Todd Williams -- Saxophones Marcus Roberts -- Piano Reginald Veal -- Bass Herlin Riley -- Drums Recorded at the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington, New Zealand
He took eighth note triplets and divided them into groups of two but that happened within this regrouping of quarter note triplets. The reason it had such a profound rhythmic effect is because he was implying a different 4/4 time over the existing 4/4 time. The pulse of the quarter note triplet re-grouped into 4 is the other time. Within that, he was playing eighth notes but over the normal time that had been going on the whole time. This shit goes deep man.
@@ericwilliamsjazz I'll definitely check them out since I can't just disrespect a Giant like that and leave, but that was bad. I love doubletime players like Dizzy, Bird, Pat Martino, but those were garbage lines, speed for the sake of it

Can anyone explain what he's doing starting around the 2:00 mark with the time? Just straight sixteenths?
8th note triplets in even groups I think? 😊

The piano player also does this around 8:30
I'm sorry, but 2:02 did not sound good, wack lines. Not like I could play even a 10th as well as he could, but still...
You’re just not hip.. check out some of his records
