hi guys 😭 it’s been a rough month. i’m sorry if the quality of this video isn’t as good as usual, i left my hard drive on the plane so i had to make do with what i had. i still don’t have my hard drive but i’m feeling a lot better than i did in the video ❤️ thank u guys always
I love that you take the time to customize your journal. It’s a great way to take a break from the busyness of life and to slow down. Love your theme for may 💛
I love this theme!! It doesn’t have anything to do with Asian History or representation but I think a really cute theme one month would be a Bridgerton theme, like regency era high tea or ball. With lots of springy pastels and florals!
The theme for this month is honouring AAPI Persons and shoutout to my fellow Asians all over the world. I’m living for the spread this month 🔥 P.S. Get well soon, Amanda.
When you were explaining the history of the traditional hand fans, it reminded me of a previous video of you and HojuSara doing calligraphy and doodles on the hand fans. ✨
This is such a pretty theme! I have a hand fan tattoo and this was such a fun time to draw and fill out. March and April have been rough months, but we are all here for you! You have to look out for #1 and that #1 is you. Never apologize for taking time off, or for taking care of yourself.
Seeing Ben&Ben on the spread 14:07 makes my hart happy🥰 They have the most beautiful songs although some of them are in Filipino, the meaning behind the lyrics are very lovely.
Lovely theme! My may theme was inspired by the song Azalea by Rolling Quartz, and I recently learned the song is based on an old korean poem thats important to the korean people so it fits so well to this month too!
I am LIVING for the Asian Excellence but in your Bullet Journal. I have some book recommendations: - ‘Number One Chinese Restaurant’ by Lillian Li - ‘A Passage North’ by Anuk Arudpragasam - ‘The Mountains Sing’ by Nguyen Phan Que Mai (I don’t know how to input Vietnamese diacritical marks) - ‘The Housekeeper and the Professor’ by Yoko Ogawa - ‘Convenience Store Woman’ by Sayaka Murata - ‘Kim Jiyoung Born 1982’ by Cho Nam-Joo - ‘Tamas’ by Bhisham Sahni - ‘Coming Out as Dalit’ by Yashica Dutt - ‘Annihilation of Caste’ by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
One of my favorite books is Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang. It tells the story of the authors grandmother, mother and herself. It was wonderful.
@@nancywillaert5129 It is a true story about the lives and struggles of the authors grandmother and mother. It is not a romance. I highly recommend it. 👍🏼
this was such an exciting and comforting video to view, i'm so happy you posted!! also don't even worry about the quality omg, it still looks incredible!!
Sweetie, I’m so sorry you’ve been sick. Wishing you a speedy and full recovery. Maybe you’ve already figured this out for yourself. If not, I recommend getting several fans for your bathroom and makeup areas. Maybe even the kitchen 😅. For the bathroom, I like to have a pretty fan on the counter to grab and fan my face after I’ve spritzed it with a spray mist. And if you ever use hairspray, a fan is handy to quickly set the hairspray. Lastly, I love having a fan at my makeup vanity. It helps dry mascara quickly, speed up any other liquid-type makeups, and it’s especially helpful if you use a makeup setting spray or spray sunscreen or spray tan. Fans are the greatest-both the windy-fanny type and the loving Little Doodles type❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
This theme is so elegant and beautiful! I love the minimalist design and colour, and I love whenever it's a theme inspired by Asian art bc I love Asian art too
Amanda I'm so sorry you're having such a rough month. I've been watching your insta stories and just wishing I could hug you through the screen. I'm really hoping that your hard drives do get handed in and returned to you. I'm reading To All The Boys I've Loved Before series, by Jenny Han, which as well as being a great YA romance is also great for describing the Korean experience. Also Lara Jean loves stationery and scrapbooking in the books. Of course Turning Red and Domee Shi too. I got so emotional watching it thinking about what it must mean for you, Lots of Love, and I hope May turns out better for you than April xxx
I love this so much! As an half-Asian (Japanese), this was really relatable and pretty. I recognize the hand fans, and your doodles are so so pretty and natural. I love you so much. Hope you feel better and this month brings you joy. love to the Asians. also, anime is Asian so I would really really recommend rascal does not dream of a bunny girl senpai which is on cruncyroll and netflix 💞
Amanda, you and your work are amazing. Thank you so much for your inspiration. Please, number 1 is to take care. Quality is more important than quantity. You abound with so much quality - in your work, your soul. The best gift for you and us is for you to be happy with who you are.
I love your cover page. I love how aesthetically pleasing, & functional your layouts are. My favorite spreads/pages from your set-up are the cover page, habit tracker with the fan & the flowers, love the mood tracker, loving the Asian Excellence spread, & the weekly pages. For the Asian Excellence spreads I would recommend the Ip Man movies, which are Ip Man (2008), Ip Man 2 (2010), Ip Man 3 (2015), Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018), & Ip Man 4: The Finale (2019), & the Rurouni Kenshin movies & through this viewing order, we'll get a better understanding of why The Final's villain, Enishi Yukishiro, hates Kenshin so much Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning (2021), Rurouni Kenshin Origins (2012), Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (2014), Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (2014), & Rurouni Kenshin: The Final (2021) . Thank you for sharing your creativity, & video. I hope you will be able to watch my May bullet journal video on my channel. 😊
this setup is GORGEOUS. I used to not like the color red but now I think it's my favorite color lol! it's gorgeous. I'm so excited to fill in my recreation of it!!
If you haven't read any of Gillian Sze's work yet, I highly recommend all of it! She has a new book that just came out, "Quiet Night Think," but my absolute favorite is called "Redrafting Winter." Her wordplay and references are so wide-ranging and unique that you'll probably start down a rabbit hole of research after reading a poem. She's brilliant.
I remember when I was like 7 yrs old and my family ordered dinner regularly from this one Chinese Restaurant and they used to always give my brother and I a beautiful fan and a scroll-type paper with the Chinese Zodiac on it. And BC we were loyal customers for so many years, they always gave us a new Zodiac scroll every year.
Hello Amanda. First got to say this months theme is really cute and i loved it💕❤️. Secondly I would like to tell you about this thing i do in my bullet journal. So i have tried journaling before but i later figured out that it is not working for me 🥲. So instead of journaling everyday i have started journaling every month. And I've been loving it. What i do is either write about a day in that month that was special and/or something special happened that day. If that month had no special days then i write a lil summery of the month. I call them monthly story or *months name* story. I hope you try this and if you do hope you enjoy it as much as i do 🥰. Thank you!!! Leaf 🍀
amanda, i only found you in the past 1-2 years during the pandemic and you're one of my absolute fav channels (i don't even journal or doodle, but i just love watching your videos, it's v relaxing and fun for me) so just wanted to give you another anecdotal reminder that while some viewers are 'graduating' from watching your channel into another phase of their life in a sense, others like myself are constantly entering the beautiful lil doodles community you've created as well :)
The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen is a phenomenal book!! It won the Pulitzer and I loved it so much. Parts of his prose read like poetry and its so beautiful, powerful, emotional. Definitely my favorite behind Pachinko and Crying in H Mart!
Just wanna say thank you so much for bringing us all joy through your videos!! 💞I know you've been going through a rough time lately, so I just want make sure you know how GRATEFUL all of us are for for all the hard work you put into your videos. ❤ Your videos have always brought me joy, so I hope that there will be some joy and relaxation coming your way soon ❤❤
This theme is so creative!! Also so sorry to hear about hard drive, I hope they manage to find it + someone returns it. Have a speedy recovery back to full health!
I'm unsure if comics are your thing but one of my favourite series of all time is Monstress which is written by Marjorie Liu and drawn by Sana Takeda. The story, world-building and character design is amazing and Takeda's are is absolutely stunning! Probably my fav comic visually! Would 10/10 recommend!
This was so prettyyy! I esp love the little line breaks you added to the boxes in the weekly spread. Idk, it's such a small detail but I think it added a "whimsical" element to the spread!

Loved the educational blurb about the fans at the beginning. I can appreciate that this was closer to your heart than other spreads, but it would be really cool if you continued giving a little educational background in the future!
every single month i'm amazed by what you create, but this month is my favourite i think! i'm so sorry you're having a bad time but i do hope it passes quickly! sending hugs and lots of support!!
Glad you got some of your footage back 👐 I read Loveboat,Taipei last year for the Asian Readathon hosted by Cindy and I loved it so much, I think it's quite an underrated book 😊 I hope that in May things get better for you 🌸 💪
A tutorial for the fans and flowers would be amazing, but either way thank you so much for what you do! It is so much fun to bujo now thanks to your guidance! 😊
wow this is such a beautiful and unique setup!!! so gorgeous! hope that you recover fully now that you're back home and that they find your hard drive!
This might get lost in the ether but I have to say: Amanda, thank you so much for this. I had a very long day and in the end my roommates ended up unintentionally and unknowingly giving me sensory overload. This video was the perfect last step to deescalate myself. Even the simplistic style was fitting and your voice really calmed me down. So thank you ❤️
This set up is so stunning!!! For book recommendations by Asian authors, 2 of my absolute favourites are Jade City by Fonda Lee, and The Poppy War by RF Kuang ❤️
Parasite for movies of course! Young the Giant (band) has an Asian lead vocalist. Pachinko was a book before a movie, I havent read it but I have heard great things. and Little Fires Everywhere is a book written by an Asian author
Amanda could you do a video on fun monthly spreads (like trackers, playlists, etc type of spreads) for people who use their bujo more as a journal than a planner? 💛
Quality of video/audio is just fine, Amanda. No worries. I hope you continue to feel better and REALLY hope your hard drive gets back to you. Everything Everywhere All at Once. Great movie. Love me some Michelle Yeoh! And the actor that plays her husband in the film is (can't remember his name), but was the little boy (Short Round) in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (which you may not have seen as it's a little before your time). It was great to see him again. Grown up!
There is a really good book by Lisa See called Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It was really interesting to learn about the woman’s secret script called Nüshu. (It also has a lot of graphic detail about foot binding.)
please get rest and I hope that you feel better and get your hard drive back! the theme is amazing! also I'd recommend listening to The Ridleys and Benny Manalingod! He's a college friend who's also a Filipino indie artist and The Ridleys is his band and they make really good stuff!
There are so many books by Asian writers being translated now, it's so exciting. Kyung-Sook Shin's older novel, Violets, just came out. And I'm excited to read Love in the Big City by Sang Young Park. There are Southeast Asian writers that are also being translated though maybe not as widely. Bangkok Wakes To Rain by Pitchaya Sudbanthad is strange but in a good way, and Cinnamon Gardens by Shyam Selvadurai is a quiet novel about colonialism and social pressure. And that's not even mentioning the continued popularity of Japanese writers, who get translated regularly but are getting more publicity and promotion than ever before. There's so much out there, and there's more coming. I hope that we get to see the translated fiction market just keep growing and expanding to include many more countries and authors! I went on too long, but I love talking about translated fiction!
hope you get your hard drive back soon!! This is still a beautiful video and I'm so glad you were still able to upload! I was so sad when I first read about your hard drive in instagram and thought there might not be a video this month!
true lil doodles know the true struggles that Amanda went through to put this video out for us! so like this video for her! she deserves all the love ! 💗💗💗
This theme is so stunning😭 been following along your Instagram today and I hope you’re feeling better now💓 The theme is so so beautiful and please be proud of yourself because you’re such an inspiration
I was not able to make my april spread because of being sick too T_T Note to everyone: if you experience pain after recovering from covid, get that checked with the doctor. I had eye pain and then slowly (temporary) was getting blind in one eye. I had an autoimmune reaction called optical neuritis and it was scary. I had to go to hospital and also found out im diabetic, So dont ever neglect your health like me. Do not put off going to the doctor. This happened in February but i still get pains occasionally in my head and eye and it freaks me out. But my neurologist told me unless i am not able to see he cannot give me any meds. So yes. Moral of the story: Take care of your health before taking care of someone elses health as your health is the most important thing. Stay Safe
I don't know if it has already been mentioned but on of my favorite movie of all time is 2046 realized by Wong kar wai. Best movie 2004 at festival of cannes.
AMANDA this quality totally works!!! This is not exactly media but I'm part of the Asian American Journalists Association and we're doing our very best to do right by all of our coverage 💙💙

love how your spreads are so personal to your identity 💞💜
Let's thank Amanda for being so consistent and giving such high quality plan with me-s each month😭❤️
I love this theme!! It doesn’t have anything to do with Asian History or representation but I think a really cute theme one month would be a Bridgerton theme, like regency era high tea or ball. With lots of springy pastels and florals!

Amanda is a miracle worker 😭💗 this made me want an amanda doodled tattoo

One of my favorite books is Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang. It tells the story of the authors grandmother, mother and herself. It was wonderful.
Yes absolutely this book is long but well worth it
Is it a book that’s real live story? I love to read but don’t like romance books. It seems an interesting title.

Wow what an amazing addition, I can’t wait for May Day and this is getting me in the mood
If anyone is into metal at all The Hu is a Mongolian band. They use traditional instruments and the frontman does throat singing. They're amazing
this is by far my favorite you’ve ever done! I love how beautiful and simple it looks 💗
Descendants of the sun !!! Best k drama ever ! CL’s new album is awesome too !
You should totally do a bee/honeycomb theme! I did it last month and it is by far my favorite theme :)
Omg I was just gonna start journalling noww
Thank you Amanda for posting this ❤️
These videos are always so satisfying to watch
This was so prettyyy! I esp love the little line breaks you added to the boxes in the weekly spread. Idk, it's such a small detail but I think it added a "whimsical" element to the spread!
Get well soon Amanda! You don’t have to worry if you’re not that much active on soc med. You just concentrate on getting better.
Im a half Japanese and half sri lankan, i love the Japanese culture a lot, I will use this theme for a future spread
Don't burn out! Please, take it easy and care for yourself extra in times like these

This happens to be one of my favourites. Thanks for sharing and the extra effort. Take care and I hope you get better. Cheers from Spain.
One of your best spreads so far! Impressive!

Hi Amanda, thank you for doodling even though you are not well. Love the doodles. Take care.❤️😍
This is beautiful. I loved learning about the history of the fans and the different cultures that use these types of fans. Great work! 😊
In Bengal, we have a certain type of fan called ‘Haath Paakha’ (Handheld Fans) made from Bamboo and a variety of other raw materials.
I’d love a doodle tutorial for the flowers and fan! Love you girl!
Turning Red is my favourite recent Asian-created film!!! Such Toronto representation!

Amanda, thank you so much for this. I had a very long day and in the end my roommates ended up unintentionally and unknowingly giving me sensory overload.

You are telling me this is low quality of the original video, I love this!!!!!!!!
Favorite author: Haruki Murakami, especially Kafka on the Shore and 1Q84. And of course the art of Takashi Murakami!

Stay Safe
This theme is just immaculate 🥺✨️
Also I hope you feel better now and you can just rest! Take care cutie 🥺💜💜
