    STORYLINE:
President Bush led the United States in mourning Pope John Paul II on Saturday, saying the Pontiff's quarter century as head of the Roman Catholic Church and his lifetime of dedication to freedom and values made him a "hero for the ages."
"The Catholic Church has lost its shepherd. The world has lost a champion of human freedom," the president said in a brief televised statement from the White House.
Both he and first lady Laura Bush, who stood at his side, wore black suits and sombre expressions. "A good and faithful servant has been called home," the president said.
Shortly after his remarks at the White House, the president went by motorcade to St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington for a memorial mass.
Bush was expected to travel to Rome for the funeral, but the White House held off making an official announcement of the delegation it would send out of respect for protocol. A White House press secretary said Bush aides expected to hear about funeral arrangements from the Vatican on Sunday and said it would be inappropriate to discuss the president's plans before then.
The president immediately ordered that US flags on all federal government buildings be flown at half-mast until the pope is buried.
Bush articulated the grief felt by the nation's 67 (m) million Catholics as well as the many outside the faith who revered the man for his long service to the church and the poor.
"We will always remember the humble, wise and fearless priest who became one of history's great moral leaders," he said. "We're grateful to God for sending such a man, a son of Poland who became the Bishop of Rome and hero for the ages," the president said.
Meanwhile in Washington's Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, officials lowered a drape and rang church bells for Pope John Paul II.

And most importantly: not containing one word of truth. Like both of their bogus presidencies.

I couldn’t stand Bush but I have to admit this is the only speech he made that I liked. He was a huge admirer of Pope John Paul II and he seemed very emotional 😭 when he made the statement .

0:25 - He should have said - "the world has lost a man who covered up for thousands of his own clergy who abused scores of boys and girls for decades. The world has lost a man he made sure the protection of his fellow cardinals, bishops, priests, nuns and monks were top priority over the victims. The world has lost a man who a celibate lectured married couples on using contraception. The world has lost a man who denied the use of contraception in Aids wrecked countries of the world" - Just a few realities of JP2 we must remember and NEVER FORGET!

As I see you have tendency to concentrate on bad things only. Of course pedophilia is big problem for church... but they just started purify themselves from that shit... this also should be appreciated.
And that was problem which started very long before John Paul II, so accusing him about this is not fair. He was not "generator" or hiding of that state. Just lived in times when hidden sins of some clergy swollen to be cut. So was made by Pope Benedict and now Francis. They rip them off....
      So be of good hope...

@@jsz173 Tell me, who helped Cardinal Bernard Law evade the Boston police? Who gave Cardinal Bernard Law shelter in the Vatican and allowed him to continue his ministry? Pope John Paul II. If you do not know who Cardinal Bernard Law is, Google it, and then come back to me, telling me what a great man JP2 was, sheltering a paedophile protector from justice.

@@johnking5174 - uuuuhhhhhh.... some puritan here.....
but as I know Bernard Law not was pedophile himself, he just hide pedophile cases of some priests... sad, but this are so called corporate practices... protestants or freemasonry do this same for their members, and even more.
besides very often media make judgement before full recognized case.... so, par example, now Francis don't accepted resignation of cardinal Philippe Barbarin, who was accused in this same way, and in fact was innocent. Maybe John Paul II wanted give to Bernard, time. And what really was exposed, was exposed after death of pope... so don't be so hasty in judgement, because how you judge, you will be judged..... and you are perfectly sure that with your limited knowledge and mind in this world, that you can be "master of justice"? Or you just hate Catholics?
