  • The Pure Madness brings another solid HK22 asym to the mix with ERT Solid coverstock. The Craze core isn't big flaring or high intermediate by any means, so the ball was very smooth and very slow to respond to friction. If you need to control patterns and you don't want to use urethane, the Pure Madness may be the ball for you!

    With the help of SPECTO data, it'll help tell the story about reaction shape, overall hook and continuation through the pins. Here are the SPECTO data points used and definition of each term:
    Launch Speed - Speed measured off the hand.
    Entry Speed - Speed measured at the pins. (What you'd see on your home center MPH screens)
    Rev Rate - Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)
    Launch Angle - The angle the ball traveled the first 10 feet.
    Break Point Position - Board at which the ball was at its outermost position.
    Total Hook - Total number of boards the ball crosses on the way to the pins.
    Hook Power - Number of boards the ball hooked based on the True Breakpoint.
    Entry Angle - The angle of the ball between 51 and 55 feet.
    Impact Angle - The angle of the ball between 57 and 59.5 feet.
    Pin Deck Exit - Ball position at the end of the pin deck.

    I am amazed at the new Columbia 300 balls. The Pure Madness is a great complement to the Scorpion Low Flare. The PM looks good for tougher broke down oil patterns. Nice review.

    I'm a fan of smooth, controlled arches with bowling balls and this seems like a future buy for me. I'm getting a Stealth Track Solid drilled right now with a 3 1/2 inch pin. Depending on how that looks for me, I'll probably do something similar to this one.

    Looks as if it could be a great replacement for Track Legion Solid that has been beaten up. Wood lanes, 42', 9:1 ratio pattern. Slower response works great here (skid/flip not so). I like darker colors also; keep the black & red -- sometimes 2 colors are plenty.

    When you played out it burned up in the midlane and rolled dead forward.
    When you played much further inside the extended time in the oil helped it retain energy better but it was not convincing.
    I think this is just one of the low rev bowler throw it straight up 10 balls.

    I used to have a Columbia 300 yellow dot primal rage that I loved. Tbh man this ball looks like it's wanting to pick up early and wouldn't have a problem covering some boards and playing angles like u said with some surface on it. I noticed u really have to drop your speed tho to get it out there wide and come back. Does look like a good ball to be able to keep speed up amd play down in and as well. I do agree with you I'm not a big fan of all these crazy colors on some of these balls lately they look almost graffitish. Not a fan. But hey to each his own.

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  4 місяці тому

      Yep, not a fan of the big colors either. I would likely use a lot more surface to use this one. Maybe 500/1000 instead.

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  5 місяців тому +4

      Purple Hammer? If you want to stick with Urethane. Modern balls don’t make good spare balls, they tend to hook too much too quick.

    That ball definitely needs some oil up front to be usable without an adjustment. How close is it to the 3.0? The 3.0 almost seems cleaner and more around the corner for as heavy as it seems to want to roll.

      It absorbs oil at the slowest rate, has a higher RG and the cover is easily tunable. It’s an easy ball to control when the lanes are dry.
