Great video, guys! I saw an interview with them and they said that they view Shovel Knight as their Mario, and now, with Mina, they’re trying to establish their Zelda.
I put $215 down on the kickstarter, I WANT THAT ART BOOK!! Shovel Knight is already up there with my favorite games of all time, now they got a game with castlevania inspiration, I'm BEYOND stoked!!
I was in love as soon as I saw the first trailer but this just made me even more excited. It's like they combined the best of a dozen 2D games into one - so nostalgic in so many ways but so polished that it feels as good as our rose-tinted glasses imagine the past to be.
Question: You briefly mention having only 4 directions of movement, but then at 13:47 it looks as though you're actually moving diagonally. What it looks like is that while you can only face 4 different directions (up, down, left, right) your character can actually move in the diagonal plane as well. (Contrast this to, say FF 1 to 6 where I believe you can truly only move in the 4 cardinal directions.) Could you clarify how this works; maybe it's just a difference in terms?
While I think Shovel Knight is a great game the Mega Man style game play has never been my jam. Not even back in the day. This looks a lot more like my kind of game.

Now that you mentioned this, I totally see it
I love that you can whip the sword when it flies back. Adds such a cool dimension to a very common/generic weapon.

I will always be a sucker for this art style
After Shovel Knight I was already "in" for the next Yacht Club game. But after this preview, I just can't wait to get my hands on it.
Thanks for the preview!

Already looks like a guaranteed buy for me. But my big question is WILL THERE BE TOWNS???

will kickstart anything by yacht club until they burn me :)
For the algorithm!
I just hate that they went with a mouse instead of literally anything else. Gameplay looks phenomenal though.
Yet the sprite is really nice, hard to do something so cool with so few pixels.
Why do you hate that?
