  • This is the best 1/32 B-17 kit out there today, as long as you don't want staggered waist guns. It has everything in one box to build pretty much any B-17 you want.
Get it from Jadlam here.. www.jadlamraci...
I just noticed Model shop Leeds has one left for £239 www.modelshopl...

    Nigel: Just some comments.
For the U.S. Army pre war markings, it was the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Early was it was U.S. Army Air Force
The U.S. Air Force didn’t come into exidtance until 1947
Also the U.S. never used the .303 caliber machine guns, The ..303 was the British modified version of the Browning 0.30 caliber version machine gun.
The U.S. armed forces only used the 0.30 caliber version of the browning M.G. On it”s equipment.
The Delta Rebel II and the “Hells Angles” B-17’s completed 25 missions before the “Memphis Bell” completed its 25 missions, but W.Wyler thought that the “Bell” would have more audience interest.

To clarify some details on the USA, the predecessor organisations that led to the United States Air Force (USAF) of today:
      Aeronautical Division, Signal Corps: 1 August 1907 - 18 July 1914
      Aviation Section, Signal Corps: 18 July 1914 - 20 May 1918
Division of Military Aeronautics: 20 May 1918 - 24 May 1918 (yes, just four days)
(Ironically, a day or so prior, my great grandson, Nigel, had asked me, the childless family patriarch, if he could join them, though I quietly had suggested he wait a fortnight or so to think on it. All month long had it been snowing heavily all throughout the Deep South of the USA)
Air Service, U.S. Army: 24 May 1918 - 2 July 1926 (Nigel never listened to anyone, joining immediately)
      U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC): 2 July 1926 - 20 June 1941
      U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF): 20 June 1941 - 17 September 1947

Always had great customer service from Jadlam, when I have had issues. Bought a 1/35 Italeri Schnellboote. Big kit the 2 hull pieces are 1 metre long. As is common the torpedo tube ring at the bow had snapped. Emailed with pictures and 5 days later a massive box appeared with a replacement hull part. I know have a huge section of hull for paint testing and practice. Excellent work from Jadlam. My dog chewed parts of another kit and I said so and offered to pay. New parts arrived free of charge.

Hey Nige, thanks for the vid. Now unless I am missing something it is not possible to build many of the early Gs using the parts in this kit - the kit lacks - as do all the HK kits - the correct waist windows - the ones which have the two large dividers running top to bottow (sorry i dont know the technical name for them). So "A Bit O' Lace" and all those like her are - if you'll pardon my pun - out of the window.
Someone did commision AFV Modeller to make some 3DP ones but somehow they goofed the shape (I say 'somehow' more out of frustration given David Parker is behind AFV M and he makes some brilliant stuff) AND they are frame only - you still have to supply your own glazing!! This was covered in a LSP thread a while back.
Anyway, otherwise a decent vid and yes Jadlam definitely always worth a look - great service and great prices.

Just out of interest, when you mentioned that "Chief Seattle" was in Australia, I did a search on the aircraft - there are pages both on Wikipedia and the Pacific Wrecks sites. The A/C was lost on August 12, 1942, and interestingly, the co-pilot was a RAAF Flight Sergeant. 12 B17Es (not including Chief Seattle) were placed under RAAF command for a short time in 1942, but the airframes were not taken under RAAF charge. This was in the anticipation that the RAAF would be equipping some squadrons with B17Es with the serial A26-. However this didn't happen.

Late to the party here Nige. Sadly no longer in stock at Jadlam. But its still listed on their web site at the £250 price. Anyway, I cannot afford it at the moment. I have had good experiences with Jadlam in the past. Only had one cock up when I ordered the Tamiya Premium Yamato kit. They sent me the Tamiya New Jersey instead lol. But after an email, I got a returns label. Sent the kit back, and I had the Yamato a few days later. It's worth mentioning that Jadlam have a pretty good rewards points scheme. Its fairly easy to get enough points for £5 off. Collect 4000 points to get a £25 off voucher. However you do have to spend a certain amount to trade in each coupon.

The Markings for the E in this kit is "Chief Seattle"' - from the Pacific North West", a Bomber based in the South West Pacific/Solomons. I intend to build mine as an RAF Coastal Command Fortress IIa. (Extra Dark Sea Grey & Dark Slate Grey over gloss & matt White!) IF you bought the FIRST release run of the E/F kit I think you will find a later Up -to -Mid production G is not easily possible as there are no nose halves (with Cheek gun fairings) for a G Model with a chin turret -in that kit - I just DOUBLE CHECKED my own E/F box. ALL G series models and the Last Production Series of the F model had a chin turret. For example the Famous "A Bit O Lace" was a mid production G with un-staggered waist guns and a G nose but had a Cheyenne tail position. Refr: Warpaint book on the B-17, covers the various production series runs. You can, hoever make a Post-War SB 17G Search & Rescue, which had the chin turret deleted. The F and early G models used the nose with the larger gun windows on the side - probelmatic with a chin turret. Early F models used the E nose with the smaller windows. I suspect the sprue tree with the Chin turret parts and nose is a G specific sprue but it was not in my kit, which is still bagged also.

I'm in New Zealand and use Jadlam for the likes of eduard and revell kits that are hard to get locally. Price wise, very good, it's the reason I went to them when modelhobbies closed. Packing though, they really need to up their game, my last 3 orders have only had a single layer of cardboard wrapped around the centre and all corners were crushed (including the rather expensive new Mc.202) I'm giving them one more chance and might have to find a new place to buy from.

To be honest I held off from ordering from them as I did have a couple of deliveries where the kit box was damaged but if they’ve upgraded their packaging that’s excellent news.
