronto.

tips in america and canada are considered mandatory because some professions are based around being paid minimum wage and that wage is taxed to hell, and the company takes deductions from pay-cheque so the worker brings pennies home, and the only money they really make is tips

Very cool interview. I am a Software Developer in Canada over 20+ years, born in Bulgaria. I am thinking about moving back to Bulgaria and this video gave me some perspective! Thank you.
We are taught here in Canada to earn our stripes :D - so hopefully I can bring that into Bulgaria.

You could easily create your IT company here. You will love it. More and more people from IT sector came back from Canada and the US. We need people like you to return and help us free the country. A lot of opportunities here.

I love Bulgarian Turks. The best people ever. It's not linked to the alphabet lol. The Romanians are more open-minded and nice, Less judgmental. Biggest problems in Bulgaria are due to incompetent HR people. They have a very wrong idea of what is HR. Leadership is really weak. However, I am lucky to have found a good company with amazing people. Elly has many prejudices which is sad for a leader and an HR professional. This is toxic.

It's people's fault because they do not engage in politics, they don't vote, they are very passive, they are not fighting for values because they don't have the values. I have always worked for American companies and the bribery rules are so strict. In America you give a tip, in Bulgaria and in Europe it's supposed to be included in the price. However, I always tip here in Bulgaria too if people are nice and provide a good service which unfortunately is rare.

We have a huge demographic problem. We have a lot of jobs but we can't find the people. Not only in Sofia now. Elly is very right. I hardly ever speak Bulgarian in Bulgaria. All my friends are foreigners and expats and I live in Plovdiv 😀. The only issue is that companies are abusive and pay people from Plovdiv less for the same position, but I'd rather move back abroad than to Sofia. Cars do give way to pedestrians more and more. Honest and hard work always pays off but Sofia is very toxic due to communiste past. Loyalty is important, I would leave my company only for double the salary.

Fixed working hours is an useless stress. Sometimes I have this very productive times and I can work 20 hours in a row do the work for an entire week in terms of efficiency. Sometimes you can't focus so better do something else. There is a lot of age discrimination in Bulgaria. HR are very weak compared to other countries I lived in. Management is very weak and often toxic.
Putin still rules over Bulgaria. There is one Canadian company in Bulgaria and this is by far the worst company I worked for. Actually, the only bad company I ever worked for.

People don't follow the rules because they don't trust the government.

I agree on laws. People do not want to obey because the leaders are the first to brake the laws. It comes to a very poor leadership of the country.

This is not true about people not wanting to work, we do not have 60 days holidays. People take sick leave because of bad management. I took one day sick leave in 3 years because I was very sick even when I had bad management. You have very wrong perceptions on some topics.

According to a worldwide survey by the Economist, Bulgarians have, on average, 55 days off-more than any other major country. They have over 50 percent more paid time off than Americans, Japanese, and Germans. "
      They include sick time off.
That doesn't mean that all Bulgarians have 55 days off.
You are a workaholic. Good for you!
