He plays in big arenas, he plays in bars. He plays for fun. This man is a true legend in rock and roll history and it's not just a job. He breaths rock and roll. Respect Phil.
In my opinion.... Phil Rudd is one of the best drummers of all time!!! He plays to the song, he doesn't over play, and his chops and groove are huge!!!!
Exactly man, in the words of Malcolm Young himself: "Rock bands don't swing. Only rock n roll bands swing, and there's very few rock n roll bands. There's the Stones and us."
playing in big venues or not, it does not matter, even because it started like this, in small venues, what matters is to be doing what you like, that's the essence of rock and roll! !!
As a drummer of 35 years I can honestly say that what Phil does is a lot more difficult than you might think, holding a steady time and beat and not doing rudimental fills and rolls is definitely harder than you will ever know.
I briefly did an AC/DC tribute (well I say "briefly", I did about 6 months learning/practise for what amounted to two gigs) and my was it hard. The actual drum parts for the average AC/DC setlist aren't difficult, but the relentless nature of the beats, both physically and mentally, requires a massive amount of stamina (and sticks/snare heads!) if you're going to get it right. The same with some of the crash placements - they fit with the music, not the drums, so some of them can feel unnatural. Not saying that I got the feel right (I'd need a good year of gigging the stuff and then probably more to really dial it in), but all the same, in the second gig I did find myself "chewing" like Phil does and I could start myself wanting to put the snare off-centre, like him! I don't think you can do the snare-arm windmilling with the snare evenly placed between your knees. I've done other tribute stuff, some of it very in-depth, so have a bit of background in replicating feels and using body shapes etc to get there.
Singer Allan Badger. Used to sing at the Angus Inn, Rotorua, New Zealand back in the early 80s. Phill used to live on the next street from me in Tauranga, New Zealand 🇳🇿
Its sad to see Phil these days. So far from the rock star he used to be. Still a legend. He will always be the true & only real drummer for AC/DC. Others have sat in the seat but none suited the style or had the swing for AC/DC like Phil had. Its hard to watch AC/DC without Phil :(
Never sad to hear Phil playing the drums. He loves playing them and he no one holds a beat like him (why he was called the human drum machine). And it's a lot better to have him out playing the drums than holed up in his house with hookers, booze and guns like he was at one point.
I know these comments are from several years before, when Phil wasn't in the band. But recently Brian said that there have been only one AC/DC drummer, and that's Phil. The other ones were employees while Phil wasn't available.
I like them. Big respect fore them starting up from skratc and back to basic old scholl rock. No Bs and fancy stage just men who loves to rock. Keep up Phil and Co.. Love from Denmark...
I was with them since March 21st 2017 in Vienna, until May 20th in Pardubice, Czech Republic... Drove all over the continent and UK. Once in a lifetime chance. Will never ever forget. Remember this venue very well... 🤘
I don't have an issue with the singer-his vocal range isn't through the roof, but he does okay singing in a key he can handle. It looks like this band is Phil and his mates, rather than Phil and the best professional musicians he could find but that's fine; its better to go on tour with guys you get along with, provided they're good enough to pull of the show. While not knock-out musicians, these guys are good enough.
Talk about friendship, this is filmed on the border between norway and sweden...a halv world away from Australia. Thats friendship. Nearest bog town is hours away all directions.
I think we're a generation that will , actually keep along side a fifteen year old ...or AT LEAST try our damndest love always and our best song team and teacher 💌great one to , I like the honorary size guitar .Thank you for the post 👍
I love Phil so much. I want to meet him ,I live in N.Z close to where he lives, can anyone put me in contact with him please. I grew some really mean AF weed n I want to give him some 💚
Cheers to Phil for keeping his chops up while he was sidelined. I can tell you first hand it's not hard to lose it if you lay it down for a few years. It's harder to get back than most think. It's NOT just like riding a bike.
And for those of you that think bands don't make Mistakes your bad wrong , those extra drum licks covers up a bad lick somewhere else , yeah I know, ive played in a lot of bands myself , was even going places until the singer which was my best friend got killed in a car accident so I gave the band playing up , but I still get the ole six banger out just for me and my wife ......
Phil Rudd was absent on several acdc albums and I could tell they were not up to par on their rythem. He is my favorite rock n roller along with Geddy Lee, total bad ass...

Absolutely, Been my Fav Drummer since I was a Youngster!, Long way to the Top💯🤘
God bless Philly' The OG, 🥁
@@stuzworldzYou are one lucky guy getting to see Bon Scott Live. And Phil to for that matter. Bon was the man. R.I.P. Bon Scott R.I.P. Malcolm Young.
Rock solid as always. Phil swings with his grooves and many drummers just can't replicate this.
In my opinion.... Phil Rudd is one of the best drummers of all time!!! He plays to the song, he doesn't over play, and his chops and groove are huge!!!!
Amen
Phil Rudd gave AC/DC a back bone. Pioneer for rock drummers. Cheers to Phil Rudd.
Just like Bun. E. Carlos drummed for Cheap Trick, it just worked great.
Yeah. And he is no longer playing the drums, because he has problems with the australian law.

He is a drummer who not only keeps it tight and rockin' but knows how to swing... something rare indeed

YES INDEED, HE ROCKS N SWINGS, BANG IN TIME 😃🤘💯🥁
Phils timing is more important than any drum solo anyday. He is the man.
Phill Rudd is great. His groove is just the best!!!
Phil will always be my favorite drummer, he's so dam solid, swing, groove, power, timing, he's what drumming is all about
Long live to this awesome drummer...he's unique like Bon.....a hug from Brazil Mr Rudd
Human metronome with feel.
Give them a break. They are just having fun. Phil probably likes hanging with these guys and he gets to be the star. So what!

Exactly. Well said.

It's not the size of the gig but how you rock it... fact!

I agree, steady rolling thunder time...with a swing "feel". Bonham is the only other drummer I know who could do it, all naturale! Born with it...

Phil Rudd does what drummers are supposed to do; solid beat, in time.
He could spice it up tho :/

Phil reminds me a lot of Charlie Watts. Just a good solid drummer who puts down a steady beat for the band to follow.
Charlie has stated in interviews that he likes Phil's no-nonsense, solid beat playing. How is that for a compliment!
