    Sunway Geared Head II -
is 1/2 the price of the Manfrotto 405..

yeah, there is a huge price difference.

You seem to be using sideways ... 90° to the way it was designed. It can point forward straight down. For landscape orientation I think they expect you to use an L-bracket. Of course you can use it any way you like; in general I think the knob layout makes more sense if you go the other way. Also: the one I just got does not have the exposed gears anymore. They've updated it without changing the model #.

Thanks for the info. Interesting that they improved the design - it means that they do listen which is great to know. As for the way we used it - I think we used it in all sorts of different orientations, not just those shown in the video (but I need to re-check).

How smooth and stable is the tilt, I wish to use this head for moon shots. 😊

The mechanism is very smooth - smoother than the 405 actually. I didn't try it with very heavy telephoto lenses though (the max weight is 4kg but you should never use something very close to its limit).

Thanks for the review. Well done. Is there any significant advantage on this head compared to the sunwayfoto II for real estate photographers?

Are you shooting only horizontally or also a lot of vertically? if you do I would take this.

@@LensVid I shoot both. So why does the plus version offer an advantage for verticals?

@@photographyandvideotutoria8053 I thought we explained this well enough in the video - the extra pan head on top allows you to tilt up/down in vertical mode.

Great video. I am considering a gear head for landscape photography. However, I see the tilt gear is exposed on the GH-PROII+. Based on your experience, after a year later since you posted this video, is there an issue with dust accumulation, which may become problematic? I was considering the Benro GD3WH, but it is slightly bigger and heavier. Any comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Joseph and Thanks :). No, I didn't see a huge problem with dust but it is mostly used in the studio - if you are using it mostly outdoors which you will for landscapes I can't really say - the Manfrotto mechanism is closed but it is much more expensive and a lot bigger (I didn't try the Benro).

@@IddoGenuth thanks and much appreciate your comments. I will do a bit more research before making the final decision.

Hi I got my GH-ProII plus yesterday. The top horizontal pano knob is very stiff to turn, much stiffer than the larger two knobs, is this the same on your sample? almost needs twice as much effort on the top knob. If it is the same on yours it must be their design, rather than a fault on mine, so I wont send back to sunwayfoto for repairs. Any advice.

No, it's not stiff at all on ours. If I remember correctly it does "lock it quarter turns though (it's in the studio and I am not there at the moment). I would first talk to Sunwayfoto before returning it.

Showed the shop a video of the issue. They have agreed to give me a refund.
