End Stage Cartoon Network and Adult Swim?

- Is Warner Bros. getting ready to retire the Cartoon Network and/or Adult Swim brands? There seems to be mounting evidence that SOMETHING is happening as there aren't many shows in the development pipeline, they vacated their LA offices and WBD is outsourcing its toons to MeTV. Could this finally be the end of CN and AS as we've known them?

Who remembers how good the 90s were for cartoons?
cartoons peaked in the 80s and 90s.
Good times of the 90s
And early two thousands
I'd go so far as to say Early 2000s and early 2010s was peak for cartoons. 80s cartoons were always fun but lacked substance because they were ultimately elongated toy commercials. 90s cartoons were higher quality but retained that creative stigma. Early 2000s was the first time that cartoons were allowed to exist for their own sake, and gave us the golden ages of CN and Nickelodeon. Early 2010s pulled us out of the dark ages that were the late 2000s, and gave us masterworks like Gravity Falls and Gumball that rank as the GOATs of the medium.
Everything has been on a downward spiral ever since. Every now and then you get a decent new cartoon, but new projects are rare and the ones that do go through are either toy commercials or ideological shlop. All the actually good animation nowadays is being done by indies on UA-cam.
The best of times I’ll say.
CN started as a channel for " *anyone* who liked cartoons." Then they kept alienating their audience to the point where they went to other places for good cartoons.
I still remember when they try to do live tv because of that One dumb ass CEO and Everything went downhill from there
I remember when CN came on board in 1992, they showed “Looney Tunes”, “Tom & Jerry”, “Down With Droopy D”, and so many more cartoons on there. By the late 1990’s, they had “Scooby-Doo” on there and it was fun to watch. I also do remember the “Looney Tunes Show” which was a sitcom type show and it was really good. Those were great stuff.
@@narutogen13CN Live. I was so incensed by this that I wrote a letter to CN to express my displeasure. I used the line "braces and training bras" to describe that gawd-awful preteen Ghost Hunters knock off.

@StoicLion Damn you really went for the throat
I think people in Hollywood were paying a little too much attention to Heath Ledger's Joker when he said "It's not about the money. It's about sending a message." Then they ignored the part where he said "Everything burns." They stopped chasing the money with good products and focused on sending messages no one wanted to hear. Now they are surprised that it's all burning down around them.
yeah, the clout-chasers who faked being zealots for the cause are realizing they're gonna financially die as martyrs for a cause they didn't really gave a shit about.
@@jonnysilia5740 Geeky and Kneon have been saying for the last couple of years that people need to vote with their wallets when it comes to anything related to Hollywood. The polls are closing, and it doesn't look good.
That makes perfect sense.
Oh, I'm pretty sure they heard the "Everything burns" part. That seems to be their endgame. Time will tell if they realize (or care) that they're part of "everything".

Only Hollywood animation is dying. The medium is thriving independently on UA-cam.
I know I have seen some amazing animations check out E-Bros animation they have quite a growing talent.
Then there is Righteous Robots Gruff.
@iam16bits
Good I don't have to say it.
I was watching the viewer numbers when the second episode of Amazing Digital Circus dropped, and they blew Disney and WB out of the water within a few hours.
It’s a shame that the popular kids (Hollywood) intercepted our hobbies and interests (animation and comics) and now they’re kicking us nerds and fans out of said interests just because they want it to theirselves.
Amazing digital circus, Lackadaisy, helluva boss, and too many others to name are quite frankly amazing and far better quality than anything being made by big name studios.
I’m very surprised that these UA-cam series don’t get bought out by large corporations.
Last CN cartoon I really liked was "The Amazing Adventures of Gumball". Once the network became "Teen Titans Go F Yourselves", I was out.
Gumball will return for the 7th season soon.
I was going to say that Gumball was a surprisingly good show. The blend of several different animation styles was really good and the humor was always on point and of course there was always tons of hidden humor for parents.

Aftermath has still yet to launch.
And I do wonder what could happen to Toonami if AS goes under, does Toonami try to make their own station, or do they get purchased by Sony, which I hope doesn't happen
@@AvengingSaints sony has enough of the anime market in the US, they don't need anymore of it. It's bad enough sony is censoring anime left and right, but they are the reason toonami can hardly air most anime anyway. Hell toonami is behind on airing demon slayer due to sony having exclusivity to show the series on crunchyroll for a whole year before it can go else where. Not to mention the price tag to air the series on other networks/platforms is too damn high, thanks sony.
@AutZentus I thought i said in my previous comment that I hope Sony DOES NOT buy Toonami if adult swim goes under with Cartoon Network. Sony is the last place that Toonami needs to end up if this situation were to happen. And I've noticed that Toonami hasn't really gotten a lot of new shows. I think they are a season behind on MHA and Demon Slayer just wrapped up the Entertainment District arc a few weeks ago I think. Lycrios Recoil, Ninja Kamui and Fena Pirate Princess are the last few new original shows they have gotten since 2018 at best.

Unfortunately, I don't think cartoons will ever be able to recover to what they were in the 80-early 2000s. While you can get the most awesome show possible, it will still flop because to keep a good cartoon going, it needs to have enough merch to make money. Just selling ads no longer cuts it since DVD sales have dropped by about 85% since 2008 in America, just making a good show and hoping people sell enough physical media is a pipe dream.
And, unfortunately, toys just don't sell anymore. Most 80s cartoons were 30 min ads for toys with a passable story attached. But now, kids aren't buying toys because they have games one the computer or their phones. There are still things like shirts, lunch boxes, and stuff like that, but they don't have the "I have to buy every single figure for a complete set" mentality that toys have. The big companies could try and turn things around by making cartoons for adults and attempting to sell high quality collectable figures, but who is going to spend $120 on a He-Man figure to put on a shelf?
There are people who do that. Star Wars collectors used to do that. But then, like with every nostalgic property that didn't have a high barrier of entry or was too weird to be "popular," they gave it to people who absolutely hated it, who didn't get it, and who didn't respect it. And they kept doing it ad nauseum until people just don't care.
In fact He-Man had its golden opportunity with the Masters of the Universe: Revelation in 2021 but they spat all over it. It would've been a good opportunity to sell some adult collectables, or bring some cool looking toys. Same with She-Ra. But who wants a Glimmer doll like that? Who wants a Skeletor action figure who plays second banana to Evil-Lyn? They threw away their chance for politics and pandering to a crowd that never buys.
Most kids shows get a lot of money from mobile games now. Merch is outdated compared to video game monetization.

We also got decades of backlogs of cartoons, TV series, movies, etc. Modern entertainment will be gone, but we still have the classics.
@@mmecharlottethat doesn't make any sense we can't keep relying on the past
The possibility of this legit hurts. My family loved Cartoon Network when my brother and I were growing up. Sooo many great shows used to be there, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Ed Edd and Eddy, Megas XLR, Samurai Jack. It used to be great.
Same
... im always going to look back fondly to watching the first ending theme of inuyasha and thinking it was the most mind blowingly beautiful animation ever when i was 9.
This is another reason why I can't wait for ME TV TOONS.
Nothing of value was lost.
This is a tragedy. At the same time, Cartoon Network is now a shell of its former glory. Encourage kids to look at older CN shows and movies.
Would need to find where the older middle to older zoomers who don't know about older Shows/movies.
@@thecompareablezombie Excuse me, but I was there when CN first came out.
It’s sad to see Cartoon Network die off like this but this was inevitable at this point. Independent entertainment is the future.
At least we got the Venture Brothers. I hope MeTV doesn't screw this up.
I grow up watch cartoon network and toonami and adult swim. I enjoy toonami and classic cartoon network and adult swim. It's bring great wonderful memories.
Don’t forget Miguzi.
@@ChristianFrates1997 i remember miguzi. That also bring great and wonderful memories. Miguzi rest in peace 2004-2007
Toonami jetsteam. Prince of tennis and mar heaven and hikaru no go.
@@ChristianFrates1997 do you remember code lyoko tv series ?
I'm more worried about what'll happen to Toonami. That's really the only reason I ever put that channel on anymore.
More people are watching Anime. With its nice story and ( depending on the anime) decent animation and moving away from western animation
Mostly for panty shots and hentai
That is true, which has a various well made shows.
Damn.... i hope the creators get by, because many of them really kept working extra hard, and their TV shows really show this. Really wish them only the best.
Toonami and adult swim literally made millions of people like me lifelong anime fans. Talk about an end of an era.
Don’t forget Miguzi.
@@ChristianFrates1997 - I was mostly adult swim at that point, so I can't comment authoritatively on Miguzi's spread of anime, though I imagine it helped.
@@ChristianFrates1997 Miguzi was not an anime block, it was a more kid friendly action cartoon block (for western cartoons specifically). Miguzi's only exclusive was Code Lyoko but the rest were western action cartoons that could already be seen on other parts of the CN schedule. Toonami on CN (both afternoon era and Saturday era) and adult swim action were the main hubs for anime over the years, and of course Toonami since it's return on adult swim as well.
The channel gave us so much good memories, but they have nothing to blame but themselves for going this route with this Calart tumblr cartoons and the annoyance of Teen Titans go.
Doesn't nothing wrong with calart Tumblr cartoons because many great things have came from it
@@animezilla4486 That's 🧢, and I never that I've realized that CN was on LGBTQ+ Representation bs at the start of the 2010s the minute it rebranded itself. Basically, it resetted itself for toddler reboots 🚼 of original classics 🦸♂️🦹♂️🦸♀️🦹♀️🦸🦹 and fruity boy representation 🌈👨❤️👨👩❤️👩💑🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️. All you gotta do is look at CN's bumbers (Magenta, yellow, & Cyan are all LGBTQ+ Representation colors) and it'll all click to you! (I know, bc this YT TDI show called *Disventure Camp* in its 3rd Season highlights these exact same fruity boy colors).
Man, adult swim and hard liquor were my 20s, sad if they go down
This honestly makes me very sad. I grew up on CN and seeing it just die out with a whimper like this is upsetting.
Get Woke go Broke, Nickeloden will be next
I Hope
There hasn't been a single example of a company or business that's shut down as a result of embracing diversity. That's not what's happening at all.
Once I work for the media production field, I plan to rescue the Cartoon Network and Adult Swim brands.
WB has discovered the "streaming lesson," which turns out to be true of narrowcasted channels too: It's better the make content and license it repeatedly than 'sell' it to yourself for zero dollars, and pay to broadcast it.
Cartoon Network's golden age has long since past.
I was just wondering about CN after watching Ben 10 alien force.
I remeber Ben ailen force tv. I enjoy Ben 10 ailen force.
Honestly, I think after shows like Regular Show, Adventure Time, and yes even Steven Universe were the last hurray for Cartoon Network.
I watched the channel a lot in the 2010s way more than Nickelodeon
Nah I think OK KO, infinity train, and Unikitty were the last hurrah
@@Cubeytheawesomewhat's Your opinion on DC Super Hero Girls?
OKKO, Infinity Train, Summer Camp Island and We Bare Bears will stay with me though. ❤❤❤

CN died to me when the Dexter, ed edd and Eddy, courage and etc cartoon era ended. At that point it was only worth watch for adult swim. Now I haven't had cable for 7 years.
