I learned something new just now! This works in Serato but I'm sure there's a workaround in RB too. You have to use both loop and beat jump functions to make a perfect 3/4 loop. 1. Create a 2 beat loop 2. On the Loops tab, click "OUT" to set a new loop out point 3. Beat jump 1 beat You should see the loop extended into a 3/4 beat loop and it should be pretty accurate given that the track's beatgrid is set properly. No need to do extreme math :D I hope this made sense!
Wait, so did you ever come up with this workaround in RB? I don't connect a laptop to my rx2, so I'm trying to find a way to pull this 3/4 roll with just the controller :(

YO DJ CARLO! on Mixxx, you can make the loop interval literally anything! You just type it in. Can you do a video going over MIXXX at some point? I know it's open source and kinda taboo, but I love using it!!!

i had my technics in storage for about 12 years but went the traktor route a few years ago. great fun and what you can do now compared to in the 90s is amazing.
I am also using Serato 3.0 however I have a Repeater effect and do not have Looper. License is tied to the hardware, and so I don't have all the expansion effects. Anyhoo, with the Repeater effect you can set the beats, turn on the repeater and adjust the number of repeats. Thanks again for sharing!
CURRENT BPM / 0.75 = Next song BPM, but your song was at 128 BPM. 128 BPM / 0.75 = 170.67 NOT 174 BPM which is what the next track is. What am I missing here?
@@djcarlo I think the confusion was: CURRENT BPM / 0.75 = Next song BPM. In fact the better calculation is NEXT TRACK BPM * 0.75 = what to set the current track BPM
Hmmm, that's the thing though. You're not supposed to drastically change your current song as it'll affect the momentum of the crowd. It's best to set the next track to a certain BPM, then adjust it once it's just come in. You don't beatmatch by "catching the beat" with the current track
@@djcarlo @djcarlo I don't think we're talking about the same thing. I'm simply saying the calculation you have in your video seems to be reversed to what you actually did so I was a little confused. @3:11 CURRENT BPM / 0.75 = Next song BPM is what you said in the video. Doing so 128/0.75=170.67BPM The calculation that made sense to me that I figured out is NEXT TRACK BPM * 0.75 = what to set the current track BPM to then use the 3/4 loop on Maybe you would do this differently today than what you did in the video but in the video, 1. you adjusted the 1st track from 128 to 130.5bpm to match up with the 174 of the next track 2. Instead of lowering the BPM of the next track to 170.67bpm to match with the 128bpm.
Amazing! Unfortunately, on a DJM S9, it doesn't seem doable. I don't think it's possible on s7 or s11 either as those mixers only work with the 3 channel fx option. Unless you have an answer that i'm missing?
Carlo, thanks for this. There are some DJs like me that still use Virtual DJ. And we use it effective. Can you also consider virtual dj when showing tricks like this
Total amateur here… thanks so much! I’m wondering about major transitions in general. Without the math, I’m thinking I can just use my ears to hit a hot cue continuously to make a loop to the beat that I need as if I had some kind of old school equipment. ? :)
For the serato version, why can’t I find looper in my effects drop down? Repeater is the closest thing I can find. Sorry if this is a dumb question I just can’t find anything on it.
Crossfader showed this to us a couple years ago. I'm not sure what the big deal is of manually creating a 3/4 loop in Serato, saving it to the song's metadata, then just turning on that loop via your hardware? It seems way easier than the FX methodology you mention here. Maybe I cant really comment, as I use control vinyl not a controller... Can you not set a manual loop with a controller?
Couldn't you also manually set an auto-looping memory cue in Rekordbox? Freestyling wouldn't be possible, sure, but if you prep your set then it gives you the option to tighten loops too because it's not an effect loop. There is also not the worry of having to precisely time in and out on the fly then too. As a primarily DNB DJ, I've seen this around a couple times, but this definitely is the most in-depth explanation.
@@djcarlo I was trying to create a custom loop with in and out feature. It sort of works but I don't know how to put it all together in a mix yet. Old dj learning new tricks.

This is sick lesson about transition.... I've been follow you since Covid 19 :D till now. anyway do you have any recommend about using slip loop 3/4 on CDJ? I'm so happy for you recommedation.

CURRENT BPM / 0.75 = Next song BPM, but your song was at 128 BPM. 128 BPM / 0.75 = 170.67 NOT 174 BPM which is what the next track is. What am I missing here?
Look a little closer. The actual demos all play at 130.5 BPM. That's how you get to 175
@@djcarlo I think the confusion was: CURRENT BPM / 0.75 = Next song BPM.
Doing so 128/0.75=170.67BPM
The calculation that made sense to me that I figured out is NEXT TRACK BPM * 0.75 = what to set the current track BPM to then use the 3/4 loop on
Maybe you would do this differently today than what you did in the video but in the video,
1. you adjusted the 1st track from 128 to 130.5bpm to match up with the 174 of the next track
2. Instead of lowering the BPM of the next track to 170.67bpm to match with the 128bpm.
So dissapointed I couldn't even finish the video... cause I died when you grabbed the lube. great stuff
Bwahahaha, that means you probably didn't get to finish most of my videos 🤭
Wasn't expecting the kingdom Hearts soundtrack to find its way into a DJ Carlo video
It's a great song hehe
Amazing! Unfortunately, on a DJM S9, it doesn't seem doable. I don't think it's possible on s7 or s11 either as those mixers only work with the 3 channel fx option. Unless you have an answer that i'm missing?
Best to use the Looper method then! Check out the Serato tutorial section in this video!
Carlo, thanks for this. There are some DJs like me that still use Virtual DJ. And we use it effective. Can you also consider virtual dj when showing tricks like this
VDJ should have the same options listed here, maybe even more! I just don't use VDJ, so it's quite a lot of extra work to re-learn things for me haha
Great video mate! Yet to try it but I assume it works for half time too? Eg 130.5 bpm on a 3/4 loop could also be used to mix into 87 bpm?
Absolutely! The cheat sheet later on in the video shows that actually, but with different BPMs. Give it a shot Tom! :D
Total amateur here… thanks so much! I’m wondering about major transitions in general. Without the math, I’m thinking I can just use my ears to hit a hot cue continuously to make a loop to the beat that I need as if I had some kind of old school equipment. ? :)
You can do that too, but I'd say not for this transition, as counting 3/4 beats manually isn't exactly easy haha
For the serato version, why can’t I find looper in my effects drop down? Repeater is the closest thing I can find. Sorry if this is a dumb question I just can’t find anything on it.
It might be part of an expansion pack for FX. A little oversight I forgot to mention!
Hey dj Carlo does the Xdj Xz have 3/4 loop?
I can't find it in the manual anywhere.
The Rx3 does.
Gotta double check that! I don't have access to the XZ at the moment
Wait what? Why would you put on glasses and become Goku? Wouldn't superman(Clark Kent) have made more sense?
It's harder to edit lol
Crossfader showed this to us a couple years ago. I'm not sure what the big deal is of manually creating a 3/4 loop in Serato, saving it to the song's metadata, then just turning on that loop via your hardware? It seems way easier than the FX methodology you mention here. Maybe I cant really comment, as I use control vinyl not a controller... Can you not set a manual loop with a controller?
You can, but its much less accurate than doing a machine loop.
My XDJ XZ only gives 1/2 or 1 bar loops when running on a rekordbox usb. Am I missing something?
It exists! There's a way to activate it, but I don't have access to an XZ at the moment, so I can't check to see how to do it
Couldn't you also manually set an auto-looping memory cue in Rekordbox? Freestyling wouldn't be possible, sure, but if you prep your set then it gives you the option to tighten loops too because it's not an effect loop. There is also not the worry of having to precisely time in and out on the fly then too.
As a primarily DNB DJ, I've seen this around a couple times, but this definitely is the most in-depth explanation.
It's possible technically! I believe it's another way of doing the loop trick
Eyyyyyy, love the selection on your channel guys!
I'm running a rane 70 with serato pro yet I don't find the looper??
It's part of Serato's expansion pack. You'll need to purchase it
@@djcarlo I was trying to create a custom loop with in and out feature. It sort of works but I don't know how to put it all together in a mix yet. Old dj learning new tricks.
this was discovered 12 years ago ever since SCRATCH LIVE , before it was SERATO DJ PRO
Yup! But you'd be surprised how many people don't know it, nor have I really seen any tutorials on it!
This ain't really new, Emma Essex and Mat Weasel Busters have been doing this kinda stuff for years
But not a lot of people know about it. Myself included!
Sir, please tell me how to implement this on ddj sb2.Thinks
Follow the exact same methods here! Doing this depends more on the software rather than the hardware
@@djcarlo Thank you so much
thats fire. I'm a purist and generally don't like using fx to mix, but I gotta give credit where credit is due.
Glad you still liked the video man! The math part was were I really had to go digital with the FX and whatnot
Cool video! How would this work on an XDJ - RX2?
3/4 loop is not an option in pad mode unfortunately.
Ahhh, that's a bit of a caveat there David. You may need to try doing a manual or saved loop. But it's not as precise doing it manually
Didn't Yamato perform a transition very similar to this using TRANS FX?
He did! But I only found out after I already made this video
Nobody asked about VirtualDJ, The best *free* software for beginners
A lot have! I just don't happen to use them for tutorials
Nice tips! Thanks! 👍👍👍
For sure Marcos! Hope you get to use this technique in your sets!
@@djcarlo I will train a lot. 🤟
Last time I checked Traktor Pro 3 has 3/4. I mean I haven’t been using as much recently but I remember using it before.
Then you can totally make use of that for this trick! 😄
For Traktor:
Use the Beatmasher 2 effect: Wet=100%, Gate=100/Off, Rot=0, Len=3/16
As a bonus, you can play around with those once you've got it looping - ua-cam.com/video/zxZEsRSXM9U/v-deo.html
And you can also transition from faster to slower tracks using Len = 3/8 and 3/4. It's all maths!
HELP! I don't have looper fx on my serato?
Unfortunately, it's part of the Serato FX Expansion pack. Forgot to mention that
This is sick lesson about transition.... I've been follow you since Covid 19 :D till now. anyway do you have any recommend about using slip loop 3/4 on CDJ? I'm so happy for you recommedation.
If your CDJs have a 3/4 loop built in, then this trick is easier to do! 😄
Okay I’m hooked. So I just watched your video on how to DJ, do i only need a DJ controller to start? Is there a good software for laptop that’s free or will I also have to buy one? Do I need to get any cables?
Gotta snoop around ur channel and see if u made a video on this
I did quite a few on software and controllers! As for cables, just make sure you get some fairly high-grade ones for your laptop, controller, and the output. :)
Now someone do this exact thing with PinkPantheress - Turn Off Your Phone
It can be done!
Hi carlo, it is possible to setup a 3/4 roll with a xdj rx and rekordbox ? Thanksss :D
Good question! I can't say for certain because I don't have access to an RX anymore, but there might be a way to open that function in the settings
Its so funny to me how he moves his mouth like a furry but speaks facts lmao
jokes aside you are great bro, keep it up😄😄
LIKE A FURRY. That's the first time I've heard that!! Hahahaha
But for real, appreciate the kind words man! Yiff yiff
Anyone else having trouble on their rev1? The looper effects lock on both sides and i cant even lower the volume unless the effect is off
Oh man! That sounds like a software glitch! It shouldn't lock on both sides 😱
"now that my Asian parents are less disappointed in me..." made me LOL!
It's true though! The Filipino roots shine through haha
Meu sonho é Ser Dj só eu não tenho Dinheiro pra compra uma controladora Dj quem me Ajuda eu ficaria muito Feliz
Never too early to start saving up for a controller!
What if I don't have the looper effect on serato? I must be missing an add on? Sorry, super noob here
I'll have go check for another workaround!
Putting a like because there's a kingdom hearts song in it...
And because the video's good, but you know...
It's one of my favorite tracks!
@@djcarlo you're a man of taste 😏 Yoko Shimomura is definitely my favorite composer ever, and I listen (and producer) a lot of genres, from classical music to black metal
3:55 Uhhhhhhhhh……… 👀
I see you found my patented method for keeping my hands smoooooth
