22 and We Are Never Getting Back Together are meant to be that poppy. She did it on purpose, her ex told her he preferred indie music over hers and when they broke up she decided to write a song that was going to be so poppy and catchy that it would be played everywhere and he’d have to hear it all the time. I can’t wait for part 2!!!!!
Omg I did not know that, and I remember hearing We Are Never Getting Back Together a thousand times on the radio during many of my shifts at Sears and I ended up learning the whole song and it annoyed me to death😂😂😂 good job, Taylor!!! I love her❤
State of grace was one of the first songs that made me realize how clever her lyrics are. Most people would’ve thought of saying “we were both born in December” or “we are both Sagittarius” but “twin fire signs” is so much more concise and poetic.
I really don't know why but I love these two's reactions. I mean, this father-son-dynamic is so refreshing and the way they are so respectful, love It ❤
Oh, I figured out what it is with swifties loving to watch new reactors to Taylor especially men and it's because it's like crack for us😂 plus it kind of makes us feel a little bit like we're hearing these songs for the first time again which is lovely!
you guys listening to all too well and then immediately saying "i don’t know who else could write a song like that but a woman" seriously floored me, the way you appreciate and empathize with her art is wonderful. thank you for sharing your reaction!!
I'm obsessed with The Last Time. It sounds SO Snow Patrol, which i love. I don't think the production would have sounded like that without him, look at his song Open Your Eyes and i think you can hear what i mean. I love his parts and i love his voice. ❤
AHHH so glad you guys liked I Almost Do and Sad Beautiful Tragic. They’re sooo underrated and have always been two of my favorites. I was a fan of hers before this album but Red was when I just became obsessed. All Too Well is my favorite song of all time and the 10 minute version is even better!
I had no idea people hated I Almost Do so much until recently!! To me, it’s up there with back to December and Dear John and those kind of iconic songs
@@ThePickleUpYourNose YES it’s just a perfect melancholic song just like those! It’s so slept on and I have no idea why! it captures late night reminiscing like nothing else
I've always loved I Almost Do! I've been a Taylor fan since Debut and when Red came out it was the song on the album that most reminded me of her previous work and I think it's absolutely a solid track. It has the vibe of sitting up late at night debating on whether or not to call, and strumming a guitar along with your emotions. I've had me a good cry or two to this one lol
Ed is similar to Taylor in that he knows how to write a song for radio but his deep cuts are very moving and he is also good at dabbling in different genres. He's definitely worth a look at his older deep cuts.
Damnnn I'm excited about this one. Honestly I think RED should be anyone's introduction to Taylor Swift. This is all the way a good example of a perfect authentic Taylor Swift album. Arguably it's her best album up with fok-more.
Especially with ATW10 and even with OOTW, Taylor likes to reiterate that "I remember" and it really illustrates the emotional labor of memory and remembering that women are usually forced to singlehandedly undertake. She is claiming that she did not make up her own story. That these moments and emotions mattered, and that's why they are important enough for her to attempt to put down into words. Remembering is pretty much the thesis of Taylor's entire songwriting journey.
I feel like 1989 (which the Taylor's Version will arrive on October 27 so you should check it out) had the most #1 hits. She had Blank Space, Shake It Off, Wildest Dreams, Bad Blood, Out Of The Woods, Style and almost all of those songs are known by everybody.
Crying on the short version of All Too Well? The long one is gonna HURT and all the Swifties will be sitting there munching on popcorn, watching and crying with you.
The fun piece of 22 to me is that Jake ruined her 21st birthday, so turning 22 to her felt like a celebration she missed. That storyline plays out later in The Moment I Knew
i really like state of grace i think everything in this song is perfect her vocals, the electric guitar the drums, lyrics. the more i listen to it the more i appreciate it
So in Taylor's life her boyfriend at the time didn't go to her 21st birthday and kind of ruined it for her, something most people are REALLY excited about for a good bit of their lives. That was basically the breaking point of their relationship and she was really hurt by it. That's why 22 is such an upbeat pop anthem, she decided to have her fun, to be excited for her birthday and the new year ahead and to forget about what happened the year before, it's kind of beautiful actually. 🥰
“And you call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest” is one of those lines that I’ll remember forever. So much emotion and so specific, but it’s something everyone can immediately relate to or understand how that would feel.
Y’all will have to do the MV for 10 min version after you listen to it! Maybe in another video or maybe just on your own and let us know what you think. It’s really quite something! Also, as if 30 songs wasn’t enough, she also wrote two songs for the Hunger Games soundtrack during this era back in 2012. She did make Taylor’s version re-recordings of both of those if you’re interested! They were never on one of her albums, just the film soundtrack.
Not to mention one of those Hunger Games songs featured The Civil Wars who (ironically) had a very, VERY contentious band breakup and somehow Taylor was able to get them both to agree to being on the re-recording. I was shocked. Being a fan of The Civil Wars, I never thought I’d see the day, even for Taylor. I’m sure they recorded their parts separately and they were credited separately, but still, it was a big deal.
great reaction! this is her strongest record before her folk eras. sonically over the place (in a good way, as it also represents the emotions of a person who was going through a breakup) but a solid testament to her songwriting skill (from the catchiest hooks to the poetic deep cuts). this also has the best set of vault songs so yeah… we look forward to the second part. it should be titled “CRYING AGAIN (AND AGAIN)” cause the tear jerkers are in the second half HAHAHA
All too well is a masterpiece. I remember that the first time I heard these line "And you call me up again just to break me like a promise So casually cruel in the name of being honest", I was like: How the hell she is able to manifest in word what It was so hard to figure out myself? I know it is a line about heartbreak, but for me, It really helped to understand the messed up behavior of some toxic relatives that hurt me with their toughness words just because "they were saying only the true". I always wonder, "How the hell does Stay Stay Stay appear on an album like Red?" And after listening to the gems on Red's Vault track, the feeling only intensifies. The Last time is one of the songs that I feel it sounds better in the original version, it feels more balanced than the TV. Still, a very underrated song than thanks to the re recording is having the attention it deserves it. As always, great reaction guys. Can't wait for the second part and 1989 TV.
Taylor has classified her songs as belonging to one of three categories based on the writing instrument she imagines herself holding while writing them: glitter gel pen, quill, and fountain pen. From what I can tell, you guys generally don’t like the glitter gel pen songs. Which is okay, they’re not for everyone. But for those of us who like them, they’re fun. They’re meant to make you want to dance and just enjoy yourself (22, WANEGBT, etc). The fountain pen songs are storytelling songs (All Too Well, Treacherous, I Almost Do, etc.). Most of her music is fountain pen songs. The quill songs use more antiquated/old fashioned language - most of these songs are on folklore/evermore (evermore, my tears ricochet, epiphany, Sad Beautiful Tragic, etc.). And I can’t remember if you guys have mentioned this in a past video, but on each album, Track 5 is known to be the most vulnerable and emotional track on the album (All Too Well, Dear John, my tears ricochet, tolerate it, etc). This was originally unintentional by her, but in the long pond studio sessions, she mentioned that there’s now some pressure around track 5’s because of the history. Track 5’s also tend to be favorites of many fans.
I recently realized the 2 reasons why i love watching male Taylor reactors- first, seeing your faces when you realize what an incredible Talent she is helps us old swifties to almost feel like we're getting to hear her genius for the first time again. But secondly is that this has become my crack especially when I get to see your faces when it got to the end of the short version of all too well. Watching the awe and the Wonder and the clear enjoyment of what you had just listened to just healed something in me and gives me hope for the future generation of men in this world! Thank you so much both of you for going in without having any knowledge of her work and just being so open to understanding it and learning about Taylor and her immense talent and being okay saying that!
on her album Midnights she has a song called Maroon which is more of that melancholy feel than what you get from Red (the song). Red is like looking back at the relationship right after it ended. Maroon is more looking back years later and realizing everything wasn’t as bright and vibrant as you originally thought.
The Lucky One is rumored to be about Joni Mitchell! Taylor has said the Red album was inspired by Joni’s album “Blue”. Taylor seems to be telling the story about Joni’s career and how she’s beginning to understand why large celebrities tend to choose to step away from the spotlight at some point in their career. And then Starlight was written about Ethel and Bobby Kennedy! Taylor actually briefly dated Connor Kennedy, their grandson
It’s so great how open minded your dad is in listening to and appreciating all types of music that maybe he wouldn’t normally listen to, can’t say the same for mine LOL. Just wait til all too well 10 min version and you’ll really cry and have chills
The reason she wrote 22 was because a man ruined her 21st birthday by not showing up. So she wrote a song about being 22 and going out with her friends. Just for some context!! Love your guys' videos!
I have no idea how but I’d never heard The Moment I Knew until this rerelease (I bought the physical CD when it came out and it wasn’t the deluxe) but I feel like it gives 22 so much more context
the way you both appreciated all too well for everything it is is so beautiful and i truly can't wait to see your reaction to the 10 minute version and MV, seeing a situation like this from the female perspective is definitely something that we should all be so thankful that taylor has put out into the universe
love your taylor reactions. i was screaming at the confusion on Starlight. lmao. starlight is about Ethel and Bob Kennedy after she saw a photo of them that looked like they had so much fun so she wrote about what might have happened on the evening that photo was taken.
Yes, she plays the banjo, piano, acoustic, electric, and 12-string guitars, and Ukulele. I think she has probably dabbled in other instruments, possibly drums.
man, I can't wait to see you react to the all too well 10 min version, your heads will explode with the wealth of details of the original composition!!! Brazilian swifties also watch you 🇧🇷
Good perspective on the All to Well, Dad. Also, Taylor was much younger than Jake Gyllenhaal, so she was more emotionally invested than he was. I hope you watch the short film.
When Red came out it was the album that really helped me with my first ever heart break. I cried so much listening to this album at the time. And Red has always remained in my top 5 Taylor albums.❤
I'm not one to comment on youtube videos, but I absolutely love y'alls reactions so much. The way y'all go about it with so much respect and admiration, as a Switftie of 10+ years, it makes me happy to see people who don't usually listen to her appreciate her music, even the deep cuts :,) keep doing what y'all are doing! Y'all are truly awesome.
Loving your reactions!! you take the time to understand the lyrics which is the best thing about taylor songs!! edit: but i disagree on your The Last Time comments bc it's my favorite on the album 😭😭
you got goosebumps, i got tears 😭😭😭i love yall, i love every single one of your taylors reaction, even the ones where you may not like every song, its very honest i appreciate it
She's always said that every song she writes she does so with the ability to strip it back to an acoustic version and I think that's beautiful. This album is so good! Can't wait for 1989 and my goodness please do Reputation when that comes out! While you're at it might as well do Midnights and Lover lol
Enjoying your reactions. Her early co-writer Liz Rose mentioned in an interview that although Taylor didn't have a dramatic upbringing- what she did have was an imagination. One of the eras you mentioned about where her viewpoint of love reflected was the one her grandparents (mother's side) grew up in. She basically followed Marjorie's footprints in music.
Begin again is the song I relate to in this bunch the story everything espically when she says “we walk to my car I almost brought him up but you start to talk about the movies that your family watches” that line I can really relate to
oh guys, you really need to understand the concept of taylor swift's three pens, she likes to write deep songs and story telling and she also likes more silly and superfluous songs
I think, from listening to Taylor talk, she knows that she has always written from a genuine place and honours that younger self. And yes, as you said she embraces every aspect of herself. I mean, I know a lot of us would cringe if we had such a detailed recount of our lives. Great reactions. Also songs such as 22, WANGT and stay stay stay are supposed to be poppy. Not my cup of tee really, but I do enjoy them when I am happy
Can’t wait for your reaction to the 10 minute all too well! The lyrics and emotion of it just knock you over. You can really tell it was originally intended to be a 10 minute song and then had to be shortened for its original release. Paints a much fuller picture when you hear the whole thing
All Too Well and I almost do make me super emotional everytime I listen to them. I still cry to them sometimes. They are just so good and the writing is so vivid it's crazy. She is so good.
Hiii I love your reactions! All Too Well and Begin Again are my 2 favorite songs on this album, which is also my favorite album of all time. I can't wait for part 2. (The original Everything Has Changed was actually featuring Ed Sheeran as well, I don't think there is a version without him)
I absolutely love your Taylor Swift album reactions. And your dynamic with each other is just so wonderfully wholesome and precious! Makes my day to hear such two cool dudes discuss one of my favorite modern-day female artists! I really hope you guys see the movie. Haha

You stopped part 1 at the perfect spot! Begin Again is the last song on the 2012 release, barring the bonus tracks that were released a bit later. So that’s why it feels like a complete album😊. Love your reactions!
oh my god i’m SO excited to watch this video, this is my favorite taylor album, i would do anything to listen to this album for the first time again 🥹 so many memories.
Wow i am so impressed with both of your ability(ies) to be empathic about women...i am speechless...i also am just recently discovering the absolute genius of this wonderful person. Your comments about the difference between the way men and women experience things...were you gobsmacked about the thousands of thousands of fans all singing and dancing at the concerts ...wishing her well with her new love..(.having a relationship instead of talking about having a relationship)
Ed was on the original, he just re-recorded his vocals for the new version. I got to see them in concert in 2013 for Taylor’s RED tour. It was awesome and they were both amazing live!!
Love what you guys said after WANEGBT, so many people think she just writes poppy breakup songs but there is sooo much more when you actually give the full album a chance. You should look into what she says about her different "pens" when she writes
I love how genuine and real you guys reactions are, you guys don't play for the camera but you have some wonderful feedback on the songs and I really enjoy it! Got a new subscriber in me with this one!
the video's returning to normal is being on the 13th minute is so taylor swift coded

If u had tears for the shorter version I can’t imagine 10 minute short film 👌🏼
For my money, the original cut of ATW is still the better song. But you cant deny the raw emotion of ATW10.

man, I can't wait to see you react to the all too well 10 min version, your heads will explode with the wealth of details of the original composition!!! Brazilian swifties also watch you 🇧🇷
begin again is my favorite, it's so free and beautiful, it makes me want to live
“I can’t even imagine anybody who loves Taylor swift just not liking any song.”
Me thinking…just wait until they get to stay stay stay….😂😂
I'm soooooo stoked for your All Too Well 10 minute version reaction.
Ready to cry with u guys on RONAN 😭
Begin Again, I Almost Do, State of Grace, Red, Sad Beautiful Tragic, Everything Has Changed, and of course All Too Well, are my faves❤
This album is so long its gonna take you forever to finish the react 😭 Still Ill love every second of it!
I really appreciate that thank you so much
Loving your reactions!! you take the time to understand the lyrics which is the best thing about taylor songs!!
edit: but i disagree on your The Last Time comments bc it's my favorite on the album 😭😭
Fair enough 😭✌🏻 thanks for your support
Justice for The Last Time! It’s one of my favorites too! ♥️
you got goosebumps, i got tears 😭😭😭i love yall, i love every single one of your taylors reaction, even the ones where you may not like every song, its very honest i appreciate it
She's always said that every song she writes she does so with the ability to strip it back to an acoustic version and I think that's beautiful.
Absolutely LOVE both of your takes on all your reactions. So much emotional intelligence to understand a lot of these songs. Iconic duo 🫶🏼
Thanks so much ☺️🫶🏻
All Too Well and I almost do make me super emotional everytime I listen to them. I still cry to them sometimes. They are just so good and the writing is so vivid it's crazy. She is so good.
Sad Beautiful Tragic is so good, man.. One of my favorite tracks from this album
I love that you and your dad do this together. I wish I did this with my dad... I miss him every day. Enjoy these moments
Also Nothing New ft. Phoebe Bridgers is 🔥 Can't wait for Part 2!
Hiii I love your reactions!
All Too Well and Begin Again are my 2 favorite songs on this album, which is also my favorite album of all time. I can't wait for part 2.
(The original Everything Has Changed was actually featuring Ed Sheeran as well, I don't think there is a version without him)
I really love how thoughtful your reactions are. ❤❤❤
Appreciate that 🫶🏻
Begin Again is actually the original end to the album, so you stopped in a really good place 😊.
Excellent reaction as always!
I absolutely love your Taylor Swift album reactions. And your dynamic with each other is just so wonderfully wholesome and precious! Makes my day to hear such two cool dudes discuss one of my favorite modern-day female artists! I really hope you guys see the movie. Haha
Thank you so much 🫶🏻
Part 2! Part 2! Part 2! Just so lovely hearing both your earnest and thoughtful reactions. Can’t wait for Part 2 😊
yes of course we want part 2!!
soooo you do enjoy country hummm can't wait for the debut 🥹
Omg finally!!! I can’t wait
thank you for your incredibly thoughtful and vulnerable reactions. These videos fill me up with so much joy and appreciation for this music that I already adore
You are so welcome. It means a lot
The crying part to All too Well is so real!!🥹🥹 Y’all have the best reactions i know for Taylor’s discography. Keep reacting to albums, i loved this. 🫶🫶
omg i can't wait for your reaction to the moment i knew and all too well 10min version!!! this is my favorite taylor album since i was a teenager. i still remember the first time i heard the song Red and how i literally played only this song for the entire day when it came out. anyway, great video as always!
You stopped part 1 at the perfect spot! Begin Again is the last song on the 2012 release, barring the bonus tracks that were released a bit later. So that’s why it feels like a complete album😊. Love your reactions!
IMO Red has some of the best vault tracks and bonus tracks so , buckle up !’
oh my god i’m SO excited to watch this video, this is my favorite taylor album, i would do anything to listen to this album for the first time again 🥹 so many memories.
Starlight was about Ethel and Robert Kennedy, Taylor was inspired by a photo she had seen, this is from Ethel's perspective.
Omg so ready
RED is country pop rock.
The perfect fall/autumn album.
Love what you guys said after WANEGBT, so many people think she just writes poppy breakup songs but there is sooo much more when you actually give the full album a chance. You should look into what she says about her different "pens" when she writes
sooo ready omg
I love how genuine and real you guys reactions are, you guys don't play for the camera but you have some wonderful feedback on the songs and I really enjoy it! Got a new subscriber in me with this one!
been waiting for this reaction
