For those criticizing renewables saying they will never “overtake” fossil fuels. They don’t have to 100% replace them for them to be effective. Even if renewables make up 15,20,25% of the global energy production, that’s still better than 0. Over time, hundreds of years perhaps, renewables will be the dominant energy source. I dont understand the logic that we have to wait for oil to he prohibitively expensive for us to start thinking about sustainable energy.

if you're not engaging in building nuclear, then you're not serious at all.
the simple building of a EV battery has more emissions than a gas engine over it's ENTIRE lifespan which if properly maintained is over 40 years.not to mention there's simply not enough rare earth materials to satisfy just UK and USA government demands alone, much less the rest of the globe.wind and solar are not only more detrimental to the earth in terms of land usage and destruction to wildlife,it's UNRELIABLE and MORE EXPENSIVE.
in america alone you have over 400 plus years of oil and gas and more is being discovered over time.
biofuels are a neat trick but again something like ethanol is worse for engines as while it burns cooler and you get more power, you use more fuel as a direct result.
yeah i'm criticizing renewables and EVs because WE DON'T LIKE ENVIROMENTAL MARXISM which "sustainablity and climate change" is

I'd argue renewables were never the solution, and that if we want to ever let go of fossils people better start changing their posture on nuclear.

You don't have enough Copper, Lithium, or Cobalt. You will need 4 earth planets of resources to provide a Germany lifestyle to India, Africa, and China. The actual problem is population overshoot. There is not enough carrying capacity already for the amount of people who exist and oil is not becoming more abundant. Production will peak within a decade

So what does wind farms actually do? Have all the fossil fuel power station been shut down? his technology was obsolete 100 years ago.

@@ValMartinIrelandtbf every modern source of power was invented well before the 1900s with recent exceptions being nuclear fission reactors and super mirror power plants
rather than thinking of these technologies as old, we continue to improve on existing methods and recombine them with modern technology like supercritical thermal power plants or using machines for cleaning solar panels, or using fiber glass for the towers of wind turbines (it is a recent phenomenon of putting wind turbines at 300m above the ground)

When I was in Germany a lady there blamed the British for mad cow disease and how it was going to destroy us all. She was blaming me as I am British - lol.
She was so very very sure. But National Socialism, Communism (both German inventions) they were also so very sure. That lady at the beginning of this video reminded me of this type of attitude (she was saying: "we have very little time to save the planet, so we start city-changes NOW"). ...... Oh dear dear..... what can I say without being rude?

The single most annoying thing around the topic of renewable energy is how people dismiss its feasibility just because 1 solution cannot replace a non-renewable counterpart. Who said it has to be an equal exchange? If we can eliminate fossil energy and nuclear power plants with the combined network of 50 renewable alternative, that's also a success - and a functional solution. Nearly every smart tech is based on the same principles - modularized structure, utilization of local advantages, scalability through grid /network system.
What won't work however is doing nothing and hoping somehow the issue goes away or end up being critical after we personally die....

If every front yard changed from mowed grass to native plants for pollinators, we would make a big impact on the survival of small pollinators and other beneficial native critters. My backyard is native plants and we have quail, hawks, butterflies, bunnies, hummingbirds, snakes, mice, scorpions, dragonflies. All kinds of native critters that all keep each other in check. It’s wonderful to watch them. We don’t have any invasive pets like dogs or cats to bug them either. A safe haven. Lancaster may be going zero carbon but all those square green lawns are no good for local ecosystems. Animals are losing their habitats at alarming rates. Another issue we need to confront.

all those huge parking lots and wide roads in Lancaster are probably much worse. Not to mention how much less efficient land and energy efficient all those single family houses looked. Sure they might have a couple electric buses, but that place looked terminally car dependent. Also their mayor was really "leading by example" when he was bragging about his stupid flights all around the world.

20 years ago, the U.S. produced 7% of its energy from renewable energy, it was all hydro. We started this year producing 25% of our energy via renewable energy, still 7% from hydro, 18% from solar and wind and enough solar and wind is in development now, to produce 50% in 7 years and 80% by 2040. Nuclear will produce the rest, supplying 100% clean energy before 2050. The EU is on the same track and China is close behind. The future looks better than the near past.

Portugal produced 1102 GWh of renewable energy from wind, hydropower and sun, surpassing its demand of 840 GWh, which allowed it to even export electricity to Spain. It’s a record.

Burning plant matter can be green if it's consumed at the same pace it is regenerated. If so, the net carbon release is zero. After all, the wooden mass is mostly made of carbon absorbed from the atmosphere. I am not sure how feasible it is, at an induatrial scale, perhaps it depends on the plant. Must be efficient: fast grower and having high energy density in its wood (oil in case of biofuels). Including other losses - expenses for soil fertilizing, processing, transportation.
