The Royal Family’s ‘open invitation’ to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to major events is looking increasingly irrelevant, according to royal expert Richard Eden.
‘They need to face facts that they’re not wanted there,’ he tells Palace Confidential. ‘And I don’t think any other member of the royal family wants to see them.’
He also shares his theories on why the King met constitutional experts this week and what implications it could have for Prince Harry’s role as Counsellor of State.

I just watched the ceremony of the Trooping of the Colour and noticed that hardly anyone was on the balcony. I thought Zara and her husband would be there and also maybe Beatrice and Eugene. So I was a bit surprised at how small of a gathering it was. But I also wondered if that was for safety for the health of the King and Princess Kate.

I actually think it would have been good if our late Monarch had on occasions, particularly in the latter years of her life, allowed our current King to step in for her. I know she was very dedicated, but I think it would have been of enormous benefit to him to "learn the ropes" to speak, while Her Majesty was still alive. Would also have made things a little easier for him to step into the role, when she died.

William made his children HIS PRIORITY when they are young. He had the support of his father AND his grandmother that he do that. Mistakes have been made in the past with absent royalty and that effect. He was always working in the background , he had an actual job for years as a pilot. Then he was learning to manage the estates, which is a huge business... And planning his OWN path too. He has a lifetime of duty ahead of him, he was making sure he had his foundations in place. He is a very hands on parent and his children will be the better for that. He was never obsessed with being King...but he accepted it is his future role .
I remember when he was a teen, he was not too keen on being royal and hounded by the press.

What support exactly have they given THE MONARCHY AND COUNTRY that no other family member has done. For example Sophie's father or Mike Tindall's parents or many other members families after they married into the family. They have minded their grandkids - most grandparents have no issue doing that - and they looked after their daughter when she was ill - again something any decent parent would do anyway - but they haven't done anything UNUSUAL or out of the ordinary or of any major inconvenience to themselves to help either the monarch (past or present) or the country. They just supported their daughter and grandchildren as any decent parents should do. Heck, I'm no fan of the Beckhams but both of them have done more the country than the Middletons have, and David at least has been recognised for that with his appointment to the King's Trust.

@@shimmeringchimps3842 I'll take your word for it, all the families I know (those who actually live in the same country that is rather than halfway around the world) help out whenever possible and definitely if one of the family are sick. Maybe that's just the families I know, I can think of at least one that thrives on drama (or at least the druggie daughter does) but even they pull together when someone is ill so to me the Middletons are doing what any NORMAL family does.

The Royal Family was keen to protect him from the public eye after Diana's death, and until he finished university. It was more the reluctance of the family to expose him to too much pressure as a youth and young man, rather than his own personal reluctance, as I recall it being reported back in the day.
