  • What’s going on Riders! Bringing something new to the mix. Raw, uncut but very helpful videos to fill your feed with.
    Service like this should done at EVERY tire change. If that rear wheel is coming off the bike and you take it to the shop, ask the tech to go further and replace those O-rings. This info puts you a step ahead!
    I apologize for the ending with the lighting turning me into a raccoon and the phone never focusing. Next time I will for sure have the phone sideways! It is what it is! UNCUT!

    Solid info. I just pulled my tire off to get it replaced and noticed the bearing in my spline was rough. This video was super helpful and I’ll be servicing everything before I put it back on!

    GREAT video, I've got 2 shaft drive bikes & 1 IS a 2003 vtx1800C. As far as I know, neither the VTX or the Boulevard has had this service done. Next rear tire service it will be though, should give me time to stock the bearings, o-rings & rubber bits for both units. Well Done & Thank You.

    Very good dark side info at the end , I may have never even thought about that . I just picked up a 02 dark sided 1800 bobber for my first big boy bike , coming from a 250cc Yamaha morphous upgraded to 400cc ( Yamalac pimpin ). I will be putting a motorcycle tire back on the vtx but still good to know that I should check it because who knows how long it's been darksided .

    I bought my 02 vtx 1800c in 2008 I've had to change the rear tire twice in the last 12years as the tires were new when I bought the bike and I don't get to ride as much as I'd like! But this is news to me thank you for the info! Next time I have it worked on I know what to ask for and to have inspected 😎👍👍

    Good video. Since you brought up Valkyries, your viewers with them should know that stopping here is not enough. You should remove the rear differential unit to clean and lubricate the driveshaft splines and pinion cup. While Honda usually gets it right, here, they did not. Many people have had to replace the shaft and pinion cup due to dry, rusted splines and severe wear. It sounds intimidating to dig so deep, but it's really not too hard to do. If you have someone else service your Valkyrie, make sure they know about it, and that they actually DO it.

    I like the "Hollywood" approach because I like your personality and also because the screen allows for better visual info. That being said, however you can enlighten us dumbdumbs to proper motorcycle maintenance is the way to do it. Also thanks for the heads up because I replaced the wheel bearings about 20000 miles ago and now understand why there was an extra bearing in the kit because I thought it was part of some kind of generic kit. But just keep being a cool ass dude in your videos because that is what allows me to relate to what you do. Be knowledgeable as you are, but I also plead you to allow me the fantasy to pretend I am working on motorcycles with trust-worthy friends because I do not have many. This sounds creepy but just giving my 2+ cents.

    Cody, thank you for all of your videos!! I am replacing my rear tire on my '90 PC800.I want to service the splines in the shaft drive however there is sooooo much out there on lubricants. I am overwhelmed on what to use. I guess Honda doesn't make the Molly 60 any longer and of course EVERYBODY has their opinions on what to use. I respect you and would like to know your recommendation. Thanks!!

    Absolutely a great video and needed as I have my wheels off my vtx1800. Bearings look good and are solid. But the o ring on the wheel bearing was a Grey o ring and it broke. Can I use any O ring or is a specific one needed to replace the one for the pressed in wheel bearing that will be under the flange bearing.???

    I’d prefer horizontal video, but very informative. Thank you! I know you are a pro, and I watched your video on carburetor cleanings. I know you absolutely don’t want to have any bring-backs, I would like to suggest you try Hoppes #9 to clean your brass, soaked for a couple hours, followed by acetone rinse. We never use drill bits or scotchbright. The brass comes out shiny new. We are aircraft mechanics and we use this method to clean carburetor brass and fuel injector brass. I think if you gave it a try you will be sold. I also use our method on my motorcycle carbs and it of course works outstanding.

    Thanks for this video got my wheels refurbished when i collected them they put all the bits in a bag and when i got home i found that all important o ring missing, so when i call the stealership what am i asking for as when i say final drive o ring they are stumped

    This format is fine cause it's the info passing along that really matters. Investing into a small tripod so you can have two free hands would help and maybe turning the phone sideways I'm not into seeing a one handed mech. fight for the simple stuff. You could even create a series called "fast facts" where everyone knows that the format will be like this. Hey look at what i just learned in 9 minutes Thanks I'll take it.

    The bearing on my rear coupler was bad after only 12K miles. Was surprised. Good video, but I'd say edit out the struggles on the next one haha

    Hello all i am involved with having to replace those rear bearings that are in the hub and cannot get any info so far on what to lube the open bearings with or even if they need to be lubed. Although i have never seen an unsealed bearing that didn't need to be lubes. I was wondering if those should be lubed with a good synthetic packing grease or the Molly paste? If any one has any input i would appreciate it. Thanks and Great Video

    Great information. I don't see anything wrong with shooting a video on your phone. It is a lot faster to upload to YT. I would like to see it full screen though so if the phone was held sideways it might make it a better Quality view. Thank you for your time and thought in putting togeather a real helpful video.     Does it cost anything to be part of that inner circle because I have an 05 Shadow 600 that I bought after it been sitting for 2 years and I've been slowly going through and fixing it but I'm also very low income so if I have to sign up for patreon or something else then I can't do it

    The video is fine it ain't TV quality and 8t ain't supposed to be. I always change my shaft oil on my CTX 1300 every time I change my oil it isn't much and you can get a quart of oil and last several changes.

    it's the information coming from a Professional Mechanic like yourself that I'm interested in and it doesn't matter to me that you used your cell phone. I think some of the people here on UA-cam get a little too anal thinking they're making a Hollywood Movie. It's not always about editing and having top quality video its more about the information you provide. Thanks again for the FREE information you provide.       Carl Booker only for GL1500 models and Valks. Not on the the 1800s just keep the threads a little wet with some Moly. Not a lot, just a smidge

    I have a question. Is it possible for the rubber pieces in the wheel to wear out? Is there a mileage that they should be replaced? I am troubleshooting a vibration in my 1100 sabre so I am going to tear into the rear wheel next.

      It’s hard to pin point the life of a rubber o-ring. The pressure of the cupller causes it to flatten out. They a only a couple bucks. I would swap them out every two rear tires? Of course should be lubed every tire service

      TheMotorcycleMD oh I was taking about the triangle shaped rubber piece. The ones you said absorb the shock of the coupler.

      Peter G ah! I see! Yes actually I have seen some bikes with all of the rubber complexity gone. Customer had no idea. Heavily worn coupler and splines along with it.

    Shit the VTX 1800 is a torque monster. I do not get more than 10,000 miles out of my car tires. Drive it like you stole it and do your own damn maintenance. The absolute biggest mistake a person can make is taking a bike in to a stealer / dealer. They do not give two shits about you or your bike. If you as a rider do not take the time to learn and maintain your bike on your own YOU SHOULD NOT OWN THE BIKE; sell it and get the hell off the road cager.
