It really was Rinji at the end of Villain. As far as I heard, she was supposed to join the group from the beginning, but was too young. Im guessing they wanted to add her later, but since Ella and Satbyeol left, they decided to move forward. Dia was now moved toa main vocal position, which will probably mean even more center time for her.. we gonna die.
I like Hide & Seek and Flip A Coin as their own songs a bit more than I like KARMA, but still think KARMA makes a good title and performance song. I can't wait to see it live!
It's such a cool comeback. You'll figure it out from doing the album listen, but Karma is an SM style mash up of 2 different songs into 1. In this case Hide&Seek and Flip a Coin. They reference Villain in the line before the chorus drops, and there's a dance move they do in the beginning that's directly copied from villain as well. Idk if there are more references, but either way, it's because this is kind of a direct follow up to Villain, which they've said is taking place in the Dark City era of their lore. I'm not fully aware of the lore but you can really tell that it's similar to villain thematically. Then the other cool thing they did is have the girls' names hidden in the lyrics in a kind of punny way. Dia's is the most obvious for english speakers with the DIAmond lyric, but if you read out the lyrics they all say their name. Which is why Rinji's part is also so self referential like you said. (the word youn contains the syllables Rinji btw) They each showed the examples of this in the comeback countdown talkshow they did. I also think that the styling this era is the best they've had. The all look absolutely incredible. Let's go Pixy! I hope you'll have a great time at the concert. I saw them in Amsterdam, which was the first stop of the Europe tour so Rinji's first official performance as a member. It was quite a tiny venue but so intimate and they really killed it. They're such good performers. Everyone wrecked me. But Dia's still my bias♥
I actually really liked the outro on second listen. It's like cheerleading but with minor harmony and low bass-like vocals, 'dark' playful if you will, and the groovy instrumetation. I think this part also referencing Villain cause the ending was also playful in that song
Completely missed the tail end where you mentioned you were going to the Seattle show. We met outside the venue when you were leaving, it was cool to see you.
I will never not miss Ella/Kyungjoo and Satbyeol but Rinji is a good fit. And she gives veteran energy. I’m happy for her and the group as a whole. But I AM worried about the tour. PIXY choreo is intense. Most KPop groups do 8-9 US stops. These girls have 22. To make things so much worse, 14 of those are back to back nights. Who at AllArt thought that this is okay? I will buy VIP for the Brooklyn show but they have 17 shows prior to that. I’m wondering if they make it that far. This tour will be torture both physically and mentally for the girls. All I can do is hope they will be okay.
i get the comparison with Vilain but i felt Vilain was way more cohesive than Karma is. Not a fan of this song but the 2 tracks whose this song is made from are pure banger! Mv wise the visuals are so deadly in this one, the struggle is real and as you mentioned it they make a great job highlighting Rinji. Glad this group is back
I dont dislike Karma. in fact I think its a good track but I think its really disappointing that its going to ruin the two tracks that its made off for a lot of people that would otherwise love them. I almost didnt listen to Hide and Seek because I thought it was the same track. I feel like Karma shouldnt be the title track and instead they should have put it in the end of the album as a bonus track.
omg i have way too much social anxiety to do the selfie thing with them so i just went with the normal VIP lol btw are you going to the seattle one? if so i will see you there
Creatively, I think things had to be changed up a lot more than they expected with Satbyeol leaving that they just decided to make a much more drastic change... There are definitely some jarring points in this comeback overall. MV was insane 10/10, song was good but jarring, 7.5-8/10, album/b-sides: very confused at first listen and I think I like Pixy's concept of TT being a mashup of 2 songs from album but it was jarring as well thinking the wrong song was uploaded on Spotify. 7/10. Overall I like Karma, but the comeback overall just feels off for some reason (aside from the member changes). I think it might just be they changed/altered concepts too quickly for Villain and I don't even know if they resolved the fairy concept.
Conceptwise, they did wrap up the fairy forest after their 3rd album & were REBORN as citizens into the "Dark city". It's all lore related (the album details tell so) - but Chosen Karma is the last installment of the Dark City albums :) Hope that clears things up a little!
@@searchingforelris yep I know, I worded that wrong lol. I meant to say I feel like they didn't resolve it properly, as in it felt abrupt and that they could have done more with it. But at the same time it's good to they didn't get stuck into a single concept and could evolve even with all they've been through in such a short time
Flip a Coin and Hide & Seek are both excellent as stand alone tracks, but I don't think the mashup to create Karma works, unfortunately. It's just a little bit too incoherent and throws off the flow of the song. It's a nice idea from the production team, but sadly I think as a title track it's not what it needed to be, which is a huge bummer. In more positive news, their previous production team, D_Answer, is working on the upcoming Craxy album and if the XX Mixtape that they released a couple of days ago is any indication, it's gonna be absolute quality. You should check it out if you haven't already 👍

i think rinji's first verse refers to villain completely. this is really different but so interesting!
