I think one of the bigger differences is also that in IPSC you will never see Virginia count stages ( fixed time, fixed rounds) but in uspsa you can have these stages ( especially in classifiers). When I started shooting ipsc in 1991 that was still very common in IPSC as well ( just as having shooting boxes, non see through walls etc

Correct, that's also a difference between both. Thanks for sharing!

This was really great. It basically stems from the original founders of the competition. Jeff Cooper wanted a practical shooting event to practice for defensive action. And when the sport became less about fighting and more about sport and as soon as the Russians were let in America went its own way.

I deleted one post, I was not supposed to share that Info. That just proves what I was told is not true. I don’t see IPSC changing their rules to better align with our ridiculous rule changes. Thanks for the vids.

Great video sir. Just one thing, I am pretty sure that in the IPSC Production division (12:16), when we talk about the dimensions of the gun and magazines, your gun doesn't need to fit the box just barrel length cannot be longer than 127mm. (APPENDIX D4: Production Division). Best regards.

I think you have it wrong with regards to difficulty and distances. USPSA is generally easier faster and closer targets. Hence very high hit factors compared to regular IPSC stages. Obviously some matches are different, like the USPSA National’s that’s been built by Shannon Schmidt for the last many years, but on a regular area and club level, it seems that way. Ben Stoeger also has aired his views on this the same way.

The reason the US is different dates back to the some of the prior people in charge of IPSC and the attitude of some of our .org leaders. Vince likes to poke the (proverbial) US bear. That was then but today with the latest rule changes our organization has totally turned off anyone that is even thinking about competing in any IPSC competition. We finally have 3 to 4 high quality level III (and higher) matches coming to the states and a lot is shoot are pleased to see this, but it seems the powers in USPSA only care about allowing anyone to compete with whatever pistol or carbine that happen to have. We are dumbing down the rules and that will eventually down the competition in the states. My AD was so happy to tell me that the .org has made more money than ever, even with COVID. What does that tell you??

Thanks for your insights. I understand that a lot of people have issues with the way USPSA is run lately, to include the latest rule changes. As usual, money makes the world turn around ...

Rather than reduce power factor to reduce wear and tear, id make competitors actually use larger calibers. For example, classic should be 170 or even 175 and should be 45 guns. Id also make open guns follow the same minimum diameter as standard, requiring at least 40.
