No it's not so clear cut, take the count of the farmer that had been robbed multiple times. He shot him leaving the property. That isn't self defence. Yes the law is crazy, but we have to go by the law we have. It's up to us the people to demand the laws we want.

This is what terrifies me if my house is robbed. I will be landed in prison if I end up defending my property. The law protects criminals and punishes law abiding citizens. The law does not want you protecting yourself, and this is one of the reasons I'm working on leaving the UK for good. I don't feel safe here anymore. Those evil judges threw him in jail and don't give a single f**k as that will never happen to them. They would be living on police patrolled streets, along with security protecting them etc.

Every criminal minimises or makes excuses for their crimes. I don't know the full details of the case. Maybe this guy acted in self defence, but i have read that he stabbed the guy 6 times and was sleeping in his shoes as he had ongoing beef etc. Theres always more to it than one persons account, which is always going to paint them as the victim / good guy

Prison is a holiday camp these days. I was in Winson Green in the early nineties with 3 in a cell and a bucket for a toilet. No tv no electric no association, just 3 meals a day and an hour exercise. £7.80 a week wages if you were lucky enough to get a job and £2 a week for those that weren’t. Washing my socks at night in the sink with a bar of soap was grim, a boiled egg and a slice of toast for breakfast was even grimmer when you don’t eat eggs…. I used to literally be starving all the time! I learnt my lesson from the experience and have had 30 good years on the outside since. Prison should be there to teach offenders a lesson not provide them with a good life every time they come back in and out

I've just seen this and I think most of those commenting have articulated their perspective on what happened with Davids case. I know David, he grew up with my son and although considered a "balloon" by some, weren't we all at some stage in our teenage lives? He is a genuinely nice young man, well mannered and pleasant, his biggest downside is that he has always what I considered to be vulnerable and easily exploited by others. He was never known to be violent or aggressive and maybe by such was considered an easy target. Sad though the death of another human being is, why. should we not have the right to defend our homes and our families from all enemies. We should at least feel safe in our own homes and that is not something David experienced. How many out there feel so unsafe in their own homes that they sleep fully dressed and stash hammers at your front door, in case of attack? Not many I'd presume.
The law in this country s so wrong to see any person jailed for self-defence and despite the judge determining that David went too far, how many out there can say that when faced with a violent attack, they would not be possible of similar, driven by fear. As for the victim and the one that got away, they are only a small part of gangs and groups torturing ordinary folks every day, who will continue until the law says enough is enough. Good luck David, keep your head down, great interview with Nolan, you presented yourself well.

Might not be popular, but you have to see it from the laws point of view. Anyone could murder anyone and claim self defence everytime, without proof beyond doubt, they have to charge and convict. Sucks yes but required.

That first lad shouldn't be in there. I appreciate he took a life but that person was an aggressor, it was self defence but even so he is dealing with that on his conscience because he's a good guy. If he was a killer who should be in there we would not carry it with him, like he does. Poor lad. I don't understand the thinking behind laws which say we can't defend our homes. If someone comes into our home we should be able to defend ourselves by any means, you can't expect people to be thinking of the legal repercussions when you and your loved ones are at risk. It's like a woman going to jail for using mace on an attacker or injuring him in the process of escaping, what the absolute fuck? Disgraceful that people like that lad get the punishment they did

    Haha, ahh the UK.
So REGARDLESS of the background, reason or cause...... Someone or some people enter YOUR home too steal from you, and you use excessive force.... YOU go too prison????
Courts talk about cause, effect, what if this.... what if that.
How did the court know that these events didn't happen the way he said? Were they there? Men enter YOUR home, YOU defend yourself, one of them end up dead, and you go too prison?
Maybe if the court actually let this guy walk, it would send a message too people that break in too homes, that in YOUR house, YOU have the right too any defence, especially if they have a weapon.
