Vinnie Colaiuta, besides playing in Jeff Beck's band with Tal W., drummed for Zappa for years. He's on those Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar albums.
Herbie got himself one hell of a rhythm section with Tal and Vinnie! Wow!
Love to see tal wilkenfeld and vinnie colaiuta from jeff beck band.
The drummer Vinnie Colauta played on Joe's garage and man from utopia and many more
I absolutely love this track from his epic 1974 Album Thrust. somewhat like Herbie's Cantaloupe Island, it has become a bit of a staple on his live performances.Great band, and interestingly, drummer Vinnie was the man behind the Zappa 'Shut up n play your guitar some more' track you where asking about. Both Zappa, Hancock and Miles Davis have been a great inspiration and influence to me as a keyboardist and as a music enthusiast. Surprised though this vid does not trigger the amount of comments some of your others do! (so far anyway). Keep up the good work 🙂
Thanks so much Remco!
I was gonna say that badass drummer is Vinnie Colaiuta who was next in line after Terry Bozzio in Zappas band. I think hes on all the tracks in shut up and play yer guitar
Wow...Herbie is a living legend, he's backed by some of the finest here.....Smokin! Thanks for another great reaction and choice guys.
Thanks for watching!
Now you are talking ...classy music with class A musicians....Herbie from Miles Davis days....and the great Vinnie Colauita who Frank Zappa bought to world attention and probably rated greatest drummer or no doubt top 10...and Tal has been arriving since she was a young girl....
Ah, I see you have the manual to the Zappa Universe. Read well, my friend. Just another great tune by the maestro. What couldn't he do? Here he puts his compositional skills to great use, instrumentation, pace, dynamics, all in fine form. I haven't listened to much Zappa lately. Listening now has only helped me realize just how much I miss the man, the genius. Zappateers, HOOOOoooo!!!
What a cool breeze from the past...
Musicianship at its HIGHEST level...if you are soloing on this tune, a MAJOR challenge is simply just St to figure out where "one" is, never mind trying to figure out what scales to use over these chords... Lol!
❤️☺️ what a great thing to come home to after a hard week at work. I'm in wonder at how they all know at what count they come in on particularly during the drum solo. I can't discern any obvious cue from Vinnie that screams NOW! The camera director loves Tal. Thanks for this reaction!
Great request Barton! Would be cool if someone requests Herbie's "Rock It" performance at the Grammys next.
We wonder too! ☺️thanks so much Bart!
@@Joe-Flow Go for it! I'll vote for it!
Tal was all of 24 years old here, and already a highly sought after seasoned veteran.
Herbie joined Miles aged 22! Tony Williams was 17!
Feel a little cooler having heard that.😆 The band was so tight but the feel was so loose. 💛💛💛
😆
My favorite solo you ask? Which ever one I am watching at any given moment. How about those guitar effects?
Check out Watermelon Man by Herbie if you have never heard it.
Thanks for the tip!
