- Embattled Uvalde school district police chief Pete Arredondo has been fired after outcry over the handling of the Robb Elementary mass shooting. Arredondo had been on administrative leave after the massacre that left 19 children and two teachers dead. An attorney for Arredondo said he and other responding officers “should be celebrated for the lives saved, instead of vilified for those they couldn’t reach.”

This is a man with no sense of honor or integrity. If I'd screwed up that bad I'd have quit. What a real piece of work.
It blows my mind that he's fighting to get his job back. Maybe the type of person he is is the reason why he behaved the way he did. No honor, no shame... just an insect.
💯 I'd be embarrassed and ashamed just to have him in my family. Then again my family has produced 2 Fire Fighters, 1 Msgt USAF, 2 Marines, and 1 Sailor that all rushed to the danger, most came back. Some families are just different I spose.

They don't care about the crime. They care about the attention. Most would never quit for any reason. They are all about their bank account. That one, above, is a millionaire, in a small town with poor people all around! I wish a local reporter would break the news about the payroll embezzlement/stay at home crime going on.
It took a while, back in the day, people would accept their responsibility and resign. Now, you have to force them out, because they don't have the moral fiber to accept their responsibility.

If you don't like the high risk please don't be a cop. It can save plenty of people. We want the officers to have the same courage as when they stop you for a speed ticket aswell as when they need to stop a criminal with a gun. Not just to pick up a pay check, being in the car, being in the office all day, and eating doughnuts with coffee.
Cops need to have that same mentality as firefighters do. Run toward the danger not away from it.

I have read that over and over since 1987 everytime I have gone into my local police headquarters.

There are so many more there that need to answer to their authorities, like Pedro's chief for not ordering Pedro and team to act, the school principal for a lousy job, and other school authorities.

About time, this has happened several times at other schools where the LE was told not to go inside. This is nothing new the actions of LE.

We're going after one person when we need to go after the law. As it stands SCOTUS says no officer is required to save any particular citizen. Children included.

Nobody violated his "due process".. his staggering incompetence was recorded on video for everyone to see...
If I failed to do my job and even one person died because of it, then I would expect to be fired on the spot. and if I wasn't fired then I would resign in shame.
That being said however, he was not the only incompetent person in that terrible saga so due process needs to continue so that others can also be held accountable.
He's definitely not the only incompetent public official that was on the scene that day, but he's a civil servant who answers to an elected school board.
They could easily make the argument that it was in the public interest to fire him.
That would have eventually happened once the civil lawsuits determine how much of the liability for damages the school will be responsible for.

Arredondo couldn't even admit his decision at the time is unpopular and divisive, let along wrong. He could not even walk away from that position so the community could heal.

Why was this even a debate to being with? That should have been immediate, and the whole police department needs to go with him. Civilians have been showing more bravery than these officers. Civilians going through burning buildings to save lives despite not being properly equipt not being their job ( the cops that let the black man bleed out after a stabbing), just doing the right thing. Those kids didn't get due process when HE sentenced them to death at the hands of a madman, and who knows how many could've/would've been saved if he let them go in sooner! Unacceptable behavior on the Chief's part, disappointing it took so long for action to be taken.
They didn't "engage the shooter for 77 minutes" They stood and did nothing for 77 minutes hearing the screams of children.
I actually want to know exactly how many could have been saved in that 77 minutes and to see these officers being held responsible for those lost after contact with the shooter.

After the shooting, he became a city councilman. I think that's what he was fired from, but how he even got that job after this failure is beyond comprehension.

I'm an at-will employee. I can be let go for pretty much any reason or no reason at all. This guy seems to think his job is a right that he has and deserves some sort of Constitutional due process to keep it. That's not how it works. There's no right to a job in the Constitution.
