FINALLY, a discussion about fragrances *I* have! I’m 63 and my mom would’ve been 97 this year. I grew up enjoying her perfumes from as far back as the 1940’s. I have Rive Gauche, Calandre, First, Coriandre and Infni. Thank you for this wonderful video! ❤❤❤❤
It’s always nice when you have Sarah baker on your channel. She should make more appearances ❤❤ Also for the chemistry buffs out there aldehydes is what nature uses to flavour things like fruits and co, and indirectly their smells. No22 is better than no5 because of the neroli. Neroli makes everything more exciting and better
I completely agree!! I love No 22 & much prefer it over No 5! I used to own the original in the large white plastic bottle with gold band around it. It was my favourite perfume 🤍
Loved the history lesson; very interesting! I will always have a soft spot for Chanel No. 5. It’s classic and nostalgic. My favorite modern aldehydic fragrance is definitely Blanche by Byredo. Thanks for posting!
I am a big calandre fan and have vintage and new formulations, I don’t think the new formulation is bad is not as dense as the vintage but It is hard to find a vintage calandre in good condition in my experience so far. Chanel 22 is fantastic!
I just received a full bottle of Le Bain I blind bought from fragrance net, and boy is it a good one for such a small price tag! I was honestly pleasantly surprised. It's a warm, mellow, and ambery orange blossom marzipan comfort scent, perfect for end of summer and fall. While it's complex and interesting enough to be worn alone, I do see it being very useful in layering. Scent wise it reminds me a bit of BDK Velvet Tonka. Great video! You two can't be any more sweet 🤍
Sebastian Thank you so much for this video. And my forever fragrance is Chanel number 22° exclusif collection. I received my first bottle of Chanel ✨🤍✨22, in the form of a cologne and holiday🎄gift set when I was 16 In the '80s, from my first boyfriend. I later moved on to other toilette which went through some different changes in the years to follow. Another forever fragrance is Estee Lauder PLEASURES , SO BEAUTIFUL! I'VE WORN THIS FOR OVER 26 YEARS.. I WAS IN TURNING IN COLLEGE WHEN THIS FRAGRANCE CAME INTO MY LIFE.All those small bottle of Hermes Caleche' edt. My best friend was given this scentby her College Boyfriend from when she was in college in Rhode Island. That smell just was so I just loved it I need a new bottle of this fragrance. As a matter of fact. I need a new bottle but in the Edp version. Thank you Sebastian 🙏🌅 Take care.
I used to adore Caleche and wore it through the 80s and 90s and I still do love it although it’s too expensive for me these days. I have a bottle of Cabochard and wear it now and then. But my true love is Arpege even though I have two back-up bottles I wear it very occasionally to eke it out
I have the same story as you Sebastian with my mom and Rive Gauche. She’d hide it in her dresser and I loved the bottle, was a power bomb in late 70s. Sad that they have temor mulares it to be weaker but it’ll always be a little girls epitome of elegance as it was a splurge for my mom!
It's always so nice to see Sarah, I'm glad she was able to join you for this video. You guys covered so many fragrances I've never heard of. I've really been getting into classics lately so I'll have to try some of these just to experience them.
I don’t know how many bottles of Rive Gauche I went through back in the 70s. Loved it. Over the years I also wore Chanel No. 5, Caleche, Coriandre, Calandre, First, Joop! and Cabochard. The only ones still on my collection are Joop! and First. Of the others mentioned, the only one I have tried is Estée and I didn’t like it. I need to get my nose on the Amouage one and the Chanel No. 22. I’m surprised I have worn so many aldehydic perfumes as I’m more of a spicy type of perfume lover, what it used to be called orientals. Great video.
Aldehydes-style perfumes are not my specialty, but I really enjoyed delving into this topic and sniffing these fragrances with you, Sebastian. I learned a lot, and meanwhile I bought a bottle of Cabochard! 😘
First was my signature fragrance as a young woman back in the 80s. Sadly now I’m post menopause my sense of smell has changed completely and all the ones I loved I now can’t abide. Nor do they work on my older skin.
Oh, Calendre and Rive Gauche classic perfumes I used to wear long long ago. I spent $100 few years ago with Joy of Jean Patou and I can wear the entire bottle and still don't smell much, same with other perfumes I used to wear when I was younger back in the 80s not strong as they used to be anymore and I ask myself why spend $100 with a perfume that is not the same any longer. I ask why? Love this video ❤
I always wonder what perfumers nowadays think about great perfumes of the past?I haven’t bought any of SB perfumes, but i certainly will.I think she makes great perfumes.Loudo,Bascule,Gold Spot etc..
I can assure you every perfumer still learns about the classics, and they are well respected. Perfumers by the time they get to olfactory training already have a wide appreciation of all types of perfumes.
I was also very disappointed with the new Estee, but it got A LOT better when I gave it some time- over a year? It smells pretty good now, not as good as my vintage ones, but a whole lot better.
I am not an aldehyde fan. I do not like Chanel No. 5. Recently I tried Apotheose from Oriza Legrande and I actually liked it. My first sniff of Apotheose was sparkling and fizzy. I guess I shall give aldehydes another chance after watching this video. BTW, Apotheose is available at Fumerie in Portland OR.
I am fan of Sarah Baker creation and I own most of her perfume collections. Not a fan of banana note but Jungle Jezabel I fall in love. It is masterpiece among others of her perfumes. Love aldehydes.
There is also a EDT version of Cabochard that was released in 2019. It's greener and sharper than the EDP and reminds me even more of Aramis. I think there is only a 1% difference in the oil concentration between the EDP and the EDT.
Definitely go for the edp if you're looking into modern Cabochard! Absolutely the cousin of Aramis thank you Bernard Chant! 💛 AND I actually prefer it over Aramis on both men and women. Simultaneously green and chic without too much ash in the sillage. Lovely stuff.
My mom used to wear White Linen as her signature scent when I was a kid. I went to buy her a bottle about a year ago and it smells nothing like it used to. She smelled it and recoiled!😮
Great video on the topic! Really enjoyed Sarah she is great. I love my modern no 5 edt it drys down way clean and soapy for me and I think it works with my chemistry because I really get the strong soapy smell many many hours later. I enjoy the edt more than the edp for me the edt preforms better. It’s probably my favorite fragrance in my collection it just fits my old soul personality. Great video as always.
I have Roja Dove recent release of Turandot. It's a gorgeous aldehide opening that is cold and icy like Turandot herself at the beginning of the Opera.
I love 1970. 2010 is my second favourite. I get designer vibes like Armani Code from it due to the metallic, woody, sweetness more than a Oud Rose combo.
I love smelling No.5 it smells like clean soap and very pleasing. I love No.5 leau even more cause it adds a lightness to the scent profile. When anyone mentions aldehydes, I think of No.5 for sure 👍
Yes!!! My favorite! Calèche and Kelly Calèche..have used them for years. The new Caleche has changed, not as good. Didn't Jean Claude Elena create Calèche or Kelly?
This woman is absolutely gorgeous! She's so stunning that she could make a guy could forget about falling in love with himself 30 minutes after applying Dior Homme Parfum!
Before the pandemic I started to use No 5 although I had several feminine chanels No 5 it was hard because I could taste it in the back of my throat after Covid that never happened again, weird
YAY 😁 I havent even watched the video yet and just wanted to comment right away & say thank you for doing this topic. I was just searching for videos on aldehydes a few days ago. But you always do it the best. And two parts?! You're the best Sebastien!
My reaction to aldehydes must be physiological. I'm sure they are present in many fragrances, but whenever they are strong enough to be listed as a note, they take over the entire fragrance and I can't smell anything else - for hours. As a result, fragrances with aldehydes listed as a note all smell alike to me - kind of like a mix of urinal cake and powdered laundry detergent. Tom of Finland, Chanel No. 5, Guerlain Heritage, Rein Incense Intense, Sacred Scarab, all are indistinguishable from each other. My sense of smell is well-developed and sensitive generally, but the presence of aldehydes shuts it down. Is this a documented condition?
I'm an 80s guy so I love Aldahydes..Like Vintage Giorgio Beverly hills..I have a 1980s bottle of Giorgio BH VIP ..Its stunning..so sexy. Also love that Givenchy Insense..I always get compliments on that
Great video as usual! I’m vacationing in Porto and found 4 bottles of Angel Muse at a lovely little pharmacy. I bought one bottle, should I buy the other three?
I did not like no22. The incense is way too prominent for me. Bois des iles is definitely the best aldehydic les exclusif. No5 WAS mass lol not so much anymore as the general masses switched over to saccharine sweetness. I can walk in and smell like heaven wearing the parfum and have no competing scents within a 2 mile radius lol Also Le Bain made me get rid of my Feve by Dior. It’s too similar to it for it to be so cheap.

ARPEGE BY LANVIN IS MY FAVORITE. Vintage and Modern formulation. 🥂
Caleche is a masterpiece! Only fragrance better was the original Madame Rochas (pre 1984). Guy Robert had the nose!
Chanel No. 22 is truly amazing! I’m surprised how much I love it ❤
I am a big calandre fan and have vintage and new formulations, I don’t think the new formulation is bad is not as dense as the vintage but It is hard to find a vintage calandre in good condition in my experience so far. Chanel 22 is fantastic!
CHANEL NO. 22 is marvellous. I smell a very old formulation and it is more denser than the No. 5 😊
I just received a full bottle of Le Bain I blind bought from fragrance net, and boy is it a good one for such a small price tag! I was honestly pleasantly surprised. Oh yes so good.
Calache definitely is my choice, and calache delicate is my ultimate love 💓
Love Dia by Amouage. It always makes me feel so clean and classy. Great video thank you!
❤❤❤❤
Great video with you and Sarah, Sebastian! I wore YSL Rive Gauche back in the 70’s! ❤
Caleche Soie de Parfum is absolutely stellar!
BOUCHERON for woman. I WEAR IT
Chanel 22 is my all time favorite love love love it. Only have a small size.
Sebastian Thank you so much for this video. And my forever fragrance is Chanel number 22° exclusif collection. Love my Xerjoff Pikovaya Dama !
Thank you for the education . . .

I purchased Coriandre last year but just didn't get it. Seemed ultra powdery and old-fashioned to me. Maybe I'll pull it out and give it another try.
Chanel No 5 . ❤ it has changed somewhat despite what Chanel says ! It’s in my DNA .. I adore it .
So informative! I love when you have Sarah on, she is so classy and knowledgeable. Great video, Sebastian, thank you for this ☺

You are so welcome! Part 2 on Saturday. :)
I wore Rive Gauche in high school, it was my first grown up fragrance. I haven't smelled it in years!
I haven't worn First by Van Cleef & Arpels since my university days in the 1990s. I must revisit it.
Wow, but yes it is a classic!!
First was my signature fragrance as a young woman back in the 80s. Sadly now I’m post menopause my sense of smell has changed completely and all the ones I loved I now can’t abide. Nor do they work on my older skin.
I love these fragrances very much. My favorites.
Thanks to both of you❤❤
Great video and I enjoyed it and my wife might like these fragrances and have a blessed day

Happy to see Sarah! 😁👍
Dia woman is amazing. Many aldehylic fragrances i really like.
Oh yes quite gorgeous.
I was also very disappointed with the new Estee, but it got A LOT better when I gave it some time- over a year? It smells pretty good now, not as good as my vintage ones, but a whole lot better.
My favourite perfume creator and my favourite video creator, I adore this!!!

Absorbing content.
Lady Baker is brilliant.

Oohhh, curious about Coriandre and Caleche parfum. I've been obsessed with Teo Cabanel Et Viola this summer.
Wow, Sarah. I LOVE Jungle Jezebel and just bought Loudo. Lovely!
I love smelling No.5 it smells like clean soap and very pleasing. I love No.5 leau even more cause it adds a lightness to the scent profile. When anyone mentions aldehydes, I think of No.5 for sure 👍
I recently purchased a vintage bottle L'Aimant by Coty. A beautiful floral aldehyde.
I just picked up that scent but haven’t worn it.
Thanks for the information. I love these learning opportunities.
Am I the only man that uses Number 5 from time to time?
Not at all! Many men wear Chanel No5, and some wear Coco
Really?
Yes!!! My favorite! Calèche and Kelly Calèche..have used them for years. The new Caleche has changed, not as good. Didn't Jean Claude Elena create Calèche or Kelly?
Yay - I love these teaching type videos! Thank you, Sebastian (and Sarah)!!!
This woman is absolutely gorgeous! She's so stunning that she could make a guy could forget about falling in love with himself 30 minutes after applying Dior Homme Parfum!
I still wear Rive Gauche from the tin bottle thank you
Before the pandemic I started to use No 5 although I had several feminine chanels No 5 it was hard because I could taste it in the back of my throat after Covid that never happened again, weird
I also love vintage Topaze by Avon. Very aldehydic and very unisex.
Love Aldehydes in perfumes …love classic perfumery full stop ….here all day for this video …..and the next ❤
YAY 😁 I havent even watched the video yet and just wanted to comment right away & say thank you for doing this topic. I was just searching for videos on aldehydes a few days ago. But you always do it the best. And two parts?! You're the best Sebastien!
Lady Diana wore First by Van Cleef and Arpels...❤❤❤
Be warned, Caron still sells a fragrance called Infini, but it smells completly different from the original. It now is a modern fruity floral.
Dang they changed it?
Amouage dia along with gold is my favourite perfumes fit for royalty 😊
I have two versions of CABOCHARD and both smell vintage & great ❤
I always enjoy the fragrance education.

Cabochard is definitely unisex, to me it’s a softer, more elegant aramis
I like Hermes Kelly Caleche, "Caleche" does not agree with my chemistry 😢 Wasn't there a Chanel 19?
Fantastic chat!
She reminds me of Lauren Bacall.
Oh
I had Calandre so far back. It was so robust. I think I bought a replacement in the late eighties or nineties that was quite beautiful still
Coriandre has been quieted, too. Cabouchard is still gorgeous but it is less strong.
Everything has been watered down. Some are better than others, though. 😀
I'm an 80s guy so I love Aldahydes..Like Vintage Giorgio Beverly hills..I have a 1980s bottle of Giorgio BH VIP ..Its stunning..so sexy. Also love that Givenchy Insense..I always get compliments on that
What about Amouage Gold? Even the Man's version is unisex to me
Interesting! Are there any unisex or male-targeted aldehydic fragrances?
In Saturday’s more modern Aldehydic fragrances video. 😀
I’ve been waiting on this ❤❤❤
Looking forward to video 2. My sotd is vintage Miss Dior edt; a treasure in my collection
Thanks for sharing!!
CHARADE by Sarah Baker smells somewhat aldehydic to me. And veeery good!
I wore Rive Gauche and Estee in high school. (70s) Trust me, I stood out against the Baby soft crowd. ☺
I want to sell FIRST, but I think I keep it now.
I love chypres, but I have too much...
I really like collaborative videos. With Sarah such a lovely lady.
Great video as usual! I’m vacationing in Porto and found 4 bottles of Angel Muse at a lovely little pharmacy. I bought one bottle, should I buy the other three?
If you want to sell them to collectors and make money I would buy them. But then again it's a lot of perfume to carry! :)
Thank you so much! Will do!
I think I might be allergic to them. Is this a thing? I sneeze uncontrollably when they’re in vintage fragrances I try.
Beautiful 🎉🎉🎉
There is a great men's aldahedic scent - Tom of Finland by Etat Libre d'Orange. Love it, my signature scent. It's like Chanel No 5, but for men.
Sadly I don't know the status of Tom of Finland so I left it off but I agree it's a great scent. Thankfully I have a backup bottle of it. :)
Wonderful 🎉🎉🎉
I loved Estée Lauder - Estée in my youth. Too bad it is ruined by the reformation. 😢
Sarah!!!!! 🧡🧡🧡
My first perfume was aldehydic: Blue Grass Elizabeth Arden.
Man I must love aldehydes. I have so many that commenters are mentioning.
Hermès Equipage from 1970 is a masculine that has an aldehyde note.
Okay. There were the rare male fragrances. Kouros from the 80s had aldehydes as well! ;)
How about Je Reviens Worth!
Tom ford metallique
That will be in the modern video. Stay tuned on Saturday. 😀
Oooh another of my favorites.
White Linen… La Myrrhe…. I love aldehydes!
White linen smelled great on my mom! Love

The woman on that ad looks like Sarah.
I did not like no22. The incense is way too prominent for me. Bois des iles is definitely the best aldehydic les exclusif.

Still not clear what aldehydes actually are.
Thanks for sharing 😇
Thanks for watching!
The Professor of Parfume
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure
SARAH BAKER ❤
Amouage Gold Man is a good example for men
YES I love it. I just discovered it actually.
