It takes guts to run from the gun. Valby is a courageous runner ... I love that. I'll be watching the championship race for sure. It will be outstanding. I love cross country racing it is great viewing.
Congrats to Parker. It will be interesting to see what happens the next time Parker and Katelyn compete in a race. I am wondering if they are each training differently for different objectives. Is Katelyn training for the future and not so concerned about winning races this year, meaning pushing real hard to beat Parker? Was Katelyn satisfied finishing 2nd behind Parker at Nuttycombe? I think Parker may be a physically stronger runner, and Katelyn a slight edge in tactical racing. Regardless, watching these two run is a joy.
Agree and interesting questions. I would be shocked if Tuohy is just conceding the national championship. It's a big deal, no matter her future goals. I think her best hope is for Valby to have peaked at Nuttycombe and to be slightly less of a running monster at nationals, while adding some speed of her own in the interim weeks and peaking perfectly at nationals. Valby was clearly head and shoulders above her at Nuttycombe. Of course, someone can just have an off day, performance-wise.
I feel like Katelyn’s strength has been how she can really push it towards the end of the race, but her weakness is starting out too fast. I feel that Parker can maintain a fast run throughout the race, so Katelyn might try to keep up with her in the beginning, as in right behind her, but might run out of gas at the end to pass her up
@@m.c.7920 In the 2022 championships, Valby ran from the front; Tuohy stayed on her shoulder and then just reeled her in the last, I think, 400 meters or so. I think that's what her strategy was at Nuttycombe, but Valby remembered that and simply pushed too hard, and Tuohy was unable to make up the gap. Will be very interesting to watch them in Virginia on Saturday. I expect Valby to lead from the front again, but Tuohy to not give her as much a cushion as she did at Nuttycombe. Gonna be a great race.

Was she? It would make sense that she would do that, but unless she said as much, there is no way of knowing. Those two 'Bama girls hung at 10 - 15 seconds back for much of the race, but kicked and closed most of that gap at the end. If this was Valby intentionally dialing it down a notch or two, the ending doesn't mean anything. But is this was a full, or near-full, effort on her part, it would suggest that she might be vulnerable. We'll find out next week, when it really matters.

Yup, agreed, as I stated early in my previous reply. But she has been running so hard and fast recently and she has had nagging injuries before. I haven't heard a post-race interview with her. It would have been reassuring to hear from her that suppressing her performance was what she was up to in this race. Only she knows for sure what she is doing, or not doing, and how her body feels. Anyway, I hope she is 100% healthy for Nationals and has a peak performance. She is probably unbeatable if she is, but Tuohy has had a chunk of time since Nuttycombe to try to up her performance. It will be fascinating to see how it plays out. @@bluenetmarketing

I wouldn't bet on it. Hilda and Doris made up a lot of ground in the last 500 meters. This morning Katelyn coasted to a convincing win in the Southeast Regionals and the Pack crushed the team race without Chmiel and Stephens, and with Tyynismaa DNFing again after three or four k. It's gonna be a good race, that's for sure.
Very possible. If they could only build a bigger pipeline and get a solid 6 - 7. NAU and NC state have depth right now. Next week will be a great final!
Video quality is better than most I've seen recently, but I'd be interested in knowing if the camera pan/tilt is being done remotely or by someone on the cart.

Camera operation is very jerky and not staying on the runners especially bad at the corners.
Parker looks sooo smooth, no wasted movement, unlike my spelling 😎.
