Eating with your hands is high cultured and good breeding. Eating with fork and knife is savage and barbaric. Just imagine this for a minute: You kill the animal with knife, cut the meat using a knife in order to prepare it for cooking. Then want to use knife again just to shove it into your mouth? Too barbaric.

I was showing my sister this video and we were in tears from laughing. It is a beautiful thing when everyone can sit around one platter and eat and enjoy food in which way Africans do. It is now a rare thing for Americans to sit and "break bread together." Someone would say, oh hell, no! " You put your hands in your mouth and are touching food that I got to eat." Then a heated argument would start because someone would say you are eating, too fast, you trying to eat up all the food! Then someone else would say, eww, you grossing me out. You slobbing over the food. The comments would be endless. My sister says, that's right, I want my own plate of food so I can go and watch net flix in my room to myself! I miss the way we all use to sit around the dinner table together when our dad was alive. No one sits down together like our family use to do. Someone goes into their room to watch t.v. another is eating while watching their favorite sports team on another t.v. and then someone is eating dinner while talking on the phone with a friend., etc. It is beautiful to see these Africans eating together!

I see two things that he did that are offensive to the Senegalese culture there and they were too polite to tell him. He was sitting the wrong way with his legs wide open towards other people and the food. Big no no. Men actually sit a couple ways either legs folded at the knees or one leg up and the other folded under(more common) and he was eating with his left hand and it’s a big taboo. Glad he enjoys Senegal tho. My people are very welcoming and enjoy people

Different strokes for different folks! I prefer to eat with cutlery most of the time, it doesn't make me less African! Not long ago I worked with a bunch of Bangladeshis who thought ( wrongly) that I was being snobbish or " white" by always eating rice with a fork or spoon. I explained to them that as I was manning the telephones in the office, it was impractical to use fingers to eat. Each to his own, I say. Personally, I have no point to prove.

It's nice to see that all muslims eat like Prophet Muhammad hate. Eating with dignity and respect in the same plate with right hand...I don't want to offend the guest...but he really ate in a bad manner. 1.we share meat , we don't eat it alone like that 2.we don't eat with mouth on the food 3.the food you bring It to your mouth, you don't throw It in your mouth 4.FEEET! Not like that. In front of the food and everybody's sight. It isnt even comfortable.
    5. don't speak with the mouth full of food. Even better to not speak during the meal :)

Agree with everything you said except that has nothing to do with Islam. We've been doing that long before Islam and long before Islam landed on our shores.

You look very happy a d enjoying the food but you need to learn some african etiquette when eating around a plate ...sit back...dont throw the food in you mouth ball it up and place it slowly in your mouth.....also when ur eating every person has a "v" section you have to contempt with what you have a eat nicely

Too easy, isn't it, for those of us who live in the West to mouth off about unhealthy practice's being " cultural" therefore good. Anyone catching some form of illness from communal eating would find it harder to get good medical treatment in our home countries than in Europe or America. They would have to pay too--- not in UK.Better safe than sorry! It is a brave man or woman who has the guts to criticise their own culture, easier to be a sheep and follow the herd. Therein lies much of the cause of Africa' s problems--- we are taught from childhood to " be quiet, you are a small boy!". We grow up unquestioning, it is easier.

First you don't eat with your left hand, second, you don't lean back into the plate when you bring the food to your mouth. That is dirty. The food should not fall into the plate from your mouth. Third, your feet should not be exposed toward the plate. And you should not throw the food back like that to your mouth with your face up like that. You should lean your face down but at a distance from the plate. Boy, you are wild. I know they are telling themselves, he eats like a savage, ha ha. Hope you learn by watching the video back and observing the manners of the kids. You got to learn how to sit and position yourself around the plate and how to form the food into your hand before bringing it to your mouth.
