Erickson S-64 Arrives at HELI-EXPO® 2010

The behemoth heavy-lifter lands in the parking lot of the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas for HELI-EXPO, the annual trade show of the international helicopter industry.
It is "slightly breezy", when this 20,000 lb. helicopter arrests its descent right in front of you. Downwash from the blades produces powerful gusts of wind that don't always agree with sensitive audio equipment or human balance (ergo the snapping peaks in audio and shaking camera during the final stage of landing).
After touchdown we see the cool-down period and shutdown of the main engines. Enjoy!

Thanks for checking out our videos! There is a fly-in every year for HELI-EXPO. Next HELI-EXPO is in Orlando, FL March 3-5, 2011. I am not sure we have any cockpit video footage in the Erickson. If we do, I will get them posted.

That particular S-64 belongs to San Diego Gas & Electric as per its logos and paint job, not Erickson Incorporated..

Erickson is actually the manufacturer, they bought the production certificate from Sikorsky and they built this one (they often don't start from scratch as far as I know but rather rehab, upgrade and modify older CH-54s). They did indeed sell this one to SDG&E and bought it back from them not too long ago, so the Sun Bird currently wears a green and orange paint scheme.
