One of the best jazz bands ever, tradition and innovation perfectly mixed together. Saw them live in 2000, at Nice Jazz Festival, a delightful concert, Mike made me weep like a baby with a single, long note during a slow ballad, I'll never forget it. 💖
Definitely a traditional jazz blues walk standard well executed with clean and crisp world known techniques Lou Donaldson and Jimmy Smith ..... BLUES WALK Jimmy, Lou and Wes would be proud of the sound they created What gives that step ahead is the melody Great Musicians. RIP MR BRECKER THE WORLD OF MUSIC MISSES U.
So great! That album, Time is of the Essence, is where I discovered Larry Goldings... which lead to Bill Stewart and all their friends. Holy crap what a great bunch of artists! Pat and Michael are the real deal, and the whole thing just rocks!
Time of the Essence is an awesome recording. This is where I discovered Larry Goldings! I'm so glad this is on UA-cam! This is completely off the hook, smoking tight and cool, but burning up. So happy...
I’ve listened to this song from the album and the album version is no where near this live version Larrys organ is wicked live and Pat is killing it The drummer is right there.Hard Bop props Mike doesn’t play to much but gets he gets his point across.
It's a Pat Metheny tune that appears on Michael Brecker's Time is of the Essence album. Mike Brecker on tenor sax, Pat Metheny on guitar, Larry Goldings on Hammond B3 and Bill Stewart on drums
havent seen this in over 15 years. mind blowing concert.. i also remember half past late and extradition and what do you want. hope to find the rest. thanks for uploading
One of my favorite jazz tunes. I love the melody at the head. Michael was just a monster player RIP. Elvin Jones drummed to this tune on the album but Bill puts his own flavor to it here. Freakin' great music. Doesn't get much better.
Awesome composition and mindblowing concert. I saw them in Hamburg a couple of days earlier and I still sing this tune at least once a day :-). I was wondering during the concert: Who played the bass? Is that Larry Goldings' feet on the basspedal? Sounds different than typical B3 basses. Does anyone here know about the band gear and setup at that time?
I've counted through the drum solo a few times now and it never comes out to a 12-bar form, it's always off by a couple beats. Is it me? They're amazing and I need to get better but this makes me feel better for "losing the one" on occasion.
@@charlie_painter hi. Yes. But those 12 bar solo cycles are not in the “tune” as such. The tune/melody is made up of 8 bar cycles, and they decided to solo over a 12 bar blues. Except for the drum/sax ending where they go back to the melody.
@@charlie_painter apologies though..... I was referring to the solo at the end of the tune. I see there is a short solo over two choruses of blues. Its spot on though.
Disagree about that out of sync. Had sometimes struggles with such surprising and hard to handle aspects but am quite sure this one is alright. Try another source or soft and hardware to playback.
Hans Groiner on B-3- awesome playing!!!
I’m probably on my 2000th listen of this Metheny classic and it has never sounded better than with this group. Unbelievable stuff.
These 4 cats were one of greatest bands ever assembled.
Michael's total burnout solo on the final tag section was simply brilliant!! One of the greatest of all jazz ensembles!
So so good. All four cats at the top of their game; Bill Stewart's groove is just thick.

Agreed. Getting 3 of my drumming heros on one record along with this band was amazing. Such a treat.

Great Michael
Hans Groiner!
LOL!! It's just Larry Goldings yet full of hair. What an impostor!
Ah yes, I see you are a man of culture too. Hans Groiner's lessons have helped me to become a better jass musician.
Me too!

Oh ,sorry ,I found the composer ,M,Brecker . Great song!
Pat Metheny is the composer...
Wonderful!
Dear Mr. Reet, please credit the musicians.
Is there any more footage from this gig???
That looks like Edgar Winter off stage clapping at the end.
Bill is a monster!!!
i like how the drums solo corresponds to lead melody rythm :)
That vamp at the end of the tune has
"yeah man" 5:10, Metheny Appreciates
Beautiful
breaker il piu' grande di tuttiiiiiiiiii❤❤❤❤❤❤
that's a hip head

The solo is over an 8 bar vamp, not 12.
@@kevingibson4816 I counted 12 bars for the guitar and keys solo

@@kevingibson4816 I need to improve at counting, I counted the Drum solo as two "choruses" like 12 bars plus 11 bars or something weird.

was that Steve Lukather at the end?
+Christian Wagenseih: Pat Metheny ;-)
no...in the audience!
in the audience I mean..the black haired guy applauding
+Christian Wagenseil .........I think your are correct. It looked like Steve Lukather to me also.
Who wrote this jazz tune ?
Pat Metheny
Oh. Is my face red after I read. Nevermind,
-Elmer Litella
yeahhh!
absolutely ridiculous
nice
The video and audio are out of sync… gives a kind of cool, random effect…

Music simply.
