- Hello, friends! This is a bit of an update/video request about my vintage Rider Waite Smith decks. My most recent addition to the collection is my Blushing Fool Blue Box. In this video, I talk a bit about how these editions differ from one another, as well as having a close look at a few of the cards to show you how they vary in colours, print quality and card stock.

I'm on the hunt for a more vintage rws deck and was getting so bamboozled by all the editions lol. This video helped TONS, especially in being able to differentiate between the 70's and 80's editions. Thank you so much!
IM SELLING THE BLUE TAROT DECK IT GOES FOR €460 BUT IN SELLING IT FOR LIKE €160
@@rraacchhellll what a joke! I picked up that deck for £8!
@@garethsamuel3737 honestly! That was a steal!!! Research about it online, if you do have the original like me you could have something worth a lot of money!!
@@rraacchhellll I have two, the first cost me £50. The night before finding the second deck, I had a vivid dream where I was gifted with a Kingfisher. I knew I was going to find treasure that day. 160 still seems a lot to me but maybe some people are prepared to pay such amounts ..certainly not me though.
I loved this compassion video Katie, perfectly explained in such a clear way. Thank you 🙏🏼📿
Two Spirit thanks, Simon 😊
I have 7 RWS decks with about 100 others. So yes I am a geek on this and I enjoy this. I like the UK deck. It seems easy and it grabs me.
This was clear and concise, thank you. Every time I dip into this area it gets confusing to really know what I'm looking at, exactly :-)
Haha I know that feeling! I'm glad my video didn't just add to the confusion! :D
Thanks for doing this comparison. It's always interesting to see how the RWS has evolved through out the years.
I think so, too! Such small changes, but it ends up feeling like quite a different deck from the '70s til now!
Kathy flowers. Have you come across a yellow tuck box Waite tarot on the front with a fool pictured, but it has a pink back with a bright pink pentacle on it. Maybe 80’s or 90’s?, doesn’t have the copyright on it
I have a blue box coming my way, I don't know yet which one exactly, it was so cheap, that I just bought it as soon as I saw it without asking seller for more photos. :D I also have "Traveller's Tarot" which is 70s blue box pocket version and it's one of my most fav decks. :)
M new to tarot.. And becoming a total geek.. I purchased my first deck ever the centennial.. But after seeing the side by side comparison, the blue box and sunburnt magician stand out to me in a warm way. But in India centennial is the best i can get hold off.. If I don't compare, I think centennial is good too.. ☺ hope so..
do you know when they started to put the copyright on the cards for the yellow box? I have one that looks just like the second box but does have the copyright, but the copyright is like u.s. games. that's the way it is very very small but very pastel in colors. No copyright on the box at all, and my book does have the magician on it and not the world. Looks just like the 1st one beside your blue box to the left. Thank you for sharing this, now I have an idea what year maybe early 70's but yet no older than 80's.
Dear Katey, I bought a vintage blue box (not the one with the lid) did not ask for pictures and it turned out it had the blushing fool deck inside. Does the blushing fool deck also come in a non lid box?
Ah, great! I was just wondering about this type of stuff the other day :D How perfect is this timing! Thank youuu!! Really great to know what to look for and what are the main differences :*
+Empathic Tarot I'm so glad you found it timely and useful! 😊
Oh yes! I always wondered about how the boxes look like and what are the main characteristics for them. I've seen them yellow boxes around and never quite figured out how they are to be distinguished from one another :D now I totally know! Yay!
Love this!!! I do enjoy the Centennial, but would love to get one of the older versions...... just because!!! 😉
"Just because" is sometimes the best reason! :D x
I was bought a blue box RWS last week by my partner (who knows nowt about Tarot!), imagine my delight when I opened it up and discovered it's a blushing fool edition - he's totally nonplussed at my excitement :D
+Tarot and Stuff haha! That was my experience, too! My partner was like 'I don't understand. Isn't that a bad thing?!' 😅
Ooooh show us +Tarot and Stuff @Tarot and Stuff .... ? :D (Sorry Katey for butting in!)
I'd love to Nobody Here, but I'm not a You tuber - I popped extensive pics in Eclectic Ponderings, a fb group though
Will check that group out :D
I did a very quick show and tell vid here, my first ever so please excuse the rather creepy nervous heavy breathing - the close ups are pretty rubbish though so I'm not sure if it's actually any use - I'm Fay Robertson on fb (with a blushing fool as my profile pic :D ), and can show you better stills

Hello Katey. I was puzzled by the Rider and Co. LWB with your 70'2 pre copyright edition. Shouldn't it be the USG LWB? Sure the LWB didn't come with the blue box?
Not sure if you could help but, my deck is most similar to your "in between deck". It has the simple copyright on the bottom right face of the cards. It does not have the "Registered" logo on the front of the box. It was printed in Switzerland. The coloring around the font is grey. Has no bar code on the bottom of the back but does have the IBN number and the copyright address is still New York. I've read they started printing the copyrights on the cards as early as 1975 and didn't start using the bar code on the bottom of the box until the 80s. Is that correct?
Any info would be very helpful.
What do you think about the universal? I love it so much.
It’s nice!
One happy geek here. 😁 Thank you!
I have a Blushing Fool 💙and one I'm not sure about, LOL. The box has characteristics of both the 70s and 80s ones you showed us - no "R" after the title and no barcode, but it does have the ISBN printed on the back (sideways in the right-hand "margin" next to the blurb and "The Magician" has the grey background. The card colours seem to indicate 80s, which I've always assumed it was. There are a few more differences on the box, I think, and despite being "Printed in Switzerland" the printing is a bit dodgy on some of the cards. But it's still a *whole* lot nicer than the modern version. 😉
+Judy Kerr oooh how interesting! There's so many different editions with small differences between them! It can be hard to work out where they all fit chronologically, but it sounds like you have it pretty well sorted!
I have the same one, but the magician isn't sunburnt. No barcode, printed in Sweden, darker background under the word magician, and no Tradmark.
I thiiink I have a deck from the late 70's/early 80's. Do you know if there was another different printing around there? Since it doesn't look either of the 70/80 decks you show. 'S okay if you're too busy or don't know, I just figured I'd ask. 💚
I’m sure there are plenty of additional printings. What are the differences on yours?
Katey Flowers Could I post some photos on Instagram and tag you? It'd probably be easier, haha.
Sounds perfect!
I just bought on a Yellow box Rider Tarot deck being both blushing fool & sunburnt magician combined, 1 deck. It wasn't cheap, just over $300 AUD. I am new to the cards, I only have 2 other quality decks, they are not originals but quality, 1 is a RWS Pamela Coleman Smith with no copy right logos etc. I am not a collector nerd either, I don't want to be buying cheap decks rubbish. I like a couple of original quality decks to use, that's it, not wasting money buying junk decks....
Plus when you buy quality anything, it tends to maintain or even increase in value. Quality collector items worth money,
What do you think of the Universal TArot?
I really like it! Good little pocket deck when it's trimmed!
I meant the Universal Waite Tarot.
hi there, I have every blue box edition, even a very rare, tuckbox in blue with blushing fool,
it was the first box, before they soon replaced it with the 2 part box, but to be fair, the card stock from 1971, up to the late 1970,s in my own opinion is the same, maybe if you want to be over critical , only thing that is colour different is....the B,F, & the H,P & the bar that the font is on, but other than that, nothing at all, hope this helps.......BB X
M.S.G Tarot do you have an email I can ask your opinion on
Hi! Will trade one of my decks/pay for 5 of Swords for a late edition (Conway St., has copyright) Blue Box! Please help! Puppy just chewed it and near tears!
Plz plz plz a humble request from u... watching ur vids from INDIA, Tried searching a decent color RWS deck, but all I get is *oversaturated orangish bright yellowish decks* plz for God's sake, provide me the link to buy the "sunburn yellow deck" 😭
Plz provide me the link of any of the 70s, 80s or 90s deck. Anyone will work 😫
HI Rudra, as these decks were produced in the '70s, '80s and '90s there is no single link to them, they are no longer being produced in the same way. The only way you can get these decks is second hand when they come up for sale, on eBay for example. You'll just have to keep your eye out for one. Good luck!
@@KateyFlowers very sad to hear tht...thank u for telling, but then u must be having many types of decks na...can u please tell me about tht unit, which *resembles the colors* with the old decks. Ik it must not be the same, but somewhere near it 🤔
