This is the real shit.....No Bull. Sounds like a Garage Band. Perfection. Oh Keith, this is Rock & Roll.
I think Voodoo Lounge was one of there best albums and tours.
I love this album, wish I saw the tour.. weird, I'm pretty sure I read in interviews that Mick and Keith don't like it
Keith's approach to songwriting becomes obvious here. He's got a riff and starts jamming with Charlie. Then he finds hook for the chorus, and for the verses he just mumbles through melodies until he finds something that sticks.
Then Mick comes along and brings the whole thing into shape, structure and a lyrical theme of sorts. Finally, Ronnie adds his solos and counter-riffs to Keith. Voodoo Lounge really feels like a band effort in that regard. "F*ck around and find out"-style.

First time, I heard this version of Love is Strong, Now understand The "KEITH EFFECT" The sporadic spastic guitar of Genuis !!!!! in this song.

Still think Voodoo defines the Stones in the '90s - Keith at his post-solo best.
Charlie's drumming in sparks will fly is perfection
I love the cadence of the vocals in the chorus in this version. Charlie is the coolest Stone and he knows it.

Actually listening the other tracks, they sound more like Steve Jordan to be honest....

Awesome upload. Offers fascinating insight into how these songs evolved into the versions we hear on the finished album. The strength of the Voodoo Lounge album and the accompanying tour is so often overlooked/ under-appreciated for how vital it was in sustaining the Stones as a force to be reckoned with well into the 2000's. They'd been written off so many times before of course but even the most ardent fans wouldn't have believed they still had a Grammy winning album in them, with Voodoo winning best rock album! Rock on Dartford Diablo's!
I got to see them in Cincinnati 1995 at 5 years old. It has become my fav Stones later days album!

Jagger is brilliant on it & these tracks aren't improved by Keith singing them, even if they were his idea!! ❤️
( I remember 1st buying it on double vinyl Ltd edition. I left it near a window, hot day, totally warped it!! 😵🤬.)
Frankly, every Stones album has tons of great stuff on it. The reason is that they are a from the ground up band. They work it all up from scratch, so a lot of the stink stays in the grooves...or between the bytes. Oh, and Keith is a soul genius. Almost forgot that.

Mick kills it on the album version (specifically, Love Is Strong). That said, Keef sounds cool on it. too...but Mick's delivery is perfect.

Who the f*ck is Mick Jagger?
Keith doesn’t get called a genius enough compared to others from his time when arguably The Rolling Stones wrote the hardest to write songs. No one has managed to write rock no roll songs close to him. The man is a genius!
I think anyone who knows anything at all calls this man a genius - on so many levels

Man, I only wish Mick Taylor hung in, he and Ronnie Wood would play famously together regularly, then Keef can just do his thing.
Mick Jagger playing guitar is like trying to wipe your ass with a Zig-Zag after all you can eat Taco night.
Keith has a lot of fun. Earned his way to Legend. Read his bio. Eye opener, even for stones fans.
Mick had a lot to do with writing most of the greatest songs and not just the lyrics. He wrote much of the music as well on this record, “I was a hooker losing her looks, ya got me rocking now.” Facts are truthfully they collaborated on most of the songs in the studio. Actually sort of like Jimi Hendrix with his brilliant showmanship, Mick Jagger is underrated as a song writer.

Great tape - I think it was a good call to bump the tempo up a tad on ‘You Got Me Rockin’ on the album version....it just needed that extra little kick.

1994, When Keith finally woke up from his drug induced fog of the late 70's early 80's, when I went back to listening to Slim Harpo and Elmore... Parts of this version of "Sweetshearts" sounds a lot like Willie DeVille's "Mixed Up Shook up Girl"....

Back in '65-'66, it seemed like the Stones would be the first major English band to explode into a million pieces and die, such was the level of their intensity. Really glad they didn't! Of course, they took a rest during the psychedelic area, but then exploded back into the limelight with Jumpin Jack Flash! Really glad they did!
Way better than the album. Jagger lost it in the 80s. Richards did not.
