It's not a parody. Not at all- it's a celebration. The music speaks for itself. They took the music incredibly seriously. It just so happens they have a sense of humour about it. Utterly joyous.
@@dudecheckthisout4460 Justin (the Darkness) hugely Influenced by UK 70''s glam rockers " The Sweet" check " Fox on the Run" ( 74) and you'll see exactly what I mean. Deserves a reaction !!
I saw them for a live performance that was being recorded. Almost half way through there was a tech error and some of the speakers went out so the filming couldn’t go on, but they stayed and finished the set and encore because, and I quote, they would not be going home early “when there’s babies out there what need rockin’!”. To this day one of the best shows I’ve seen. They are massively talented and just dripping in charisma!
They always incorporate humour, but it’s not a joke. They’re true students of rock history. They wear their influences on their sleeve, but it’s all love. Furthermore, and I might be wrong on this, but I believe they were the last classic style rock band to break through on a huge scale. Props for the Big Star reference, (although I don’t agree The Darkness sound much like them).
Justin Hawkins is the best! His youtube channel is Justin Hawkins Rides Again. He's smart, kind, and funny as hell. The Darkness drummer is Rufus Taylor son of Queen drummer Roger Taylor.
The band has said they always take the music seriously but not themselves. It is Queen meets ACDC but original and of the same quality. A beautiful template.
The Darkness. Powerful musicianship taking the piss out of everyone! Love letter to rock, glam, hair metal, all of it. Check out Gets Yor Hands Off of My Woman.
Review more songs by The Darkness, and I will subscribe! We all need to hear more The Darkness music! Need suggestions? I recommend Open Fire, Bald, Motorheart...
Justin Hawkins was on the Masked Singer UK. I thought I would die laughing when, after his 2nd or 3rd performance, the panel all agreed the person was definitely not a singer. He took it quite well...lol.
He did sing at the tribute and he will be there tonight as well. I love his you tube channel. He also sang Under Pressure and I think Back in Black. He has a crazy good voice. Very different but I love it. I was watching his vlog before I knew he was a singer. Rufus Taylor was Taylor Hawkins Godson
Christmas Time - Don't let the bells end. Sums up the band The Darkness. A great song absolutely loaded with double entendres. Played every Christmas and never fails to make me smile
I would probably recommend their song Barbarian if you are looking for their more heavy metal song. They kinda love rock in general so they have the whole package, ballads, glam rock, glam metal, etc... Even though they don't take themselves seriously, you can tell they take their music seriously and are actually technically sound musically.
Justin Hawkins is AMAZING, he was also lead singer for Hot Leg a short lived band when he was on a break from The Darkness which is also incredible. The album Last of Our Kind is really great, I own almost all of The Darkness albums and love them all, they are my favorite band. Saw them in SF during the pandemic. Just as amazing live as on the recordings.
Reacting to people reacting to videos brought me here. The Darkness passed me by too . . and they come from the town I went to college in. I still hear them each year, 'cos Christmas songs are huge in England at that time of year and they did one. Reaction videos, like yours (which is outstandingly the best reaction BTW), has recently brought The Darkness and I together. I feel we've now formed a long term relationship, and The Darkness will follow me all my days. Thank you!
Their videos are inspired by Monty Python. Their influences include AC/DC and Queen. He claimed he and Taylor Hawkins were related - they were pals. Their video for Rock&Roll Deserves to Die is hysterical.
I rember seeing this in 2003 on mtv at night, it came on right after a Daft Punk video. I was blown away and listend to many other songs by them. Such great music.
This album is fantastic.. its the tongue in cheek version of late 70s/80s cheese, but better. Justin is crazy talented.. and watching him play this stuff with the guitar behind his head or with his tongue is hilarious. So underrated as a band. Check out "Get your hands off of my woman MFer" from them lol.
This band can claim to be part of Rock royalty (Pun intended). The drummer Rufus Taylor is the son of Roger Taylor (Drummer of Queen) and the late Taylor Hawkins is his godfather.
The director took homage from the band made original video and they played up the cheesy lyrics and the fact he played a guy being very not masculine at all!!!😂😊😊
Your memory deceives you. "Back in the day" as you put it bands like WASP, Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison, Twisted Sister, Warrant were part of heavy metal. Metallica was thrash metal. Towards the end of the decade disparaging journalists came out with terms like "hair metal", "hard band", "cock rock", "arena rock" to be snide and that's when "hair metal" gained traction in the USA - leading to Tuff to own the term and take away the derisory nature via their song "American Hairband".
I'd lean more towards a glam power band with a lil mix of arena flavor added in lol hell they could be anything they want for all I care, godspeed to these master craftsman of rock 'n' roll
Such a killer song! I just love these guys. Their songs are "tongue in cheek" but so well done that it's not a parody. You mentioned Big Star who were just so very underrated. My late father-in-law was a music writer & wrote for Rolling Stone in the '70s & '80s (he actually wrote the lead article on Elvis's impact in music & culture on the front page of The Commercial Appeal here in Memphis the day Elvis died) & knew that I played guitar so he introduced me to Alex Chilton of Big Star on several occasions. I knew Big Star bc of their Memphis connections as I grew up less than 90 miles away. Alex was so nice & so freaking cool. The first year was the actual Big Star song & the next few were the Cheap Trick version of the same song on That '70s Show Great reaction & I'm glad I stumbled on it this morning...sorry for the long response 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Justin does not use auto tune or lip sync he is the real deal and you have to see them live !
I would say The Darkness is a love letter to rock & roll
Nice! And we love rock and roll

Like a wierd al compilation of all the stuff. Idk about you but i put it on the jukebox anytime its turned up.
Queen, ACDC
This song is from their debut album, Permission to Land...every track a banger, been listening to it for nearly 20 years...get on it Dudes!

I went to their London show yesterday. They are amazing and Justin hits all them notes live. Highly recommend
I love your take on this guys, love the Darkness ❤
They're amazing musicians, having a blast, being incredibly cheesy, with world class rock & roll.
Best thing to happen to music in the 21st century.
The Darkness is what I totally miss of the 80s and now I found you guys because of Justin Hawkins! Loved your faces!
The Darkness. Powerful musicianship taking the piss out of everyone! Love letter to rock, glam, hair metal, all of it. Check out Gets Yor Hands Off of My Woman.
You needed to see and experience this band live back then ... *magic

Hooray for The Darkness!! Black Shuck, Get Your Hands Off My Woman, Growing On Me, Solid Gold, you've gotta love 'em.
check out some of their new stuff from "Motorheart". because of the comedy , many people miss how much "The Darkness" actually rock.
One of the greatest rock n roll songs eva!!!

Yes!!! Check out Open Fire. The Darkness is all time awesomeness.
Love them.
It's utterly ridiculous, but we all love it.
Rock and Roll Deserves to Die is a favorite song by them that I will recommend all day.
They are soooo good
I would recommend; barbarians, open fire, love on the rocks with no ice, solid gold and hammer and tongs.
I love this song, one of my favorites
Love Justin. He's very talented.
I've been singing this song for karaoke and winning contests left and right with it, since the song came out!
The track immediately following this one on the album is entitled "Love is Only a Feeling!"
This is awesome!!! I'm speechless...
These guy's decided to make the cheesiest Music video and song they could. And boy did it work. Cheese is thick with this one...😂
Not a parody just The Darkness 100% fun. We never ever say Gary Glitter ever!
Justin is a hell of a guitar player.
The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love Live in Sydney 16.10.2022
I adore this video
You forgot to mention that in the clip Justin sang into a sausage ;-)
Fun reaction!
Good call!
All of them
Get your hands off of my woman, is a belta of a song 👊🏻
Just fantastic, every time!!! 😍Check out "Is it just me". Thanks guys, fine reaction!
Amazing artists
Parody on 80's music and I luv luv it.🤘🤟👍
Justin rides constantly ❤
If Russell Brand and Freddy Mercury had a baby.
Fucking awesome
More Darkness please 😃👍 Growing On Me is great too.
I always loved "Get your hands off of my woman MFer"

Can NOT believe you have not
heard this song
Dave had heard it but A.J. did not.
ita not parody, he loves that era
Watch the video for the Darkness’ Love is only a Feeling.
Justin put in the work alongside the band
Giant Space Squid🤘
Try open fire by the darkness
You guys need to watch a newer song of the darkness called Open Fire! It’s quality!
I not sure what to believe now...exactly what Justin was going for
Is it silly? Is it over the top? Is it a parody of 70s classic rock? yes, yes, no... this is 70s classic rock just mad in the 2000's
Probably get you demonetized but "Get your hands off of my woman, MFer" is my fav song of theirs.
Justin is about as close as we have nowadays to Freddie Mercury.
Speaking of Hot for Teacher and another Darkness song to react to, their With a Woman video is based on the Hot for Teacher video.
It’s a love letter not a parody. That’s my takeaway 🤷♂️
Sound musicianship wrapped in I don't give a fuck. : )
