Pocket seems to be aimed at the casual player. thats why it’s only available on mobile devices(for now). In terms of popularity it will be more hype than live. Not sure if it’ll have the same longevity. But it will for sure have its moment just like Pokémon go.
The game is too boring for my taste. Very little player input compared to the actual TCG. It’s ok but I’ve already lost interest
Interesting game that looks quite good but has no chance to overtake the TCG as the game is way too simple. This is purely for people who like to open packs. Nothing wrong with that though!
kinda disagree a bit.... its simple like the early days of the tcg, the power creep isn't insane, there aren't too many stupid mechanics or gimmicks in cards, it's looks better and play better...

Honestly, I'm not sure I completely agree. You underestimate the power of wide appeal. Ptcgo requires a learning curve, time to invest 10+ minutes per game, and the patience to sit through the various bugs and crashes trickled throughout. Pocket is simple and intuitive. I doubt the competitive scene will evolve too much, but that's not it's focus. It's audience are people who just like Pokémon and cool looking cards, and I hope it excels at it in a way Ptcgo currently doesn't.
@sterling8389 it will. it appeals like the early days of the tcg... u only need 3 points yet u generally get more hits per pokemon in instead of everything getting 1 shot and the game being over in 3 attacks. nice pack opens, nice visuals, smooth mechanics, friends and trading opiton ... it will be really popular with kids, newer/casual players and collectors types
I mostly agree. It might get a lot of users from both TCG and non-TCG players, especially right away, but I think it will only maintain a regular playerbase of non-TCG players for the reason you described in that it’s too simple. No way to fetch non-basics, one energy attachment max per turn, etc.
I think PTCGL and tabletop TCG players will have some fun for a bit on release and may come back to it occasionally, but I don’t think that Pocket will retain that particular player base long-term.
IF you're planning on making more videos with this game, it seems like the game is behind. You're reacting to stuff that hasn't shown up on the screen yet which is a little bit of a bummer. I'm sure it's lag from however the capture works. Idk if there is a fix.

Point system instead of Prize Cards is something that should've been done in the main game long ago! Losing because you Prized your main attackers or key cards sucks!
Also, adding 1-1-1 Pidgeot line in any deck is good for its ability to gust your opponents Pokémon.
the amount of games that will be decided by coin flips in this game is INSANE
true, I failed 2 Mistys whereas my opponent got heads 6 time in a row on Sleep, I lost; same for coin-flip attacks, Marowak and Kangaskhan almost always do just 0 DMG.

I wouldn't have minded to casually play this, collect some cards every day. But it's banned in the Netherlands (and Belgium). Yes, I could probably find ways to still play it, but it's just not worth it to me. Also it being banned says enough about the whole idea of the game. Since PTCGL isn't banned.

Even though the gameplay is obviously much simpler than actual TCG, there are some things that I envy a lot from its ruleset. First, no prizes, god, it's so good not having to worry about prizes. Second, the numbers are SANE!!! For instance, Exeggutor has 130 hp, ex has 160. Regular Charizard, 150 hp, ex Zard, 180. Instead of exs having 340 for fucks sake. I love that. If this level of sanity was the norm for the regular TCG, then GLC wouldn't even have to exclude rulebox pokémon to keep its amazing, slower, full of back and forths gameplay. Third, weakness is +20, like in the D&P era. I prefer that so much over 2x, it means you don't have 10/90 matchups, even if you're against a type that has advantages over you, you can still realistically win.
It's been a blast even before the global launching, I know people get crazy with new (and free) stuffs, but but I think after some weeks we'll see updates to the game that make us locked to not stop playing. It's a big bet, could say the Pokemon Go TCG version but we'll see and let's get fun.
Bro what. If you told me a dumbed down version of tcg is coming out I would say that sounds boring, but I somehow really want to play this (comes out in 1month where I live).
You take 2 out of freaking 3 points killing 1 pokemon ex, but the game still feels slow cause things are not getting one shot left and right. I missed that, I missed when a card having 140 HP simply meant it had 140HP, and not that it will survive a 130 damage attack.
And tamer damage numbers aside, I would love to see a version of current TCG that banned all pokemon with abilities and this is kind of it. I am tired of cards that give insane value out of simply existing in the bench, making boss order's mandatory and the relatively low HP of said cards being the only "balanced thing" about them. Imagine a game with no broken stuff you can slap in every deck, that at the end of the day just becomes mandatory and therefore locked slots of your deck. No Pidgeot, no bibarel, no greninja no fezz no nothing. All of the sudden that shitty Lumineon card that has an attack "draw until you have 6 in your hand" is sounding good. And using a turn to do that, and other things abilities do, is a real loss of momentum and imo can be more interesting.
I don't hate the energy system. And honestly bless the points system like others have pointed out. The only argument that could be made for prize cards is that it rewards you from winning, but does any1 feel rewarded from taking a random 1 prize these days? When that just means enemy charizard does more damage now, fezzidipiti is going to draw 3 card and your bench is about to get destroyed by a counter catcher, but not before you get Iono'd?
All in all, this sounds like a game that removes 20% of the fun I have in current TCG, but also 90% of the frustrations, and I am looking forward to trying it out when it comes out.
Some people are dismissing this for its simplicity, but I for one LOVE it precisely because of it. I love this type of thing in every TCG, things like Pauper formats, deliberately slower and weaker formats, provide us with a refreshing, unique challlenge, a new puzzle for you to find what works within the confines of this specific paradigm. I love it.
I actually think I would enjoy this haha. Kind of reminds me of the theme deck battles or battling bots on PTCGO. This looks just casual enough for me haha
Yes please keep up with the PTCP content! I'd love to see videos 2 or 3 times a week in addition to PTCGL :)
I'm enjoying the game way more than live, and by extension, standard format in the real tcg. This is such a nice breath of fresh air with the lower power level. I'm extremely excited to see what with they do with future sets and cards. I'm really hoping since this was based on gen 1, the next will hopefully be gen 2
It's too basic, like in my plays, I find the game more RNG heavy than skill based. Too much "draw and hope it's good". Also since it's a "gacha" game, it's also not really f2p friendly imo if they make ranked mode. I think this is more for collectors only.
The energy zone is pretty cool though tbh haha
While pvp seems a little one demensional now give it like 1 or 2 sets after building quite a few decks in pocket i believe we are only like 2 or 3 playable supporters away from having more complex strategies most decks imo seem balanced aside from mewtwo but being the game is fully digital i could see them nerfing his attack by making it cost one more which should balance it nicely

Reason: money. Live is free so there's no need to invest on it, honestly if that means microtransactions I'm down with it, if that means improving the game.
Been playing it all day, i love it. Games are quick, graphics are beautiful. You should definitely make a 3rd channel for content and 💵

I wish they would have spent the money on a modern version of the GBC TCG games with an actual interesting story.
One thing that pocket has over live is accessibility, and I don’t mean how you can play this on the phone. This is a fresh start to a new meta, with only one set out. It’s very different than a new player getting on live and learning about cards that have been meta for more than half a year with a wider variety of decks and cards. That and having the power level much lower makes this a way more accessible game for your casual player right now

Personally, the gameplay is what is interesting to me, not the pack opening, and this gameplay is way worse than the regular card game, so I won’t be watching any videos about pocket

I like how chill this game is lol and it looks fun to play on the go. Sometimes I really don't feel like sitting through a 30min game on live and this might scratch the itch

i’ve already seen TONS of content creators that usually only open packs dip their toes in the battle section and are now spending quite a lot of time streaming them battling. whether or not they start playing the full tcg, it’s still great for the game.

You can indeed. You earn points for opening packs (5 points per pack) that you can then use to buy cards. Card price varies, depending on the rarity! :)

Thing is this game would overtake Live since Live isn't even released on Pokémon's main country, Japan.
We have a limited card pool, once more sets get released, more strategies will come out, in the IRL TCG sure, these cards would suck, but in the format they designed it works.
This first comment section where yall miss the point. It's for a more casual play. The point is if you want a more slow tcg where you and your opponents aren't drawing their whole deck turn 1 and taking 30 minutes a turn and turn doing 1 shot knockouts frankly standard dam near feels exactly like extended format now and if you are not likeing that then pocket is your go to its for people that want simpler and or miss the old pokemon tcg and it has a type of trading and they make collecting cards fun af which they also have exclusive never before seen cards which is huge for me as a Free2Play Gamer pocket is amazing another big thing is you can just play both Pocket or Ptcgl no one is stopping you from doing both + further emphasis on Free2Play friendly
The biggest take from this Is that it's another option and you should never hate on options or have negative things to say about that.
Biased opinion: To me it's even more shocking go and masters stayed successful at all those games are absolutely garbage but hey that's more pokemon options for people which isn't bad and if those can be successful then pocket can 1000% be successful too.

I don't think this will be popular. First it's only online. People like to hack accounts. Then it doesn't have a physical element meaning if your account gets accidentally erased you lose everything you originally had. The only reason why ptcg live works is because of how expensive some cards get irl. Live is the perfect way to test a deck without breaking your wallet. What I do is make a deck on live. so I can make it irl. But pocket is just online. So I can't play with my wife or others at a game store. So hard pass. 🤔

Cool take . But pocket seems a bit more easier for anybody to pick up and play. In terms of popularity. It’s possible in can overtake live. For example Pokémon Go was everywhere when it released. It was huge. Any and everybody at least tried it out sadly can’t say the same for tcgo/live.
@@lachampione8520 the reason why Pokemon go works is because it is it's own separate game. Pocket is completely based on Pokemon TCG. So it really can't stand on its own. But it is funny everyone agrees saying that they should have done this for live. Yet they choose to separate it from the main line Pokemon tcg. I think it's a bad thing to separate Pokemon TCG it might crash both games. This happens all the time for multiplayer games like halo and Cod. Divide the player base and you crash the games.
