I found KHURANGBIN when they were just starting, after they supplied the music for the Corona beer commercial (THE NUMBER 4) years ago. I went to see them in Toronto, Canada in concert at the MOD CLUB of 100 people, tickets were just $20 they were just the opening band for CHICANO BATMAN. After the show LAURA was out front selling albums and shirts, we met and took selfies together. In 2018 I went to see them again in Toronto but tickets were $200 IF YOU COULD FIND THEM, a 2000 person venue and there was no chance of getting close to any of them. How fast they grew.
Reminds me of Vulfpeck where they went from doing small bar gigs without even a stage to selling out Madison Square Garden in a handful of years. I'm so happy for both these bands!

Another beautiful tune from my favourite band. Another Laura-heavy track (that bass and those vocals are absolute butter). I can also feel the melancholy in the theme of the song (as opposed to the super disco 'You and I'), and i quite like that. Very in tune with the energies of these times. Lots of loss all around us. Maybe it's just me, but i see some 'Spirited Away' and other Studio Ghibli references in the video too, which makes sense based on the context of the song.

Y'all know that Khruangbin means aero plane. Here's the break down: Khruang in Thai means an engine or a machine. Bin in Thai is to fly or flying. So Khruangbin means the engine that can fly.
Everybody talks about Thailand Indonesia etc etc influences on the band, but the "electrocumbia psicodélica" style guitar has been around a long time, it has its roots in the 60s and70s in Colombia, Perú, Ecuador etc etc. The lyrics in Spanish only drive it home more than ever to those not familiar with 60s 70s psychedelic cumbia style guitar from the Andean countries of South America (that's south of Panama for those who forget their geography). And oh by the way, don't EVER spell COLOMBIA with a U when referring to the country.

Everybody talks about Thailand Indonesia etc etc influences on the band, but the "electrocumbia psicodélica" style guitar has been around a long time, it has its roots in the 60s and70s in Colombia, Perú, Ecuador etc etc. The lyrics in Spanish only drive it home more than ever to those not familiar with 60s 70s psychedelic cumbia style guitar from the Andean countries of South America (that's south of Panama for those who forget their geography). And oh by the way, don't EVER spell COLOMBIA with a U when referring to the country.
