Thank You President Oaks , Im a. Canadian member of the church. I love your country and Im grateful for your lesson on this subject. God bless you for teacing us so well
Canada has fallen and the saints in Canada are nearly all asleep to this reality. The past week the parliament building was overrun and nothing was done about it. YET the truckers and their families today continue to be prosecuted in the courts and are doing jail time.
@@TheWordsofChrist unfortunately too many Canadians have been listening to the wrong messages put out through so many right wing outlets … it’s so sad to watch … let’s all pray that justice will prevail… and evil leaders such as Donnie will finally be held accountable for their many many crimes … The lord is in control…. I have faith that love and goodness will prevail in the end …
Closer to the end, Elder Oaks & thus GOD, tells ALL citizens how to vote w/ common sense. Pls take time to study the candidates & " motions on the table" ❤, TX 🙏 🇺🇸🕊
I have always thought the US Constitution was an inspired document, thank you for saying so! D&C 9. 5 - 5 And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me. 6 Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land; 7 And as pertaining to law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil. 8 I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also maketh you free. 9 Nevertheless, when the wicked rule the people mourn. 10 Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil. 11 And I give unto you a commandment, that ye shall forsake all evil and cleave unto all good, that ye shall live by every word which proceedeth forth out of the mouth of God. 12 For he will give unto the faithful line upon line, precept upon precept; and I will try you and prove you herewith...
1. The source of government power is the people. 2. Separate powers of the states, limits federal government. 3. Separation of legislative and executive and judicial. 4. Cluster of individual rights and principles. 5. Divine inspiration of the whole constitution.
This is why back in 2005 I took the oath and joined the United States Army. I joined for many reasons but the foremost was to support and defend the constitution. I also wanted to extend the gift of freedom of religion to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.
@TheWordsofChrist I attend the temple monthly. Armies are used for good and bad. I would like to reminde you of the hym that says "forward Christian soldiers going on to war with the cross of Jesus going on before." Saten controls army's and navies so does God.
I kindly encourage everyone to attend the temple and take the opportunity to learn more about the use of the word *“army”* and its context. You’ll notice that specific actions are often associated with this term, helping to define the type of army and who is in control. Additionally, you may find an example of an “army of God”, such as President Nelson’s reference to the youth of the Church as the “youth battalion.” It may be helpful to reflect on the differences between these two examples of armies. While we all bring unique experiences and perspectives, let’s focus on learning and growing from what the temple teaches us. I attend the temple at least once a week, and my hope is that others can also find the peace, understanding, and inspiration that come from spending time in the Lord’s house.
If we were actually serious about this, we'd be exercising our 10th Amd right all over the place, but we don't have a clue of what it is and what that means...and clearly don't care enough in the first place
If the Church took a solid stance on abortion years ago, then why is it a political issue when it’s claimed the church doesn’t take a political side? One political side wants more and more abortion outside of rape, incest, and danger to the mother, and one political side wants abortion only in those scenarios. If the church is against slavery, then they are being political. Which political side wanted to keep slavery and which one wanted to abolish it? Reality check, it’s the same political side that wanted to keep slavery in tact as it is that wants more and more abortion availability. If the prophet is the Lord’s mouthpiece, then why would members of the Church who claim to follow the prophet support politicians who go against the Lord’s stance on abortion? The church is more political than we would like to think.
Every individual possesses the right to exercise their personal agency, a principle deeply rooted in both doctrine and scripture. As Joseph Smith, the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, famously stated: 'I teach them correct principles, and they govern themselves' (John Taylor, Millennial Star, Nov. 15, 1851, p. 339). This doctrine underscores the responsibility of individuals to make decisions based on correct principles and accountability. The Church has consistently emphasized political neutrality while encouraging its members to thoughtfully participate in civic matters. In 1896, when Utah became a state, Church leaders strongly discouraged the Saints from voting as a single bloc. President Wilford Woodruff and other leaders instructed members to divide their support between the Democratic and Republican parties, fostering political diversity and individual choice. This move was intended to dispel national concerns about undue Church influence in political matters and to affirm the Saints' ability to exercise independent political judgment. The Church reaffirmed this position in subsequent years. In a 1994 statement, the First Presidency stated: 'Principles compatible with the gospel may be found in various political parties. The Church does not endorse, promote, or oppose political parties, candidates, or platforms' (First Presidency letter, Jan. 15, 1994). This doctrine aligns with Joseph Smith's teaching of personal agency and encourages members to avoid political groupthink. Today, it may surprise some when Latter-day Saints vote for Democratic candidates, given long-standing cultural perceptions of political conservatism among Church members. However, this reflects the Church's enduring principle that individuals must make informed decisions based on their understanding of sound doctrine and personal values, respecting the right of all to exercise their agency in the political sphere.
@ I understand everything you just stated. But it does not answer my question about how members that claim to follow the prophet can vote for politicians who want abortion all the way to birth for any reason. The prophet, the Lord, the Church, set the acceptable standard decades ago. Just this one issue alone is enough to never vote Democrat for those that claim to be followers of the Prophet (Christ). “I follow the prophet (Christ) with the exception I’m ok with killing babies for any reason”. Not only is this against the church’s stance, but an individual would not be able to HONESTLY say they don’t associate with, or support any group or organization that is against the church’s teachings. I can’t remember the exact temple recommend question, but I’m quite certain you know which question I’m referring to. As mentioned in the talk by Oaks, the church reserves the right to take a stance on certain issues relating to religious matters and constitutional matters. But when a certain political party is against a particular teaching of the church across the board, temple recommend holders should not be supporting such groups. It’s one thing to have a difference of opinion on how to balance a budget, but it’s an entirely different thing to support killing babies for any reason, or slavery for that matter. And since we’re on the topic of the constitution, which party wants to remove more and more freedoms, and which wants to preserve it. It’s a given as to which party wants more freedoms and which wants less freedoms. As we move further and further away from the Constitution, eventually it will be lost and those members that claimed to have loved the Constitution were supporting less and less of the Constitution the whole time. The righting is on the wall, and even though the prophets have warned us about this deterioration of the Constitution, some of the members will be partially responsible for its loss as they supported it. All because they couldn’t read what was right in front of them as plain as day.
Such an important message for Church members. Thank you for posting.

A VERY important lesson on the Constitution and the role of the Church related thereto.

Why wasn't this talk given a few weeks before the most recent election?
It was given at the general conference following the jan 6th insurrection
If we were actually serious about this, we'd be exercising our 10th Amd right all over the place, but we don't have a clue of what it is and what that means...and clearly don't care enough in the first place
A country that doesn't care . . is a country speeding toward destruction. 😢 🙏
