Sadly, as a retired attorney I believe Arrandondo will win when he takes his case to court because as a public employee he must be allowed an administrative hearing. It appears that that didn't happen. The school board should have consulted with an attorney. Arrandondo knows he will never get another job again. He's just trying to amass as much money as he can before the spigot gets turned off forever. Sadly, on that point he may win. If he had any respect or shame, he would quietly walk away. He doesn't even have that much honor. A cop through and through, he totally believes he can do no wrong.

The Board probably agreed to fire him at this meeting simply because they feared of getting lynched if they didn't. Either way, it was poorly managed.

Your point may be technically true, but for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction and this video documents that equal and opposite reaction. The community has every right to get rid of those who claim to “protect and serve” and then fail to do so out of cowardice. So , while the Supreme Court may have given police the right to not endanger their own lives, the Supreme Court did not take away the public’s right to fire police personnel who exercise that right of self-protection over the job’s responsibility to protect the public. The Supreme Court’s ruling only insulates police from being sued or charged with a crime for failing to protect; the SCOTUS ruling doesn’t protect the jobs of coward police.

From a european perspective, and beyond the firing itself, it seems alien to me that a police officer is employed by a school board. Here, the police is a public service, and has to serve everyone. It shows how twisted this entire pro-gun stance is, when schools have to actually pay for a public servant to protect them. Like a mercenary.

Not enough time or effort is spent commending Pete Arredondo for not taking his own life after his devastating display of cowardice and incompetence. If I was responsible for the deaths of 19 children I don't know how I'd be able to live with myself, much less stubbornly insist in an administrative role over the community I'd personally abandoned in their greatest time of need. He's a genuine champion of police everywhere.

Bring on the accountability. Employment terminations might not be enough to serve justice.

I doubt they are going to be kind to DPS for the misinformation. Probably criticize the first group of Border Patrol and the acting city chief for not confronting the school chief, but instead taking his word.
