The second largest city in Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest cities in Europe and has a rich history going back over 1,000 years. Downtown Porto’s historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site and dates back to medieval times. Bordered by an arcaded walk that contains shops and restaurants built into the old city wall, the historic heart of the city is a maze of narrow stone alleyways. Porto’s city proper has a population of around 232,000 and the surrounding metro area has approximately 1.7 million people.
The São Bento Railway Station is resplendent with 20,000 Azulejo tiles composed by painter Jorge Colasso. The first tile in 1905 and the last in 1916. These beautiful hand-painted tiles reflect important events and people throughout Portugal’s history including battles, historical figures, royal weddings & pilgrimages. Beyond the stations beauty Sao Bento is still a working station and the gateway to other destinations around Portugal.
Carrying on across the Dom Luis bridge Gaia makes for a more laid back escape from Porto proper. Gaia is home to the famous Port wine caves. The caves of over 50 wine companies can be found in this area and many of them are open for tourists to visit. It’s worth taking the time to explore the back streets of Gaia getting away from the waterfront and strolling its historic streets and alleys where you will be rewarded with some old world charm and stunning views of Porto.
Igreja dos Clérigos or Church of the Clergyman is another impressive Baroque structure here in Porto. The church was completed in 1750. The impressive 246 ft tall bell tower with it’s stairway of 240 steps was completed in 1763. The Clérigos tower is not only beautiful, if you climb the 6 floors to the top, you are rewarded with an impressive view of the city.
The wine itself is not grown in Gaia or Porto, but the cooler climate near the coast provides the perfect climate for it to age. The barrels of wine were historically transported down the river from the vineyards in the Douro Valley. If you have to the time it is absolute must to spend a day or more in the Douro. Not only is the it stunningly beautiful, but you will learn the history and tradition of what makes the area perfect to grow Port grapes. The Douro River winds its way through the narrow valley that is lined with gorgeous vineyard and dotted with breathtaking villages.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Your video about my City, Porto, is the best one I saw ever! I was just dreaming with your fabulous text and voice, the first time I heard an angel voice, calm and clear. Well done. Return more times to extend the visit to Atlantic Front (Foz e Matosinhos) and to Serralves Park and Museum - authentic jewels of the Porto touristic crown! A hearted hug for you!
Thank you so much for your comment. We put a lot of work into this video and it was easy to make Porto look good 😊
Totally agree!
@@eacreal thank you so much
Wow !!!
I feel pride of my home town, but after watching your beautiful video my pride level rose...
Well done !
The vibrant colours and the sharp photography really shows what Porto really looks like.
One small but very important remark: you forgot to mention that what makes Porto really special are the locals. We are known to be the friendliest people in all Portugal. We are unique !
Hope you come back soon for more. You must see our beaches, Serralves, Ribeira, Livraria Lello, Casa da Música...so many poi's you forgot to visit.
thanks for the video. It may seem a small thing but it is so good to see the presenter who is not a young glamorous couple. I am not in that demographic so I'm well over the abundance of this age and presentation style. V popular I'm sure but they don't speak 'to' me.
Thank you for your comment, you young UA-camrs a certainty plentiful. We try our best to make videos that appeal to audiences looking for more history and information. Thanks for watching!
Love this video. I'm currently in Porto now and finding it very useful.
Thank you for the comment, so glad you are finding it useful. Have a great weekend😀
I love Portugal and Porto is my favorite city in Portugal. The Francesinha that you briefly mentioned deserves and has it own full videos.
Great video btw!.
Totally agree, but we rarely do food at all as so many people already do.
your photographer is amazing. Each frame was perfect and you are lucky to have him frame you in the most stunning ways. I am visiting Porto soon and hope to travel in several of your footsteps. Thanks and keep up the beautiful and artful guides.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. We take our time, don’t put out videos constantly but try to make them look as good as possible.

@@Farawaynow May I ask which area of town you stayed? Any recommendations of best neighborhoods?
We stayed close to Batalha Square which is very centrally located but not in the heart of the tourist area so the restaurants were more reasonably priced.

Thank you so much Jose. This is so much appreciated😃
Will be going there myself in September!
Hope you have a wonderful trip!
Beautiful way to descibe my birth place, thank you. Next time you come to Porto, don't forget to take the 52 bus going from Avenida dos Aliados ( city centre ) to Matosinhos, all along the river and the river mouth and the Atlantic coast. It is a must. See you sometime in Porto again 😍
Thank you so much, we did go to Matosinhos. We biked over and made a video of it as well. Thank you for watching and commenting.
nice video. I like your style. :)
Thank you 🙏
Damn, the batman music has an impact!
Holy Smoke, Batman!
I am loving your video!! Just arrived in Porto today and I am taking notes of all the things you mention that I want to visit. Taylor is first tomorrow. Thank you!
So glad you are finding it helpful, hope you have a great time.
How was the weather in May? We are going next May. Beautiful video.
We were there the end of April and the first week of May and it was a little cold and rainy when we first arrived but by the beginning of may it was warm and sunny.
Can you offer a link to the vendor you recommend for the Six Bridges Douro River Boat Tour Porto
Hi Danny, unfortunately I don’t know the name of boat we took. There are many boat companies on the riverside and they have kiosks selling tickets. Most have pictures of the boats and there are many different sizes of boats to choose from.
Great video! Is there a train that can take you from Lisbon to Porto?
Thank you for watching! There is definitely a train connecting Lisbon and Porto and most other places in Portugal but I haven’t taken it myself.
What place in our Porto video do you most want to visit?
👍🇵🇹❤️😃
LOL, Thanks for the comment! 👍
Hi! I'm planning to travel to Porto next month and after watching your video it seems amazing! A few questions though... Did you go on any guided tours (inside or outside the city centre)? do you need to book tickets in advance to see any of the places? AND how is the weather? :D
So the weather in June or July will be perfect. Warm and mostly dry. It is already really nice here now. We only did one tour and that was down to the Douro wine regions (we booked on Airbnb). You can get there with a rental care or the train too but we are glad we did the tour as we got to see a lot in a day and lots of good info. In the city it is very easy to do everything without a tour, but if you only have a short amount of time a city walking tour would be very helpful. We didn't book anything in advance. Thanks for your comment, I hope you have a great time in Porto!
@@Farawaynow Thanks for that! Can't wait to visit! We'll be there for 3 days :D
Faltou visiar a Casa de Serralves, a Casa da Música e a ida até à foz do Douro.
Thank you for the suggestions. We did visit the mouth of the Douro in this video: PORTO BIKE RENTAL GUIDE & TOUR!

Nice video, just a note: portuguese is not spanish.
Thanks
@2:17 Please no, dont pronounce azulejo like its spanish...
CRINGE >_
Thanks for watching. As we travel the world constantly always around new languages and pronunciations we do out best with pronunciation but certainly not always on point.
A " cidade" com mais pessoas a dormir na rua ! Com um bairrismo parolo! Podre! A cair aos bocados! Sem rumo! Irrelevante! PORTO ? NÃO OBRIGADO !
😆
So this means that you willfully spend your free time watching videos about places that you already know you don't like. That's just sad.
Deve viver num mundo parelelo. Percentualmente o Porto é a cidade Portuguesa que os turistas visitam mais.
A inveja é tramada...
Can you start a reportage without food?!!! Patients!!!
👌
