I gotta be honest dude, when I first started watching your channel I wasn’t giving it much hope. 2 months later and you won me over! Ur a pretty-kewl guy and quite resourceful and honest. That’s a hard thing to find. Your transparency on ur VW is what I appreciate. Remember, it’s not a car it’s a Volkswagen! lol. I love that u live in a cold climate like I do here in Washington. Love ur channel bud. Keep up the good work.
Dude yes I love the rundown. Here’s my waterboxer vanagon kit: Full cv Water pump Alternator Distributor Every hose Belt Ecu Every sensor A little of every fluid Spare tire Lengths of wire in different gauge Fuel pump Fuel filter Fuses Fuse box (2) ignition switches Master cylinder (old and leaking but could be used in a pinch) Zip ties Tow rope Set of headlights Bottle Jack Funnels Piss jug Weed Every tool Impact Tire plugs Fuel pump relays ICM Now I’m doing a subie swap and I don’t know what I need yet!
In my teens up to mid-30s, I used to work a lot on my vehicles. Today, I’m a bit older I tend to do less auto mechanics. But i still carry basic tools and parts in my Vanagon. The most important items I carry are extra winter coat, blankets, gloves, hat, hazard lights, and the AAA membership card.
I think there’s quite a few people in this comment section getting lost in the translation, if you don’t break down, you don’t learn how to handle the crisis! Anyone watching Sebastian’s video can learn about his crisis and make their own travels less chaotic! Just sayin
I always carry a fully charged 12v jump pack, 14 inch pipe wrench, no less then two high quality head lamps, shovel, bike tire pump, hatchet, multi meter for electrical checks, full roll of electric tape/duck tape, several two inch wide and two feet long strips of old inner tube that can be used to wrap around hoses to temp seal leaks- secure wrap with hose clamp after and it will hold even moderate pressures and high temps like radiator hose. The list can be almost endless but if you have some skills in mechanical repairs and good problem solving skills breakdowns are often solved in-house and down the road you go.
@@bugmeister404 when you use it just wrap it around what you wish to seal up with slight overlapping and stretch. Then at the final end you can secure with black electric tape or a hose clamp. Its totally waterproof, not effected by vibrations or heat expansion and actually can hold for a few years if needed. Also you can apply it to wet or dirty hope and pipe without problems. Tire shops will give you a free old tube you can cut into strips with scissors
These were the hip thing in have in Seattle in the late 90s-00’s. Saw them mostly in the VW repair shop frequented for my ‘67. Was warned not to get one by the mechanics. Love that you are at it with such a great attitude!
Lol, the timing tool at the ready in the back and not in the rooftop box. It’s fun to wrench on VWs. The turbo went out in my wife’s ALH Jetta wagon last week. I’m taking this opportunity to 3” straight pipe it, slightly upgrade the turbo, and swap the stock intake with BRM intake. Still need to get a tune to maximize efficiency and get rid of cel for deleting the EGR and ASV. 😂 I’m liking these everyday videos! I know it’s a lot of work on your part. I hope you’re seeing some growth from it!
if his two spare tires have ever been on the road no tire shop will install studs because the possible chance a small stone might be in one of the stud holes causing tire failure.
@@Sebastianstonum if your going to install studs yourself (and you can) just make sure they are the correct length for the tire thickness. Of course as you already know nothing beats a good set of chains.
An awesome video with your tools. I always carry a couple of cans of engine degreaser. Every time I clean my car I spray degreaser under my motor, axels etc.
I'm gearing out to live in my vehicle to save money for property in my favorite place to live. I enjoy my job and am lucky to be able to transfer. I am so grateful to find your channel. It's nice to watch someone who understands the journey it's really not a big deal it's just an adventure. I've done this several times in my long life for different reasons. I love the challenge and the freedom. Thank you!!!!
Best owner for your van...you carry a garage with you..l love the van. Had an old vw myself ..she was with me for years ..l only gave up on her when she got hit with a kangaroo really bad...she was taken to a private property where she still is..l was very attached to that beetle
You didn’t mention Alternator belt. I did over 5000 mile in my T25 this year. The only thing that broke was the belt. All my fault. It had a little squeak so I tightened it really tight. It broke a few miles down the road. I’ve learned that you should NOT tighten them really really tight, just enough!!
Something I learned about vanagon cv joints if you are breaking them which I assume you are because you’re carrying extra axles the reason is because you’re carrying too much weight. A factory built Westy is already nearly at the weight limit of the van. Add in all the stuff you’re carrying as well as those two spare tires and that is why your cv joints are failing. It took me replacing countless cv joints on the side of the road or in random places to figure that out. After I removed all the dead weight I was carrying I didn’t break a CV joint again. Looking at your load out you are way heavier than mine was. In my 1st Westy it was stock with a lift but I was carrying ton of stuff I didn't need as well as a folboat folding Kayak. I kept busting CV's over and over even with the stock 2.1 engine. I was staying in Denver so I got a storage unit unloaded everything but basic clothes and food. After I did that I never broke another CV joint. When I built my second van I turned a hard top into a Westy doing a roof swap. Because I didn't have a Westy interior I built my own. It was the exact same layout but I built it with very light material. I put an ecotec 2.4 engine which was 200lbs lighter than the stock 2.4. With the lighter interior and motor I easily shaved off 500lbs from the van. The 2nd van it was also lifted with 225/70/16's with a 200hp motor I didn't break a CV joint in 3 years owning it because I stopped carrying anything that wasn't a necessity. I did have a folding bike & a full size spare but they fit into my rear cabinet that I made for them. Also you don’t need to carry full axles, just remove the cv joints and carry those they are pretty easy to pull off the axles. I still have my 2nd van that I built but it needs a refresh.. but what I realized if you are driving a Westy you need to keep weight down. The bumpers spare carriers winches ect all look cool but they add too much weight. Also just for the record I never had wheel bearing failures that's likely also an over weight issue. Also what I realized, was that if I wanted to carry my toys like a real bike, the folding kayak ect, that I needed to use a full size van.. Like an E350 or something (I'd never do a sprinter). That's the trade off, you get to either be light and nimble with say a Vanagon or a Tacoma but you have to be more minimalist, or you can carry stuff but you have to have a full size and lose the easy drivability and nimbleness. Personally, I love the size of the vanagon, nothing really can match it, but the weight capacity is an issue that causes a lot of the problems. not trying to preach btw just saying what I learned living in mine for over 4 years.
Two sayings that I believe in It's better to have it, than to be looking for it! Parts at the Campground are expensive! My back closet is for parts, pretty much as you carry though I do have some duplicates in case friends need help. Love the BF Torque Wrench over my rear shelf for wheels and steering/brake components, all other tools live under my bench. I'd say you are prepared!
What ever you may say, I still love your van.. You got everything you need incase of emergency andy you got the skill to repair what ever troubles you may encounter regarding your van.. I love the setup including your bed most especially.. ❤️ Love it take care of it and I find your home very cute.
Will you please show me the "Sleeping Indian" one day? A friend of me, which passed away, showed it to me from the airport parking, and it was magic. Thanks
Coffee much?! 😅 A whirlwind of info! 😁 I've been restoring my Westy for 2 years now. I've saved every tool I've used so far in a toolbox in the van. Plus, any odds and ends used during upgrades
Great video. I just spent the entire summer (4½ months) tracking down and finally fixing my T1N Airstream Interstate Sprinter. You definitely need tools with an older Sprinter. It does have a bathroom which is very handy. I'm always checking out the VWs for sale
I swear by my power bank/jump starter it's a VTOMAN 4250A it's a power bank a compressor and a jump starter all in one. Use to carry jump leads but you need a donor vehicle which you cannot guarantee
Suggestions: Please give us a tour on your bed or sleeping place.., i find it interesting especially when you have a quick video every morning.. Probably your next video. Thank you Sebastian.. Take care ❤

Top idea on the inner tube. Have added it now to my spares list 👍

Old VW's can be unreliable vehicles, but damn, they are cool.
What ever you do, keep you job at the airport it great to have consistent income. Jackson Hole is so beautiful. Have a Merry Christmas 🎁❄️☃️🎄😊

The special tool that I bring on my Vanagon adventures is the AAA card

The things that go wrong on sprinters you can't fix haha. You just have to fork out the dough.
