- Three months after the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, Uvalde’s school board fired the district’s police chief Pete Arredondo. NBC’s Priscilla Thompson, who attended the meeting, tells MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell about the tension as the meeting started with calls for transparency and how the families reacted to finally seeing some accountability.

@@DannyD-lr5yg yes. Precisely. No valid excuse. Stupid or willfully ignored the crime in progress.
Traiing? Hahaha.
Sadly, as a retired attorney I believe Arrandondo will win when he takes his case to court because as a public employee he must be allowed an administrative hearing. It appears that that didn't happen. The school board should have consulted with an attorney. Arrandondo knows he will never get another job again. He's just trying to amass as much money as he can before the spigot gets turned off forever. Sadly, on that point he may win. If he had any respect or shame, he would quietly walk away. He doesn't even have that much honor. A cop through and through, he totally believes he can do no wrong.
@@rabbit251 they consulted the attorney when they went closed door before coming back with the decision
@@chrish564 Do you know that for a fact? If they did, then their attorney should be fired. Anyone who has studied admin law knows that you must allow a hearing for the respondent before you can fire them. I despise Arrandondo, but I have to agree with his attorneys and believe in the end he will get a settlement on his back pay. The Board probably agreed to fire him at this meeting simply because they feared of getting lynched if they didn't. Either way, it was poorly managed.
There's a whole group of cops that should be fired. I don't know how they sleep at night.
Seriously! I guess the diffusion of responsibility is a powerful drug. “Just following orders” type stuff..

There was no obstruction in the legal sense. That they lied to the public did not stop them from solving a crime. That's what obstruction is: interfering with the investigation of a crime. Now, if one the cops lied to someone investigating how the police handled the response, that might be obstruction. Nothing the mayor the school board has done could ever be construed as obstruction.

Your point may be technically true, but for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction and this video documents that equal and opposite reaction. The community has every right to get rid of those who claim to “protect and serve” and then fail to do so out of cowardice. So , while the Supreme Court may have given police the right to not endanger their own lives, the Supreme Court did not take away the public’s right to fire police personnel who exercise that right of self-protection over the job’s responsibility to protect the public. The Supreme Court’s ruling only insulates police from being sued or charged with a crime for failing to protect; the SCOTUS ruling doesn’t protect the jobs of coward police.
@@dorothygale1104 mmm.
Pt to Dorothy. :)
@@dorothygale1104 your both right,I think Vincent's point was to motivate people to act .
One day Sime1 will End up Knocking U off ur Soap Box. Meanwhile there's alot of people Grieving for they're family members that Died as a result of the inaction of the Chief of Police? I'm Glad they Got Rid of Him. Especially Since the Classroom Door Wasn't Even LOCKED!!!!
How did he become a law enforcement in the first place? What an embarrassment! Should jail him too.
He had the look . Bald head and a black uniform .
From a european perspective, and beyond the firing itself, it seems alien to me that a police officer is employed by a school board. Here, the police is a public service, and has to serve everyone. It shows how twisted this entire pro-gun stance is, when schools have to actually pay for a public servant to protect them. Like a mercenary.
Try living beside them! (From Canada)
Police officers LOOOOOOOOOOVE the phrase "Consequences for your Actions" ...... Thats all I'm going to say about that.
My heart really bleeds for the families of the murdered people being treated in such an arrogant, heartless manner by a school board of cowards and of emotionless lawyers and government officials.
Don't forget the Mayor and some council members .
That's so true, I am so surprised.
Not enough time or effort is spent commending Pete Arredondo for not taking his own life after his devastating display of cowardice and incompetence. If I was responsible for the deaths of 19 children I don't know how I'd be able to live with myself, much less stubbornly insist in an administrative role over the community I'd personally abandoned in their greatest time of need. He's a genuine champion of police everywhere.
that calls justice! it shouldn't have taking this long but it was the right call . now all coward cops on side that terrible day should be next!
There has still been no explanation as to what the heck happened at Uvalde that day and why things played out the way they did. A screw-up this big isn't just an "oh well, things didn't quite line up right but it was really no one's fault" kind of situation. Bring on the revelations. No more coverup. Bring on the accountability. Employment terminations might not be enough to serve justice.
DOJ is conducting an in-depth response review. Unfortunately we will need to have patience. Think of it like a NTSB investigation, long drawn out, but in the end very detailed. I doubt they are going to be kind to DPS for the misinformation. Probably criticize the first group of Border Patrol and the acting city chief for not confronting the school chief, but instead taking his word.
@@nomenclature9373 Btw, l like your screen name. Very nice. 👍
It went the wsy it did? Because Pete was told if it happened to just back off. Politicians used Uvalde to pass laws abt mental illness + guns. To cement into ppl's minds to dislike ppl w a SMI... so they can seize our guns ;)
To keep their cowardly butts safe ;)
@@mugwump242 Thank you
In any other location Pete Arredondo would have been fired THREE months ago. Gross incompetence by law enforcement officers don't deserve such kid-gloves treatment.
Without real charges, he's just going to get hired at another police department when we all forget.
He can be stripped of his state peace officer certification.
I wld imagine that will be a part of their lawsuit, that he was left state certified.
Ask lawyer to start writing letter to. Certif group ;)
You are dead wrong. This former chief won’t be able to so much as get a job as a night-time warehouse security guard because nobody will want to take the heat for hiring him.
@@dorothygale1104 But police departments do that all the time with officers who have committed heinous shootings or other crimes while wearing the badge. I'm not berating anyone, this is just what happens.
@@brianoldridge6703 Yes, police departments protect thug police officers. But juries do worse when those thug officers are put on trial when those juries vote to acquit, especially when the victims are not white.
@@dorothygale1104 I just wish it was different. Feels like we're just being appeased and looked down upon by the very people we've elected and even those we give our tax money to for services. If people really wanted to make America great again, they'd start there. Not with xenophobia and white supremacy rhetoric mirroring what the old grandmasters used to say.
400 cops chatted for one hour.
Should defund them too!
This police chef must have had alot of power...three months to get fired!!! I must say that's quite impressive for a complete incompetent coward wearing a badge.
It's absolutely vile that it's taken *This* long just to fire him! Getting fired ought to be the least of his problems right now! Hold the incompetent coward accountable!
What I find pathetic is that these same outraged parents will reelect Abbott in November
@Ellie G
I hope you are correct about this situation.
Perhaps this can extend to the voting box to get rid of the grossly incompetent governor, Abbott.
Abbit, too?
You betcha.
(Thatll make his blood run cold)
The statement speaks for itself. He did everything that he could.... And that was nothing. He should not be given the chance to do nothing again.
I can't believe it took this long.Condolences to the families involved.
Uvalde parents shouting "we're not done". Are they talking about Arredondo and Abbott? Two peas in a pot? Pee's in a toilet? Pass in a ...
A disgrace that it took a 37 million dollar lawsuit -to enforce the firing of pete arredondo.
Hang in there, Uvalde people. Its not a swift or an easy path you're walking. You all have our support. I was heartened to see that you have a lawyer. We're watching.... hang in there. Peace
Not an AR 15 in sight when one is needed .

The law enforcement officers at Uvalde are the shining example of the greatest cowards I have ever witnessed in my lifetime.
Fire?!?!?!
How about a charge resembling mortal incompetence?!
