Worst dish/food experience on Thanksgiving?
My parents had a HUGE fight and the both stormed off into different rooms and didn’t come out until around midnight. Meanwhile, we all was scared to touch the food or ask either of them if we could eat so we starved till they came back down stairs.😩
This would be my grandma and my vegan behind. I'll just end up sulking while she takes over.
Going to my aunt (married in) and uncle house mixed the families and she let her family be in charged of the food. Let's just say the dressing was dark as dirt I don't know what they call themselves making😭
Somebody cooked chitlins one year….but didn’t clean ‘em good!🤢
My family does a potluck, my cousins mom brought macaroni and cheese. It was so pretty and yellow and cheesy. MY mama gets a big spoonful and it was SWEET 😂😂😂 She put sugar in her Mac and cheese y'all!!!! 🤢

As we speak, I’m in the middle of a generational kitchen fight!! My great aunt put my momma’s turkey in the oven with no seasoning or not my momma’s seasoning and permission. My mom just went back to the store to get a whole other turkey. It’s serious around here y’all!!

This is too funny. My gma did my mom like this a couple of years back. My mom commented that her dressing was thick when she was trying to mix her ingredients. My gma, without looking at my mom, said did you put chicken broth in it. She hadn't. That's still 💯 one of our funniest holiday moments.
I pretty much use chicken broth in everything that calls for water in a savory dish. Even mashed potatoes to boil the potatoes.

My mom passed 6 years back when I was in my twenties, she always tried to teach me to cook like her. I regret it now but I am teaching myself. I hope she's proud.

My brother has a vegan girlfriend and she came over for Thanksgiving. I asked my husband not to use meat in the vegetables (he did most of the cooking) and he said "she eats what we eat or she brings her own". I made some veggies just for her so she wouldn't feel left out; but, by the end of the day she was eating everything except the ham.

One thanksgiving I cooked a huge meal for like 10 people. I start at like five am thinking people were gonna jump in and help. My mom comes in about ten and say “I would help you but my hands are dirty.” She sat in the kitchen, watched me cook that whole meal and saying every once in a while “I sho’ would help you, but my hands are dirty.” Everyone else showed up at 2. They ate. I took a nap.

Sadly the old school relatives like this are almost no more. I wish I would’ve listened to my mom every time she tried to show me how to throw down in the kitchen when I was coming up; that wisdom is priceless. Now I’m in my 30s and live off of takeout and turkey sandwiches 🤦🏽♀️ A damn shame!
Sorry for your loss,but girl just do like I do when I want to try something "new". Go on UA-cam, however the dish look in the picture I say that's how I want mine to look. I just follow that recipe. I cooked Thanksgiving dinner last year all by UA-cam videos.

My mother, God Rest Her Soul, was a patient teacher, but my sister-she is the sweetest person normally, but she has to have some things done her way. I usually close my eyes, take a deep breath and let her do it. Except for my dressing-I will fight anybody over my cornbread dressing! 😤

I've always thought the same, that it's just for presentation. THEN I discovered smoked paprika, and Hungarian hot paprika and more. I still use the "red dust" just for color though.

@@nadriafrazier6905 You are so right about the smoked paprika. As for the hot, believe it or not I found both of them at TJ Maxx/Marshalls. I'll bet Trader Joes would have it at a decent price, or if you live near a Penzeys they have smaller sizes if you don't want to buy a big amount the first time out.
